-Lugo VS Koehler
-Cespedes hits walk off. (I seriously believe Cespedes is turning Piazza-like. His ability to hit home runs on command in big spots is something I havent seen in quite some time. He was not this player before coming to the Mets. Thanks Long!)
-Colon tomorrow. Matz Thursday
-Cabrera named NL player of the week
-Mets tied with Marlins now. Still 2.5 back!
LGM!
I assume Montero goes down for now as he won't be available for a few days
I was always one who preferred Reyes over Wright and felt that when in their prime and healthy Reyes was the more dynamic, game-breaking talent than Wright.
That said, I hated the idea of bringing him back this season. Besides the obvious disappointment in his off the field behavior and after not seeing much of him in his Toronto/Colorado I just believed he was a declining talent with personal baggage.
As it turns out, he can still get on base and disrupt a game with his speed/base-running, which is exactly what this team has lacked. He plays a very good 3b and can still play SS if needed. I also like the chemistry it seems like he and YC have been building. That is hopefully a positive factor in YC's return.

Not only is he playing at a reduced salary but he's playing his heart out there, its inspiring to say for baseball fans like myself. I hope he's back next year

He will 100% be back next year, he's under team control IIRC.

His agent said there's a team option for 2017. And $ isn't a worry for Reyes:
The Rockies are on the hook to pay the troubled former All-Star more than $38 million on his deal that ran through 2018.
When a player is cut, he still gets his full pay.
If he then signs with another team, his new salary offsets his old pay.
So if a player is supposed to earn $1, gets cut and signs with another team. He signs for 10 cents. He still earns $1, 90 cents from former club and 10 cents from current. He has no incentive to sign for more than the minimum.
"ive been a mets fan for 60 years

the winmdow is closing
a few years ago thr mrtd were looking at a dynasty with their vaunted pitching staff
and now theres one good player - cespedes
"its scary"
Evan Roberts; I think if the Mets win their games, they are in.
What is going on?
New York Mets:
RHP Rafael Montero has been optioned to @LasVegas51s as the corresponding move for Logan Verrett
I honestly thought they should have done this with Robert Gsellman also. Not any knock at him. Just he's unusable for few days.
Michael Baron:
Verett basically replaces an unavailable Montero, which is cool. But if Walker/Cabrera are still out, bench is still very short
I honestly think the Mets like playing with a short bench, it's the only explanation
DL also waives 10-day requirement. But no one is going on DL two days before rosters expand unless severe.
So no TJ until Mondey. Nimmo, Conforto, Kelly, Plawecki, etc probably Thursday
awful news. AAA level is basically useless to us, developmentally and logistically.

Why don't they send down Smoker, who has pitched in 3 straight days and bring up Reynolds as insurance at SS at least.
Reyes 3B
Cabrera SS
Cespedes LF
Bruce RF
DeAZA CF
Flores 2B
Loney 1B
Rivera C
Lugo P

It seems if they sent down Smoker now they couldn't bring him back until next week. They have an accomplished SS on the roster, if needed.
Rochester was there only option until the Twins re-upped there. No place else to go. They blew it in Buffalo.
And apparently Walker is no longer going to be able to play every day for the rest of the year because his back is all fucked up.
Just never ends.
A team can only take so much bad news before they start believing in the bad juju. Its going to be VERY hard getting into the playoffs without Matz and Walker.
And apparently Walker is no longer going to be able to play every day for the rest of the year because his back is all fucked up.

Matz said he believes he will pitch again this season ... which makes it sound like he won't. Gsellman and Lugo probably be going against the Nats this weekend.
Walker, it seems, will be day-to-day every day
We gotta start considering the other minor league guys as the 5th starter in 2017
And apparently Walker is no longer going to be able to play every day for the rest of the year because his back is all fucked up.

Looks like DeGrom just got pencilled in as Thursday's starter instead?
Where is Syndergaard?

In recent history? Beltran is up there. Darryl was a legit 5-tool guy, no?
If the team falls out of the race, then shut him down. If they are still within a game or two of the wild card and Matz is ready to make a few starts down the stretch, I think we'd be happy to have him attempt to contribute.
Granderson: 0.2 WAR
Wright: Out for year
Cespedes: Chronic quad strain
Duda: Out for year
Walker: Serious back issue
Conforto: AAA
Cabrera: Chronic knee issue
d'Arnaud: -0.6 WAR
Lagares: Out for year
Harvey: Out for yea
Also I wouldn't re-sign Walker for anything more than one season with that back issue
The question may be ... will they sign Walker at all? He's had back issues for a number of years and he'll be 31 before next season.
Duda also may be a question. He was on the DL last year with a back and this year has been a disaster. He, too, will be 31 before next season.
My guess is Cabrera aggravates his knee again tonight and has to come out early.
Over the last 17 days, 4 #Mets pitchers earned their 1st major-league wins, incl. Seth Lugo, who starts tonight vs. #Marlins—7 pm on @SNYtv.

Beltran. Strawberry. Piazza. Not many more I'd have ahead of him off the top of my head.
Cabrera -ss
Walker -2b
Flores -1b
Too bad we gave up Herrera for the corpse of Jay Bruce.
Cabrera -ss

Definitely. You can see Flores improving vs RHP as he gets some opportunities. Would be asinine IMO to keep playing Loney there over Flores.
Too bad we gave up Herrera for the corpse of Jay Bruce.
If we are going to complain too bad they didn't value Murphy enough to resign him. Take him off the Nats and have him in our lineup and the Mets are probably battling for first place instead of WC.
Biggest problem was he didn't have a position this season. Now with injuries he has. Who were you sitting in his place to start this season?
Yeah I don't trust the BP so much lately.
There's really zero upside to playing Loney at 1B at all. In the very least we can play Flores at 1B every day for the next month. He has been hitting righties over the last week or so. Maybe he's adjusted finally.
Yes.. Except TC loves Loney too much (vet).
4 for 4.
We need him, Cab and Cespedes to lead this charge. What a pickup by Sandy
Cabrera SS
Cespedes LF
Bruce RF
Walker 2B
Granderson/Conforto CF
Flores 1B
TDA C
Can they stay together for one freaking month? That's not a bad lineup.
The whole team changed because of Reyes.
Imagine if Granderson is still hitting leadoff..
That was brutal. I thought for sure he was going to be legitimately injured. We really caught a break there for once.
That was bad but let's not be rash.

Reyes had gotten hurt last night?

Yeah the way this season has gone and the way he was holding his arm when walking off, I was guess separated shoulder or something.
Like you said, nice to finally have the odds go our way for a change.
I thought the same thing. I can't believe he's still under .200.. it feels like he turned it around 2 months ago and has been way better ever since.
July he was about as hot as any hitter but he has cooled off some. But it does feel like he contributes a lot more now regardless.
It's Keith Hernandez!

No Keith does have a little bit of a giggle to his laugh but I'm talking about how Gary sometimes acts giddy to be joking with those two.

Haha I meant of course Cohen would have a school girl crush. See Jerry Seinfeld. 🙊

Yeah that definitely backfired. Didn't want to waste Verrett when he could be needed as a longman if a rookie had to face a team like Washington
Obviously our AAA team is a poor gauge for major league performance
Go Brewers!!!
We really can't even go one day without a new injury or an old one recurring. It's seriously incredible. We should just start a nightly pool on which player will get hurt.
My guess is Cabrera aggravates his knee again tonight and has to come out early.
Mike Puma
Walker has been dealing with a "tingling" sensation in Lowe back area. Will be receiving a second opinion tomorrow.
All indications are Walker will try to play through it, but wants to be sure.
Asdrubal Cabrera acknowledged his knee is still cranky and that's why he was pulled from game. But he vowed to remain in the lineup. Cabrera felt the knee bark leaping for a line drive.

Cabrera in the lineup. Says knee feels a little better but feels he needs to be in lineup for big games. - Kristie Ackert

Not surprised. He prob has Duda-itis.
Milwaukee brewers could not drive in the tying run with the bases loaded and lose 2-1 in extras
One thing that might emerging here is that not only is AAA not a good place to evaluate our hitters, it's also not a good place to evaluate our pitchers either.

Yep. Seth Lugo is a real MLB starter and we almost missed it due to the damn Vegas location. Matt Bowman looks pretty good for the Cards despite his struggles in Vegas
They also have a tough schedule vs Dodgers, DBs, Cubs, Cardinals
