More Josh Brown Drama

Danny Kanell : 8/26/2016 2:36 pm
Quote:
New York Giants kicker Josh Brown was reportedly cited for violating a restraining order two months after the initial arrest that led to his one-game suspension. The information was released by the Kings County (N.Y) prosecutor's office on Friday, according to SNY.

Brown was originally arrested for a domestic violence incident in May 2015. The New York Daily News reports that a protective order was placed five days later preventing Brown from coming within 500 feet of his then-wife's residence but that he violated that in July by driving by the house.

"I think he's been driving by, seeing like who's car is in the driveway, what I'm doing, if the babysitter's here or not," his then-wife told deputies at the time, according to the incident report. "He's not supposed to be doing that."

The info is coming from the prosecutor. The previous info came from a police report. While it may be a failed relationship, not looking like a money grab.

I'm starting to think they have been caught off guard and didn't really do all the due diligence they made it seem like they did.

Or maybe they knew all about this and Brown convinced them that he did the drive by because he was worried about the welfare of his children (total speculation).

100% agree...almost vomited the other day when I saw Melissa Mark-Viverito chime in and demanding the Giants cut Brown...I hope Mara and the Giants don't buckle to political pressure from left wing loons like Viverito...this of course is assuming Brown has no further incidents that could potentially embarrass the Giants...

I read the Daily News article on which all of this web hoopla is based and, if I'm reading it correctly, the only "evidence" of Brown driving by the house is his ex-wife's word. I obviously don't know the facts but on the face of the reports and knowing how bitter marital disputes can get, I'd argue that we don't know that he violated the order of protection.

at the slant that the Giants should cut him because he's "just a kicker" and replaceable.

Make the decision based on the evidence and the investigation, whether it is a kicker or the star QB.

And a common sentiment that keeps getting brought up is that if he wasn't a Giant, we'd be calling him all sorts of names. And yet, you don't see a lot of giant fans going after Elliott, and you rarely hear about Dez Bryant assaulting his Mother. Does anyone think Ochocinco's legacy is tarnished?

About the only people BBI has gone after is Greg Hardy and Ray Rice.

It is a pretty weak strawman argument.

The only thing I'm confident of is that whatever decision is made on Brown, it will come down to the facts and the investigation.

Bending over backwards? So, anything less than capital punishment, especially when all the facts are not in and much of those that are in are in dispute, means you're an apologist? Do you take the extreme for all alleged crimes?

I disagree - fair or not, players pay close attention to punishments/violations of fellow players...and SOME also view these punishments through a race lens. when brady had his deflategate suspension reversed, there were a lot of players who felt this was white privilege in action. some giants players may see that brown keeping his job in light of all these incidents is also another example of white privilege. and though i don't necessarily agree with that view, it could be the perception.

It's a distraction in the eyes of BBI.

Plus I think the team would support the front office in it's defense of a team mate. In fact they may not appreciate a player getting cut because BBI thinks he is a distraction. I give the Mara credit for that.

Wait so he lived in a house for some time but since he got a restraining order he is not allow to operate a motor vehicle on the same block? What if he had a destination on the next block? Doctor appointment? Is that something Goggle Maps can do for you?

"Hey Goggle. My wife put a restraining order on me. So how can I go to my appointment on the next two blocks without violating my restraining order?"

"Your destination is up ahead. I don't know!"

Yes, if you have a restraining order you can not drive by the house.

Why is that hard to understand?

I'm not defending JB nor am I bending over backwards. I will just say this one more time. We do not know the full story. We have one confirmed incident that resulted in a one game suspension and a lot of accusations by the ex-wife that, as far as I know, have not been corroborated by any other evidence.

I'm not saying he is innocent but put down the torches and pitchforks until the full story is known.

Whether he is guilty or not, kickers are very replaceable. Why carry him on the roster when we're going to be continually inundated with questions about him? It's an unnecessary distraction that we should have moved on from.

It's a distraction in the eyes of BBI.

Plus I think the team would support the front office in it's defense of a team mate. In fact they may not appreciate a player getting cut because BBI thinks he is a distraction. I give the Mara credit for that.

It's a distraction, because the team gets asked about it every day. McAdoo clearly says he is not further discussing the matter, and he gets asked 8 different ways about the guy. What's hilarious is that resident geniuses here thought Eli Apple's mom would be a bigger distraction. approaching Miko Grimes levels.

FatMan in Charlotte : 3:45 pm : link : reply
at the slant that the Giants should cut him because he's "just a kicker" and replaceable.

This is getting old not one man woman or Child knows
all the facts . I believe that the Team did the right
thing and the NFL handed down its decision .Dael With It !

By that logic Victor Cruz should be cut. Everyday people ask questions about him. And JPP should have been told to bugger off in September last year.

Questions are part of McAdoo's and the players jobs. The only distractions that hurt a team are those that affect the locker room. And I don't see that in this case.
Yeah, but JPP and Cruz are harder to replace at premium positions
David in LA : 8/26/2016 5:10 pm : link
and the team is going to be much more patient with them, because of what they have done for the team, and what they could potentially bring to the table. You're more likely to find someone closer to a Josh Brown available on the street (and we did with Bullock), than you are to find someone remotely close to being able to be a suitable replacement for JPP or Cruz.

True. But I tend to respect an organization that tries to treats players the same regardless of expediency. I believe it is called integrity.

I'd not cut him because there are still too many unknowns and based on what is known, I think the punishment is proportionate. But, if you're punishing out of your own value system, then I think his expendability is not relevant. You should try a kicker or Eli the same for the same offense. Otherwise, it's your ethics that are in question more so than Josh's.
