QB Eli Manning

Postgame at Jets, August 27, 2016

Q: I know it's preseason, but has frustration set in for the first team offense with struggling to move the ball?

A: I'm disappointed. Disappointed that we didn’t get more going, move the ball better than we did. We just got to figure out a way to get completions, move the ball, get into a better rhythm than we did tonight. But that’s what the preseason is for, to figure out these things.

Q: You have four first downs and 88 yards in four quarters. Does that concern you at all, for the first team offense?

A: It is what it is. We’ve got to get better, we’ve got to play better and we'll look at it and figure out a way. When it's on a good defense tonight, it was tough to get some stuff going.

Q: Why are able to just brush that aside in the preseason. What have you seen from the past that makes you think that the preseason isn't a prefect indicator of the season?

A: I don’t know what my stats are in preseason. It's an opportunity to work on some things, try to work on some concepts that you may put in, that you're playing around with. So sometimes you don’t always get perfect converges, but still trying to get a good look at things. We have to play better, it's not good enough, it's not close to being good enough. That's what you're trying to figure out at this point, and we’ve got to understand that we’ve got to do a better job.

Q: Do you think you may have to play a little more just to feel better about yourselves or get something going?

A: That's up to Coach McAdoo. He'll make that decision. But we just have to get back to practicing and make sure we're doing it well on the practice field and then take that into games.

Q: There's a switch, right? You haven't played great in some preseasons then scored a lot of points in the first game.

A: That can change from week to week as well in football. So it's a matter of having a great preparation, then going out there and making the plays on game day. We know we have to play better.

Q: Was it jarring to see Tony Romo in Dallas go down again, looking ahead into Week One?

A: I feel bad for Tony. I know that he had a tough season last year with the injuries. To get injured in a preseason game, and possibly miss some time, I don't know all the details, but I feel for him. You don't like to see any player get hurt, a quarterback I have great respect for, competed against a bunch, get injured. Especially before the season starts.

Q: Did you reach out to him? How did you hear about it?

A: I just heard about it today. Just kind of got word from some players. I knew that he got hurt, sounded like it wasn't too bad, and then today I heard it was a little bit worse. I haven't had time to reach out to him today, but I probably will in the next few days.

Q: Do you know anything about Dak Prescott?

A: Been around Dak a little bit, he's come to our camp before. Watched him play at Mississippi State. Good kid, good player. He's played well in the preseason, I know that. We'll have to deal with that when it comes up.

Q: Some on Twitter have said it is going to be a mini Egg Bowl?

A: There you go, not bad. Yeah, an ole Mississippi state cup.

Q: What did you see on the play, where the ball gets tipped and intercepted?

A: I just had a little play action. They were one high, but that safety was tight. It was low, hard, my back was to it. So I wasn't quite sure where he was. You are kind of coming up throwing. So just try and see him and don’t lead Odell into a big hit right there. So it's preseason, no point going in there taking hits, and throwing guys into big hits.

Q: So you're happy it was intercepted?

A: Under those circumstances, yeah.

Q: Do you have to be careful? If Pryor sees that, that’s unavoidable in a regular season game. Do you have to do anything to be mindful of that?

A: You don’t want to throw any guys into hits. So you try not to do that. Sometimes that's a part of football. They may happen, but I try not to throw my guys across the middle into big hits.
Funny stuff

I wonder if Ole Miss and Miss State QBs ever met before. Don't know how many frm MSU have made it to the NFL.

exactly how I would. He would've preferred not lead OBJ into a big hit there, and then screw it--don't take the hit OBJ.

Our only real concern is (still) the line. You think Eli, OBJ, Jennings and the gang won't be able to make plays if the line holds up? It is (STILL) the damned line.
