Romo should retire

BigBlueDownTheShore : 8/27/2016 6:16 pm
Thought this deserved its own separate thread. He gest injured constantly and more recently it's his back. He really should want to walk one day. I respect the guy for being a great avisaary for us for the past 10 or so years, but I think it really is time.
agree
Joey from GlenCove : 8/27/2016 6:20 pm : link
Dak will have a fantastic line and running game. If he's got any talent it will show with this OL.

More like wishful thinking...
ZGiants98 : 8/27/2016 6:25 pm : link
Of course Giants fans want him to retire. The guy is a fantastic QB when healthy.
He's got to be considering it
BillT : 8/27/2016 6:27 pm : link
A broken clavicle you can recover from and doesn't have major long term issues. Your back, however, is something else.
His opinion
joeinpa : 8/27/2016 6:27 pm : link
Is probably dicferent
He is at the end of his career
BigBlueDownTheShore : 8/27/2016 6:30 pm : link
Constantly getting injured and it's not a pinky or a collar bone it's his freaking back. That is not something you fuck around with if you want to walk at an older age.
Not trying to be wise guy
joeinpa : 8/27/2016 6:30 pm : link
With previous post. It s just that most elite athletes have difficulty walking away. I agree it would be prudent thing to do
I'm sure he'll let the

History will remember Romo
ThatLimerickGuy : 8/27/2016 6:35 pm : link
As a career nice guy but severe underachiever who always was hurt.

The fact that he was a Cowboy will obviously inflate the general consensus but career wise he is much closer to Kerry Collins than Dan Marino.

His #3 all-time in passer rating
Rob in CT/NYC : 8/27/2016 6:45 pm : link
(Accepting the flaws in that stat).

He is a much better than Collins - his peer group is probably more like Carson Palmer, maybe even Jim Kelly (actually has better career stats, but not the playoff wins).

Romo is one of those guys that's fun to kick when he's down
mfsd : 8/27/2016 6:48 pm : link
because he's a Cowboy - he'd get a lot more respect had he spent his career somewhere else.

And I'm 100% guilty of it too, I've already been bagging on my Cowboy fan friends today. But have to respect the way he's always fought to come back from some serious injuries
"injured constantly"
Larry from WV : 8/27/2016 6:56 pm : link
Aside from last year he is averaging 15.5 games per season since 2011. I doubt I would call that constantly injured.
Jim Kelly?
trueblueinpw : 8/27/2016 6:56 pm : link
JK went to 4 Super Bowls. Maybe yards wise or something but Kelly won in the playoffs. Sure, Kelly lost 4 Sups, but he won 4 straight AFC Champs too. Romo has 1 playoff win right? I'm sorry Romo hurt his back (I guess), but I think Romo has got to be one of the most over rated athletes of all time. Cowboy love is not a good thing.
I can't recall which show it was
Bill L : 8/27/2016 7:09 pm : link
But they were talking about Romo on ESPN yesterday. Question was whether he was hof status. They listed his comps and while I can't recall the list, I do know that both Kelly and Palmer were on it. Others included Eli, Brunnell, Namath.
Romo
Sammo85 : 8/27/2016 7:11 pm : link
Is simply breaking down physically. He came into camp severely out of shape too this year. He's been hurt now I think three or four times out of the last five seasons. He played through one a few seasons ago but looked labored and played a few poor games, I think it was his ribs if I'm not mistaken.

I think Jerry will give him a shot to come back but if he can't do it then he needs to ride off and enjoy his family.

Agreed.
AcidTest : 8/27/2016 7:18 pm : link
He should retire. Lots of respect for him. Excellent player, but it's time. He needs to think about his future after football.
like him or not he's
bluepepper : 8/27/2016 7:19 pm : link
been a tremendous player and was a great find for them as an undrafted FA.
If his doctors
pjcas18 : 8/27/2016 7:21 pm : link
say continuing to play football may have an impact on his life after football then he should consider retiring.

If his doctors say he's fragile/injury prone but isn't risking his quality of life after football then he probably doesn't need to consider retirement.

Underachiever???

Which round was he drafted in?!
I respect Romo...
EricJ : 8/27/2016 7:44 pm : link
and am always nervous when he is healthy and playing against us. I feel like he would not be hurt as much if he learned how to take a hit effectively. He just allows himself to get blasted and always lands in awkward or exposed positions. Honestly that is really the only negative I can think of regarding Romo.
Romo
JesseS : 8/27/2016 7:48 pm : link
Is fantastic. Winning games is more than just QB play. He has his warts but so do other qbs. I hope he retires for the sake of his health.
I heard Troy Aikman last name doing a league promo -

I wish I had a better quote, but the gist was that you are remembered not for the statistics you put up, but for the championships that you won.

This is why Romo will not be remembered by the league. Two playoff wins will not cut it. Maybe that is why Romo will want to continue his career for as long as he can still play well.

Fran Tarkenton was an excellent quarterback, who set the mold for the scrambling quarterback, but he played for two losing teams and has pretty much been forgotten.

Really? Nobody remembers Tarkenton? He is in the fucking hall of fame. I guess they forgot him AFTER he was voted in for being a bad QB?

Didn't he take the Vikings to three Super Bowls?

Not a good analogy because hhe won in the playoffs

I didn't remember the trade of Tarkenton back to the Vikings and his great success there.

The Giants almost had a .500 record when Tarkenton was QB, which shows you had bad the Giants' defense was then.

Very fortunate for Tarkenton that he went back to the Vikes.

Still, you really don't hear that much about him.

I think he did Monday night Football for a few seasons and I remember him co hosting some TV show where people did amazing things but then I think he largely dedicated his time towards business. I remember reading a long time ago that he was pretty successful with some business he started. He has to be getting pretty old now. Probably mostly retired.
No question he should retire IMO

The show was "That's Incredible" and I remember watching as a kid. I knew him as that host before I knew him as a football player.
Yeah that's it

Maybe by you, but not by those who ever saw him play.....he played for an expansion team and the NY Giants.....the wins both those losing teams had were because of him....

going back to the Vikings and finally with a defense he was in 3 SB's......he definitely is not forgotten....for the time period he played, no qb comes close in td's and passing yardage...
Romo is not retiring
fanatic II : 8/27/2016 11:14 pm : link
The talk among the team management and Romo himself is about Prescott holding down the fort till Romo returns.

The target date is week 7(after bye week) at Philadelphia on Sunday night.
Retire?

I was a rabid Giant fan at that time in the middle of The Wilderness Years, and there isn't much of anything good that I remember from that time.

I do remember having a bunch of guys over to my college room to watch the late game and seeing the Giants blown out by the Raiders, 45-0. You?
I wouldn't retire just yet if I were him...
Milton : 8/27/2016 11:41 pm : link
But I get why others would feel that way.

If he can come back healthy this year, it's in his interest to at least play out the season, especially if they are still in the mix for a playoff spot. I say this for two reasons: legacy and money.

Legacy because his in-season statistics are HoF-worthy but he needs to make more noise in the playoffs in order to be remembered as a great QB.

Money, because it could be that there would be a lot of pro-rated signing bonus to be returned if he were to retire with four years left on his contract. Unless the Cowboys IR him or release him, he will be required to play this year when he returns to health. Either that or forfeit a ton of money.
