QB (2): not much suspense here.
RB (likely 4): Somebody is getting cut. I'll put in order of most likely: Darkwa, Williams, Jennings, Perkins (no reason to cut a cost controlled guy with promise), Vereen (has carved out a clear role, same he thrived in NE)
Prediction: Darkwa versus Williams; Darkwa wins b/c of STs
FB (1): WIll Johnson has the job assuming he's healthy
WR (6): OBJ, Cruz (let's assume he's healthy for now), Shephard all make it. Davis should make it as the only physical WR we have. King, Lewis, Powe, White and perhaps a waiver wire pickup fight it out for 2 spots.
Prediction: King and Lewis make it to go along with the obvious.
TE (3): Tye, Donnell and Adams should probably make up the TE corps, but you wonder if Donnell is at risk of losing his spot to a blocking TE. I wouldn't argue if that happened.
OL (9): Flowers, Pugh, Richburg and Jerry are locks. So is Hart as the primary backup. Newhouse make it which is a sad state of affairs. No other reserve has laid claim to anything. Troubling. I focused on Jake Rodgers - I think he's better than Stingily which is no great endorsement.
DE (4, maybe 5?): OV, JPP are locks. OO is a near lock. Wynn and Okwara play so well in there reserve roles...would have to cut any of our DEs.
DT (4): Hank and Snacks locks. Bromley likely. Millhouse a PS candidate. Neither Nix nor Hughes are inspiring. Could Okwara...a DE get this roster spot? Or can we roll w 5 DEs and 4 DTs in which case Millhouse, Nix and Hughes fight for one spot.
LB (6): Casillas if healthy is a lock. Kennard is very likely. Goodson equally likely. Brinkley probably beats out Shepphard for the starting spot and roster spot with Goodson being the backup. Robinson is pretty encouraging. That's 5. So thats a 3 way fight for one spot: Herzlich, Sheppard and Thomas. I like Thomas here.
CB (6): Locks = DRC, Apple, Jenkins.Likely: Hall. A few ham n' eggers fight it out for two spots.
Safety (4): Collins and Thompson are the starters. A whole lot of uncertainty for the other 2 guys.
Specialists (3) - DeOssie and the K/P all may have Pro Bowl potential. I am not into Rainey making the team as a returner.
That's 53 with 5 DEs. Reasonable so far. Obviously a lot of variables to play out in the next 6 days.
Casillas, Kennard, Sheppard, Goodson, Robinson and Thomas would be my six.
At WR, I am betting it's keep King, try to get Lewis and Powe on the practice squad. The problem this preseason has been that the reserve OL is so bad these guys haven't gotten many chances.
I think the 5 DEs are a done deal with both Wynn and Darkwa.
I think Williams will make it over Darkwa. While I don't see his offensive fit with this team, I just don't see them pulling the plug this early.
At safety, Collins, D. Thompson, Berhe and M. Thompson
If they think Goodson can fill in at one or both OLB positions, they could keep both Sheppard and Brinkley. I'd move on from JTT who can't seem to stay healthy. Especially if they're already keeping Kennard and Robinson who have both consistently battled various injuries throughout their careers.
