I would not have signed Vereen in 2015. To me VEreen is a JAG. He's ok at what's asked of him. Won't get the QB killed and he's adept at running routes, all that...but he's pretty average to me.
I can't really blame the Giants for signing Vereen as there was a huge need for a pass catching RB but i'd much rather have Forte right now. He's better than every RB on the Giants roster by a wide margin. I don't care if he's 100 years old.
I am force feeding Perkins all the coaching and training he can handle. I want no one other than Jennings and PErkins running the football. Tell Darkwa and his pussy blocking to take a hike and i'd only play Williams if Perkins can't block.
They absolutely have to develop a better RB here.
.
Unfortunately this organization doesn't think that way.
Personally, as a long time fan, I find it annoying
that they will constantly keep a draft pick over an UDFA.
Even if said UDFA has really outperformed the draft pick!
I am not talking specifically about Williams, just a general
statement. Darkwa missed a block, rather have him on this roster than a fumble prone Rainey. Darkwa was playing well
on ST's, so I would keep him.
I am not sure if they ever were to give him some burn at
RB, he wouldn't be better than Williams.
plays are breaking down due to missed blocks by the TE or Eli tripping over the turf monster or the RBs missing the hole or illegal formation penalty. IT's all of the above.
It's the easy thing to point out. Everyone is all over the OL right now. Running play goes for 2 yards? It's the OL right? It's not always that simple. The OL has struggled but the entire offense has along with it. They have two weeks or so to get things right. Luckily, these last 3 weeks are meaningless. The OL looked even worse last pre-season. They still scored close to 400 pts last year.
is struggling (though I expect that to improve). The bigger problem is that our TE blocking is atrocious. We have to leave a TE in to help block the edge rush, but Donnell particularly is ineffective blocking. All it does is give Eli one less option to throw to.
Darkwa has missed more than just a block. He missed numerous blocks last Saturday. It seemed like every time he was asked to make a block he wiffed. Even when he tries, he still wiffs. The guy is a disaster.
the Giants offense hasn't run enough plays. Thanks to various mistakes they can't stay on the field. If Eli hits a WR for a first down the OL has a chance to gel some more. Hasn't happened.
I've not been fortunate to see many of the games.....
but it does seem like the Giants have to potential makings of a strong secondary over the next few years. For the first time they have two young and talented guys at the Safety position. Apple and Jenkins will man he corners for the next few years. DRC will probably be nudged out next year and replaced with another draft pick.
They still have to play the games and all this potential could turn out to be misplaced hope but at this juncture, I'll choose to be optimistic.
Fats, I'm not concerned about the results of games ....
or the fact that the offense isn't scoring in the preseason. I'm concerned because re watching the games has shown that our offensive line is losing one on one battles on a consistent basis. They are getting overpowered in both the run and pass games.
That there doesn't seem to be any sense of urgency,
if we acquired the unicorn... both our TE and OL problems would be solved. We could run the football (we havent since he left)--- and teams couldnt scheme as easily to exploit us on the edge of the line
the defense is more talented and has a chance to be competitive.
The offense looks lousy but I keep hearing it doesn t matter because it s preseason. But this team couldn't run the ball last year. It s the same line and it hasn't t been able to run this year preseason or not.
Yeah but who cares? I hope McAdoo realizes this and just passes 40 times like the Patriots do. Hopefully, no more Coughlin Balance. Do what you do best, period.
there aren't this many fans who have no fucking clue about playcalling in the preseason.
Please give me hope that I'm not spending so much of the same space with complete and absolute fuckheads.
Lol. Preseason is used to evaluate talent and work on what you are bad at. Notice how we haven't seen the quick passes that McAdoo is known for? What would that tell us about the o-Line if they only had to block less than 2 seconds. I'm with you FatMan

The defense looks much better than last few years. A reason for hope and optimism that the team can hold off opposing offenses late in games.
The offseason spending spree appears to be money well spent on Vernon and Snacks and Jenkins.
NFL teams cannot have adequate quality depth at all positions, once again the Giants lack quality depth along the Oline.
The new zone blocking scheme and new coaching techniques will take some time for the linemen to adjust to and become comfortable with.
The injury bug seems to be much less a factor so far - may it stay that way all season.
McAdoo seems to be doing OK as a rookie head coach - no glaringly obvious gafs and he doesn't appear overwhelmed.
The secondary appears to be much better. Keeping Collins at Strong Safety and the emergence of Thompson as Free Safety is very encouraging. The Giants have talented depth at Safety and CB. Very important in a pass happy league.
Eli Apple appears to be a very talented and capable CB - even as a rookie. He could contribute greatly this year.
While the offense has not played well, the team has not shown any signs of game planning and the left side of the line will stabilize once Pugh returns this week.
John Jerry is not as bad as some BBIers contend. Newhouse, may be as bad as some BBIers contend. Hart is the not the savoir that some BBIers contend either.
Williams looks better so far this season, and Darkwa looks like he has regressed.
Disappointed that LaCosse was hurt and now cut. I thought he and Adams were the future at TE.
The TE's cannot effectively block. No confidence on Donnell. Tye has a mixed review - good as a receiver; not as good as a blocker. He may still develop. Adams will need time, but may come on later in the season.
pretty much a falsehood and one of the reasons preseason gets overanalyzed here:

ts amazing how people want to take away nothing from a bad preseason

and yet players win jobs based on preseason play.
Players win jobs based on their performance in practice and training camp. If there is a really close battle, perhaps a preseason game performance will tip the scales, but ever since the CBA, preseason games have taken on less and less importance.
2. The O-line still sucks

So far those are the key storylines as we approach the regular season starting line.
That and people forgetting that Eli and the offense looks bad almost every year in preseason.

Mine is -- that the Giants still don't have a running game
but I'm liking what I'm seeing on Defense
+ Safety
- OL
Biggest takeaway though is overall good health.
