And they still probably ended up with at least the 3rd best QB from the draft..
I'd feel better right now if they had gotten Wentz or Goff. Prescott has really flashed in pre-season. Who knows about any of these guys but draft order means zero at this point.
Don't think any of the rookies this year are capable of playing competently week 1 of their first years. Goff, wentz and Prescott aren't exactly Winston, mariota or luck.
Maybe, maybe not..Romo went undrafted..Brady 6th round..Prescott's performance to date means squat to me....as I said, if they have him manage the game along with the adrenalin that opening day and being at home produces, they can beat anyone..It's just one game..
On here? I'm betting the farm that a win against the 'Boys won't mean anything to a bunch on here because, "whoop de doo, we beat the Cowboys without Romo."
If we lose it will be, "we can't even beat them WITHOUT Romo..
Well what should be the reaction? Week 1 is a gimme. It's a game we should win even if romo played. I hate to put expectations like that on the team but it's been 5 years since making the playoffs and while the optimist in me thinks Eli can play a solid 4 more years, he could realistically fall off in any random season. The Giants stop shooting themselves in the foot in divisional games and they are a playoff team
Sucks for Romo and I think Jerry has had enough after this..
You know he's steaming right now, how many seasons has romo gone down for considerable time in the last few years? Not sure exactly but it seems like 4/5 years he has missed a signicant chunk of the season.

He missed 2 games the 4 years prior to last season. But it does seem like this back thing is recurring now. He also didn't play particularly well last season, either.
thanks for the memories. You had bad luck. Crazy misplays in the early going. Overthrew players in the clutch. At times showed devastating talent against the Giants. In mid career, began to show as fragile and injury prone. But you also have shown remarkable grit, even crazy courage at times. Just remember its only a game, and a very violent one at that. Forget 6-10 weeks, we will remember and admire you for your talent, grit and leadership. Real Cowboys know when to ride off into the sunset. Cows, you knew the risks and should have seen this coming. Don't expect, as many here on BBI do, that your deferred, later round, QB pick, will turn into the new Tom Brady.
Romo is a warrior. I always respected him and I think
he showed respect to Eli and the Giants. This changes things only a little. If Romo had played, the game would have been close, he would have gotten hurt, and then Prescott would have come in and destroyed us. Now, Prescott will start the game, and we will be annihilated from the opening kickoff. Prescott will continue to torment us for years.........Sigh.

Well said, much respect for him. He was a fantastic, gritty, exciting player. Hopefully this is the end for him and if it is congrats, great career.

As for Dak, color me not impressed. Highlights of all his week 3 throws against the Hawks. Dak - ( New Window )
That was the first I've seen of him and I thought it was very impressive for a rookie. He seemed composed, went through multiple reads, through the ball away/out of reach as needed and made some accurate throws.
Obviously way early.

80% of his pass completions were on dinks, dunks and check downs. The TD to Witten should have been picked on an under throw and he did not throw a clean ball on target beyond 20 yards down the field.
Also watch him throw mostly off his back foot while setting in the pocket. I don;t see it, the Boys are going to miss Romo.

Yeah of course they'll miss a top ten QB. Very few rookies are top ten. That said, for a rookie, he looked pretty good to me.
Checking down to an open underneath guy shouldn;t be a negative.
requires the WR to contort his body and make an adjustment for it. He's not someone that looks like he can thread a needle and hit a guy in stride right now.

He did not complete a clean throw beyond 20 yards including the TD to Witten. Plus he throws off his back foot while setting in the pocket.
He's a rookie and Dallas will have to water down the playbook significantly.
Snacks will be the key to the game trying to disrupt the Boys running game.
if Dak plays well, Romo won't see the field again. If Dak goes 2-5 in his first 7 games, then they will try to stick Romo back out there. My hope is that Spags throws the kitchen sink at him and confuses Dak to make mistakes. The Cowboys will try to keep it easy on him, and run the ball. If the Giants can jump out to a lead and force Dak to throw it, he's going to screw up.
I thought he's been sharp in the preseason. That said, it's preseason. Spags is going to through a lot of different looks at him and I expect him to struggle a bit.
As far as rookie QBs, to me, the difference between he and Goff/Wentz is that he played a ton of college football. 3 year starter (or close to it, IIRC).
I have lots of thoughts on this - Enquiring minds want to know.
1) Romo should consider retiring. His back is all messed up, and even a minimal twist like this broke a bone.
2) Great QB's like Peyton, Elway, Marino, Farve, Eli, and Big Ben, have struggles as rookies. Just because Dak showed well in preseason doesn't mean all that much. Lets see what happens when the bullets start flying. When our starters are in there, when we are disguising coverages and bringing set packages, it will become very hard from him. If we stop their run we should have a good night.
3) What happens if Dak is doing well? Do they bring 34 yr old Romo back in or stick with the potential future?
"Last back tony Romo fracture was transverse process, not the actual vertebrae. This injury much more serious"
Ugg... I hate to tell a player to leave money on the table but this man has a family he has to think about. Really sucks. I make fun of Romo but I hate this for him to be in this situation where he can't make his own decision when to leave the game.
The scroll read Romo is "day to day". How is that possible?
from NFL.com:
Quote:
Garrett labeled Romo "day-to-day" and refused to give a timetable for his return, but NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported that the quarterback's "best-case scenario" is returning by "mid-season" after suffering a compression fracture of his vertebrae, per a source informed of the situation.
Rapoport noted that Romo "broke a different bone" than in 2014, when he suffered two fractures in his transverse process, and would "likely need an epidural to play." The hope is that Romo will return after the bye for his team's Week 8 showdown with the Eagles, with Garrett saying: "We're confident that he's going to be coming back and playing football for us this year."
Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones told the Dallas Morning News the team is open to possibly acquiring another quarterback, but added that Romo is intent on not seeing a repeat of 2015 play out.

I like Prescott a lot. I think this could be a plus for Dallas.
I think the "plus" for Dallas is that he'll have lots of practice with the first team and the game plan will be tailored for him. If he came in mid-game with a game plan designed for Romo, that would be worse for Dallas.
But he's still going to be a rookie in his first NFL game, and Spagnuolo is going to go out of his way to disguise things, confuse him, and generally force him into mistakes. Generall, also, I feel the Giants are a faster, more athletic team now and have better personnel to face a running QB. Or a passing QB, for that matter.

Likely outcome, Matt. The problem as I see it for those Giants fans who shrug and dismiss Prescott as a rookie, susceptible to confusion and mistakes, bowing to the pressure, etc. is that the team we root for has had poor success against mobile, run-capable quarterbacks. Even with the upgrades to the DL and DBs, our LBs remain our weakest unit and a mediocre unit and that is the position that mobile QBs are likely to expose.
He knows that he has the most talented offensive personnel of his career around him (defense another matter) and that two playoff wins will earn him no spot in the Hall of Fame.
I like Prescott a lot. I think this could be a plus for Dallas.
No way this is a plus for the Cowboys unless you're already thinking about 2017. The best thing you can say about it from the Cowboys perspective is that it's better that it happened in game 3 of the preseason than if it had happened on the first snap of the regular season.
Dak Prescott may very well develop into a starting quality QB in the NFL, but he won't be that on September 11, 2016. The chess match between Scott Linehan and Steve Spagnuolo will begin with Linehan already down a queen. No excuses for Spags if he squanders that edge! And I don't care how good the Dallas OL is.

Though I bet half those wins are against us.

Oh well, start the film review of Dak...
DRC, Jenkins, JPP and Vernon...go to work on him!
Romo takes a beating. You guys constant blowing the Cowboys o-line forget that they are not very good pass blockers.
He doesn't take a beating any more than anybody else, he just has been unfortunate with broken bones.
I don't blow their o-line.
They are good pass blocker.

One other thing to note against Seattle, watch how many free blitzers get through, I doubt he is excellent at setting the pass protection.

Bummer about Romo. I like that dude. Fluky injury, too. Split second before and he's tackled upright, split second after and he completes the slide.
Regardless, so long as Witten is a Cowboy, they're a tough W for the Giants. He probably circles those two games every season.
