Herrerra is a sunk cost as this point.

Agree 100%. Not happy about losing Herrera, but with Reyes/Cabrera's recent emergence, Flores looking like a super sub at worst, and Cecchini still in the mix, not to mention David Wright's corpse, we have enough IFers that Herrera isn't a disaster to lose. Just please don't pick up the option so Terry thinks he has to play Granderson and Bruce most of the time because they are making so much money.
Nice to see Cheech get a handle on his errors. He still has one every now and then(and Im not excusing his overall numbers) but he seems to have corrected his issue over the last month somewhat.
I'd like to add Sewald to the 40 man somehow. I feel we could really use him in September. (Edgin's spot?) If we are going to roll our eyes over Cheech, Nimmo, and Conforto playing out of their minds in Vegas, then we should assume Sewald is the future greatest closer in the history of baseball. lol.
I agree. It sucks. Nothing we can do. I still think Cheech and Nimmo's approach will translate to the majors. Big power numbers would scare me more in Vegas I think but who knows.
As for Cecchini, 100% not a knock but to give you an idea of how stupid LV is, league adjusted his numbers are actually a little worse than last season.
wRC+ 2015 139

So the perception is he's having some sort of huge breakout when the truth is he's been consistently solid the past 2 seasons but that 2016 is basically identical (almost crazily so). LV is a bummer.
DSL season ended.

I was being a little over the top obviously but I still think he would be a nice arm to add down the stretch. As we are seeing with many of our pitchers like Gsellman, Lugo, even Smoker after a rough debut... they sometimes have even an "easier" time in the majors.
Klaw: The amount of stat-line scouting on Smith the last few years was just comical. He was a young HS senior with a great swing, great feel to hit, and plus raw power. The Mets put him right into full-season ball, and he didn’t put up huge numbers right away, so the fake-scouting started – but he was never overmatched, never really struggled, always made contact, and if you saw him or talked to folks who did you knew he was working on going the other way because his pull power wasn’t resulting in HR. I could rant for a while but I’ve always thought he was at least an above average overall player at 1b and I still think that’s what he’ll be
Klaw: I think that would be aggressive
Will: Brando Nimmo is scorching lefties at Triple A this year. Now we’re talking about 116 plate appearances in Vegas, but have you heard any reports that this aspect of his game has improved?
Klaw: It’s Vegas. Someone pointed out to me on Twitter that Nimmo’s AAA stats were better than Seager’s. The ballpark destroys any value in the stats
Michael Conforto: Why am I in Las Vegas? And why would you put me at first base or centerfield?
Klaw: You’re in Vegas because the Mets’ manager hates youth so much he watches the Little League World Series and boos the television.

HAHAHAHA
Shecky,
No, Law has consistently been the "high man" on Smith. He's a big fan and has been.
"th ESPN's Keith Law's recent release of his annual rankings of farm systems in which the Mets placed 16th, baseball fans know the season is around the corner. Today, the season feels just a little closer as Law announced his list of top 100 minor league prospects at ESPN (Insider subscription required). His rankings feature four Mets prospects, headlined by Dominic Smith at 29th overall, whom he tabs as "one of the best pure hitters in the minors."
Law added that he believes Smith is a safe bet to be a .300 hitter with 20-homer upside with sparkling defense at first base. However, Law says his upside may only be reached if Smith "keeps his uniform buttons from bursting," as Law points out Smith could be skipping basic conditioning, resulting in sloppy defense in the Arizona Fall League. Smith was the 11th overall pick by the Mets in 2013. He is still just 20 years old."
Cuse would be great from an NY point of view and maybe building the fanbase a bit upstate. Helps that my inlaws live in Cuse also so I'd be able to see some games.
Nashville is the largest of the cities and a great place to take a trip to. Fun place to have a AAA team without the ridiculousness of Las Vegas. Durham sort of bring (just IMO) but would still be an improvement.

paper the 3 spots the Mets should aim for after 2 more in LV are Syracuse, Nashville and Durham. Hard to identify another clear, good option. Nashville stands out as potentially the best/most realistic.

The reason I think Nashville is the best case is mostly because they are currently affiliated with Oakland which is an odd fit geographically so it's possible both the A's and Nashville agree to part. That said, even the A's probably prefer Nashville to Las Vegas (the place nobody wants to be. Syracuse obviously would be nice geographically as well.

I could be confusin people, but wasn't Law pretty loud on his Dom criticism over the years?
Shecky,

Thanks Dan. I don't follow these nearly as well as you do, that's why I was asking. I remember a couple of years ago one of the big name guys starting shitting on Dom and everyone else followed. Wasn't sure if it was Law or someone else.
To my knowledge their is no financial benefit offered that. I've never really seen an article portraying team X as being more appealing thanks to more money to offer, usually it's about geography/prospects in the system. I could be wrong. Just haven't seen anything to suggest that.
