-Lugo VS Koehler
-Cespedes hits walk off. (I seriously believe Cespedes is turning Piazza-like. His ability to hit home runs on command in big spots is something I havent seen in quite some time. He was not this player before coming to the Mets. Thanks Long!)
-Colon tomorrow. Matz Thursday
-Cabrera named NL player of the week
-Mets tied with Marlins now. Still 2.5 back!
LGM!
I assume Montero goes down for now as he won't be available for a few days
I was always one who preferred Reyes over Wright and felt that when in their prime and healthy Reyes was the more dynamic, game-breaking talent than Wright.
That said, I hated the idea of bringing him back this season. Besides the obvious disappointment in his off the field behavior and after not seeing much of him in his Toronto/Colorado I just believed he was a declining talent with personal baggage.
As it turns out, he can still get on base and disrupt a game with his speed/base-running, which is exactly what this team has lacked. He plays a very good 3b and can still play SS if needed. I also like the chemistry it seems like he and YC have been building. That is hopefully a positive factor in YC's return.

Not only is he playing at a reduced salary but he's playing his heart out there, its inspiring to say for baseball fans like myself. I hope he's back next year

and admit that I was wrong about Reyes.

He will 100% be back next year, he's under team control IIRC.

His agent said there's a team option for 2017. And $ isn't a worry for Reyes:
The Rockies are on the hook to pay the troubled former All-Star more than $38 million on his deal that ran through 2018.
When a player is cut, he still gets his full pay.
If he then signs with another team, his new salary offsets his old pay.
So if a player is supposed to earn $1, gets cut and signs with another team. He signs for 10 cents. He still earns $1, 90 cents from former club and 10 cents from current. He has no incentive to sign for more than the minimum.
"ive been a mets fan for 60 years
50
the winmdow is closing
a few years ago thr mrtd were looking at a dynasty with their vaunted pitching staff
and now theres one good player - cespedes
"its scary"
Evan Roberts; I think if the Mets win their games, they are in.
What is going on?
New York Mets:
RHP Rafael Montero has been optioned to @LasVegas51s as the corresponding move for Logan Verrett
I honestly thought they should have done this with Robert Gsellman also. Not any knock at him. Just he's unusable for few days.
Michael Baron:
Verett basically replaces an unavailable Montero, which is cool. But if Walker/Cabrera are still out, bench is still very short
I honestly think the Mets like playing with a short bench, it's the only explanation
DL also waives 10-day requirement. But no one is going on DL two days before rosters expand unless severe.
So no TJ until Mondey. Nimmo, Conforto, Kelly, Plawecki, etc probably Thursday
awful news. AAA level is basically useless to us, developmentally and logistically.

Why don't they send down Smoker, who has pitched in 3 straight days and bring up Reynolds as insurance at SS at least.
Reyes 3B
Cabrera SS
Cespedes LF
Bruce RF
DeAZA CF
Flores 2B
Loney 1B
Rivera C
Lugo P

It seems if they sent down Smoker now they couldn't bring him back until next week. They have an accomplished SS on the roster, if needed.
Rochester was there only option until the Twins re-upped there. No place else to go. They blew it in Buffalo.
And apparently Walker is no longer going to be able to play every day for the rest of the year because his back is all fucked up.
Just never ends.
A team can only take so much bad news before they start believing in the bad juju. Its going to be VERY hard getting into the playoffs without Matz and Walker.
And apparently Walker is no longer going to be able to play every day for the rest of the year because his back is all fucked up.

Matz said he believes he will pitch again this season ... which makes it sound like he won't. Gsellman and Lugo probably be going against the Nats this weekend.
Walker, it seems, will be day-to-day every day
We gotta start considering the other minor league guys as the 5th starter in 2017

Looks like DeGrom just got pencilled in as Thursday's starter instead?
Where is Syndergaard?

In recent history? Beltran is up there. Darryl was a legit 5-tool guy, no?
If the team falls out of the race, then shut him down. If they are still within a game or two of the wild card and Matz is ready to make a few starts down the stretch, I think we'd be happy to have him attempt to contribute.
Granderson: 0.2 WAR
Wright: Out for year
Cespedes: Chronic quad strain
Duda: Out for year
Walker: Serious back issue
Conforto: AAA
Cabrera: Chronic knee issue
d'Arnaud: -0.6 WAR
Lagares: Out for year
Harvey: Out for yea
Also I wouldn't re-sign Walker for anything more than one season with that back issue
The question may be ... will they sign Walker at all? He's had back issues for a number of years and he'll be 31 before next season.
Duda also may be a question. He was on the DL last year with a back and this year has been a disaster. He, too, will be 31 before next season.
My guess is Cabrera aggravates his knee again tonight and has to come out early.
Over the last 17 days, 4 #Mets pitchers earned their 1st major-league wins, incl. Seth Lugo, who starts tonight vs. #Marlins—7 pm on @SNYtv.

Beltran. Strawberry. Piazza. Not many more I'd have ahead of him off the top of my head.
