NFT: The Wire or Game of Thrones ??

Just started "The Night of"' for now till I decide

...and I love GOT.
But The Wire's characters and writing were some of the best I've seen. Breaking Bad trumps them both for characters, writing, action and suspense, though IMHO.

It's my second favorite behind the sopranos. I fell in love with some of those characters. Breaking bad is 2nd only because I didn't develop so many feelings for as many characters. I love them both, easily my 2 fav shows ever

GOT is great...but The Wire will knock you on your ass

And I'm a lifelong D&D fantasy style junkie. The Wire is arguably the greatest television drama ever put onscreen.

It's brilliant. I love GoT but if you can only choose one, it's the Wire. BUT, watch the whole thing. Don't start a thread 4 episodes in saying why did you make me pick this. Don't start one two seasons in. It's a masterfully crafted series where each episode builds on the ones before and each season does the same. It may be the best series ever created. It's brilliant.

By a mile. It's the most intelligent TV show ever made.

But for pure fun you may want to consider....

Fanbases of the two series obviously overlap a lot, but I think each speaks most strongly to a distinct audience. If The Wire is more up your alley, definitely go that way.

Both shows are "best of breed", so go with the breed you prefer.

while I applaud the size and scope of GoT, it doesn't hold a candle to the Wire, just not close IMO. The Wire is story telling and character creation at its finest, the amount of characters that you are introduced to and actually care about is unmatched. It's the only show I can watch on repeat viewing as its always captivating and continues to get better with age.

start with game of thrones since that's still running and after you catch up you will be able to revel in its actual existence. The Wire is long gone. You won't stumble into any spoilers like you might with Thrones. Plus. the wire is pretty much spoiler free. Get Thrones going stat.

you really need to invest in the wire. The sum is better than its parts, so to speak. Stick with it. It's by far the best crime/cop series ever crafted.

The wire sounds amazing!! Hopefully my attention spans allows me to truly enjoy all the details and craftfull buildup. I appreciate that kind of stuff.

You can't skip an episode, even in the weaker seasons, without creating a gaping hole you can drive a truck through.

Don't mix other shows. Just do S1-S5 straight through. Best way to envelope yourself in the story. It is the most compelling show of the last 20 odd years, at least.

It seems like you're trying to sneak this all in during your Free Preview period, so, I'd go for The Wire since it is a completed masterpiece and GoT is still playing out - and it can really drag for episodes - and I'm a fan.

The Wire is a top 3 tv show of all time, and it has one of the top 20 characters in ANY medium of entertainment (imo) and some really great actors in the beginning of their careers (Idris Elba, etc.)

I've been watching new shows this summer that I need to catch up on and upon finishing the first season of many of them came to the conclusion that at least to me and in my opinion....Game of Thrones is not a good as I thought when comparing it fresh to some of these other ones.

GoT has a ton of flaws and I think its completely fair to talk about them when discussing all time great shows. The story telling decreases greatly in the most recent 2 seasons. That isn't to say it isn't an all timer, it is, but I agree, it gets more credit due to its scope than the glaring weakness in its writing.

i think its the best show of all time.

The Wire and Deadwood are both awesome.. but I don't remember waiting for episodes like a I did for GOT.

In Treatment > Game of Thrones

They're all great though.

but the Wire was awesome.

I also see actors from the Wire everywhere (not in person, other shows)

Not because it's better than GoT but because the story is complete.. GoT still has 2 more seasons.. 2 of the best shows ever... Even better than Sopranos..

but Wire wins because it's so much more than a tv show.

I did and I also laughed at it (actually a decent movie). I can't see him in anything and not think, "Sheeeeeeeee-it." Another powerful character actor.
