I find it odd that a guy with so little real game experience won't at least play a series or two....maybe they want to create as little game tape as possible? Link - ( New Window )
and get him more game time. If he gets hurt playing against scrubs with the 'all-world' line (who can't keep Romo safe) line protecting him, then the season should just be written off anyway.
To run the ball. Giants run defense will be tested.
I think defense holds them under 20 points. I think Eli will slice up that defense. Giant will score a lot. 38-17.

That means exposing the line to injury too, in a meaningless, sloppy (and likely chippy) game against scrubs who are desperate to make an impression. The offensive line is Dallas's best hope for a winning season. So it's not just a question of whether to risk Prescott.
that's afforded a chance for additional playing time. How do you not let him get some playing time?
The few series he would see won't make the difference between a win or loss in week one, especially against a D without its starters running a basic scheme. Any way they cut it he's getting a baptism by fire in week one against what appears to be a talented, capable defense.
The Giants may very well lose this game, but if they do it will be because of the Dallas run game, clock control, and field position. I'd bet the house that it won't be because of Dak Prescott.

The Giants will not be humming well enough to score 38.
If we keep Dallas under 23 I think we'll win but this is by no means a gimme game. Week 1 is flukey.
He will be going into Week 1, not ever being schemed for by a DC. I am very interested to see how Spags attacks this kid, because he does add the dynamic of being a running QB. Pull out all the tricks IMO and see how the kid handles it.
Regardless, they are going to try to stuff the ball down our throats to take as much pressure off of Dak as possible. This is why I love our front 4, because all are VERY capable against the run. Brinkley will be given a ton of PT game 1 as well, being our best LB vs the run.
I love how "careful" we are being with messages about this game.
They will attack our LBs to the outside with swing passes and check downs as well as the middle of the field with play action to Beasly, Witten, and Escobar.
The whole point of having a quality DL is that you can apply pressure without blitzing. That's always been Spag's philosophy. If you blitz and the extra guy doesn't get home, you're fucked. Either Prescott hits the singled up guy, or he eludes and picks up yardage with his feet.
The good news is, for the first time in a few years, we might actually have a DL good enough to collapse the pocket without sending a extra pass rusher.
Spags blitzed a decent amount when we had an LB who could do it
Unless I'm imagining things, Kavika Mitchell blitzed more than occasionally in 2007.
Okay, I'm willing to grant that point without looking it up, but I think the larger point stands - if we have a quality blitzing LB on the roster, it's not obvious at this moment. And broadly speaking, "throwing the kitchen sink" at even an average QB is generally not a recipe for success. It's a fun strategy for Madden, but even Buddy Ryan's 46 defense only worked for a couple years before teams figured out how to block it up.

Didnt Kennard have 4.5 sacks his rookie year? Thats pretty decent for an LB that didnt play in all of the games.
and somehow the Cowboys win, it might just convince Reese what a good OL can do....or maybe not....
Stop acting like we have not invested high picks towards the OL. 3 premium round picks were addressed with Flowers, Pugh, and Richburg. You can certainly criticize him on how well some of those picks panned out, but to act like the FO has turned their noses at addressing the front isn't even an observation. What you are doing is creating a narrative.
Sure it gives the Giants a shot at a big play, but it also gives the Cowboys a shot at a big play if the blitzers don't make it home. Let the front four earn the their paychecks and use the back seven to disguise coverages and keep him guessing if it's zone or man they are playing.
I'm not saying the shouldn't throw the blender or the toaster at him, but keep the kitchen sink attached to its plumbing.
I tend to think they will blitz a little more often
since he's a rookie. They will force him to think quickly and make a mistake. They will also do the rest as well (disguise coverage, switch things up, etc).

Because at this point he is all they have.
Would rather have 2 extra series of experience over a health QB?
Well, we know Perry Fewell wouldn't pressure the kid.

Maybe our LB/Safety crew will be on top of their game and be ready to shut down his escape lanes...

He has not face a real pro defense yet. Need stunts, drop lineman, etc. Mix it up.
I don't see Dallas putting up much more than 22 points
I think we can hang 30 on them ...
