Thought this deserved its own separate thread. He gest injured constantly and more recently it's his back. He really should want to walk one day. I respect the guy for being a great avisaary for us for the past 10 or so years, but I think it really is time.
The fact that he was a Cowboy will obviously inflate the general consensus but career wise he is much closer to Kerry Collins than Dan Marino.
He is a much better than Collins - his peer group is probably more like Carson Palmer, maybe even Jim Kelly (actually has better career stats, but not the playoff wins).
And I'm 100% guilty of it too, I've already been bagging on my Cowboy fan friends today. But have to respect the way he's always fought to come back from some serious injuries
I think Jerry will give him a shot to come back but if he can't do it then he needs to ride off and enjoy his family.
If his doctors say he's fragile/injury prone but isn't risking his quality of life after football then he probably doesn't need to consider retirement.

Underachiever???
Which round was he drafted in?!
This is why Romo will not be remembered by the league. Two playoff wins will not cut it. Maybe that is why Romo will want to continue his career for as long as he can still play well.
Fran Tarkenton was an excellent quarterback, who set the mold for the scrambling quarterback, but he played for two losing teams and has pretty much been forgotten.

Really? Nobody remembers Tarkenton? He is in the fucking hall of fame. I guess they forgot him AFTER he was voted in for being a bad QB?
Not a good analogy because hhe won in the playoffs
The Giants almost had a .500 record when Tarkenton was QB, which shows you had bad the Giants' defense was then.
Very fortunate for Tarkenton that he went back to the Vikes.
Still, you really don't hear that much about him.

I think he did Monday night Football for a few seasons and I remember him co hosting some TV show where people did amazing things but then I think he largely dedicated his time towards business. I remember reading a long time ago that he was pretty successful with some business he started. He has to be getting pretty old now. Probably mostly retired.

I didn't remember the trade of Tarkenton back to the Vikings and his great success there.

The show was "That's Incredible" and I remember watching as a kid. I knew him as that host before I knew him as a football player.

Maybe by you, but not by those who ever saw him play.....he played for an expansion team and the NY Giants.....the wins both those losing teams had were because of him....
going back to the Vikings and finally with a defense he was in 3 SB's......he definitely is not forgotten....for the time period he played, no qb comes close in td's and passing yardage...
The target date is week 7(after bye week) at Philadelphia on Sunday night.
I do remember having a bunch of guys over to my college room to watch the late game and seeing the Giants blown out by the Raiders, 45-0. You?
If he can come back healthy this year, it's in his interest to at least play out the season, especially if they are still in the mix for a playoff spot. I say this for two reasons: legacy and money.
Legacy because his in-season statistics are HoF-worthy but he needs to make more noise in the playoffs in order to be remembered as a great QB.
Money, because it could be that there would be a lot of pro-rated signing bonus to be returned if he were to retire with four years left on his contract. Unless the Cowboys IR him or release him, he will be required to play this year when he returns to health. Either that or forfeit a ton of money.
