I just read right here on BBI that Cooper Taylor's preseason statistics were so good that he was virtually a shoe-in for a lot of playing time this season. What happened?!?
To an extent I agree, but you also need to consider that drafting a player late is also a way of securing his services.
One time, okay. Three times over the space of a couple of years? Not okay.

Maybe, but he made a big hit late in the game against
the Jets, denying a first down. That is really what
preseason is all about, making an impression on the coaches.
The cuts seem to suggest that the medical staff expects both Thompsons to be cleared very soon. Meanwhile, Adams and Currie figure to play a lot against New England, with a chance to cement a practice squad slot.

Please point out all of the great players Reese passed on to "reach" for Cooper Taylor.
Quinten Dial, Micah Hyde, Luke Wilson, Zac Stacy all would have contributed more than Taylor did.
LOL, talk about "reaches."
The fact is that just like Gerris Wilkinson, Cooper Taylor was a talented kid who turned out to be injury prone. Rather than a reach, he was the type of player that you take a chance on in day three of the draft. There are no sure things in the 5th round, nor are there any reaches. You can kill Reese for a Marvin Austin or Clint Sintim in the 2nd round, or even a Jernigan or Hosley in the 3rd, but in the 5th? Puh-leeze. That's just "reaching" for something to bitch about.
RE: RE: Interesting. Berhe and Thompson sticking at least for now.

Yeah, I expect them to get time at FS, since right now it seems like it's the Thompsons is all they have at that spot and both show injury concerns. But injury concerns have been pretty common in this group.
But all the Reese defenders can do when they're provided wrong, from day one, is call names
The fact that Reese "defenders" exist is only because of posters who illogically want to blame every bad move on him and give no credit.
So they use different names to be derogatory - "Reese defenders" Reese apologists", etc. Why is it such a bad thing to support the team you root for instead of wish ill?
I'm no going to tar and feather Reese for a 5th round pick that didn't pan out. Rounds 1-4 is a different story. If you look at the Taylor pick it looked like a worthwhile bet. He had good measurables and played a position of need.
That said, I would make a counter argument that the existence of "Reese critics" was only in response to the "In Reese we Trust" chorus that refused to acknowledge that poor drafting was killing this team.
I take you point Fatman. Some of the criticism of Reese has certainly been over the top and ridiculous, but that said some of his decisions are worthy of questioning.
The point is that all GMs have "decisions worthy of questioning"
and 5th rounds have a high bust rate.
Dr. Kenneth, are you capable of acknowledging that any criticism of Reese is legitimate? Any time anyone makes a post criticizing Reese you have almost a knee jerk reaction to rush to his defense. You did that in you response to my post. Your reaction was to say "all GMs have questionable decisions" implying whether intended or not that Reese is beyond reproach.
I can actually give Reese credit. I think this year's draft was outstanding. The draft didn't go they way I hoped but we got solid players. I applaud Reese for sticking with his convictions and selecting Apple rather than going all Cedric Jones and forcing a bad need pick like Tunsill. In a few year we will all be happy he took Apple.
I think Reese is very good at identifying talent at the WR, DE, and CB positions. For the most part his WR picks during his tenure have been very good. Nicks, Smith, Manningham and OBJ all produced at high levels. Hopefully, Shepphard will continue the trend. There have been busts like Barden but his overall record is strong.
I challenge you to say something critical of Reese.
These discussions always get poisoned by hindsight

More moving the goal posts. All those guys, except perhaps Wilson, were productive in a big time program. Not comparable at all with Taylor.
RE: These discussions always get poisoned by hindsight
Taylor was drawing comparisons to Kam Chancellor - another 5th round pick - from Gil Brandt and others. Taylor would have been perfect - dare I say "tailor-made" - for the Deon Grant role in Perry Fewell's defense. He simply couldn't stay healthy.
I wanted them both cut, after Currie made that hit
the other night, my instincts told me he would survive
the first cut. Lets face it, they saw Taylor on IR and little
else from Taylor.

Of course I can be critical of Reese, I just choose not to be fucking stupid.
-I wanted Cordy Glenn over Wilson
-I thought we should have kept Martellus Bennett
Im sure there are more moves I didnt like, thats just off the top of my head.
If you need me to explain why bitching about a 5th round pick busting out is idiotic, then theres not much I can do for you.
I have news for you: All GMs have busts, thats just the way the draft works.
Reese has been very successful in the 1st round:
-He drafted one of the best players in the game in Beckham. You mentioned the success hes had drafting WRs.
-Hes rebuilt the defense.
The OL is still a work in progress, but every team in the league has holes. Teams all over the league have OL issues- Look at the Colts- They drafted the best QB prospect in a decade, and he gets his ass handed to him every Sunday. Bears, Packers, San Diegoall have OL issues.
If you want to replace Reese, Im fine with that. Im not related to him, I dont really give a shit. But, if you think a new GM is gonna start pulling Pro Bowlers out of the 5th round, youre going to be disappointed. Has he really missed on a 1st round pick? (Wilson?)
You have posters all over making huge leaps and assumptions here. Lots of stupid.

Kenneth, I apologize. I shouldn't have called you out. I am having a very bad day and I just lashed out at you for no good reason. Please accept my apology.
No worries! All good. I would call me out as well! Lol.
Sometimes you get Ahmad Bradshaw in the 7th, and then fans get spoiled and think you should hit on every pick. It never works that way.
And before everybody pisses on the front office, remember that Taylor and Jackson were beaten out by D. Thompson, M. Thompson, Behre and Collins -- all draft picks.
Anthony Adams is going to make this football team. He really seems like a Spags guy. a good game vs. the Pats will clinch it for Double A imo, he better play like its the Super Bowl
i have to admit, i was pretty psyched about Cooper Taylor after Sehorn compared him to himself after we drafted him. Sapp compared Marvin Austin to himself, too..

isn't that Reese hasn't missed on picks. It is the incessant bitching about the guy and blaming him for anything.
People are routinely called Reese apologists or Reese supporters here, but how many threads are there about the great moves he's making? Meanwhile, there are a lot of threads about how shitty his moves are, there are trite little sayings like Jerry reach and Asleep at the Wheel.
If you can't see the difference between killing him for everything instead of both criticizing him and praising him then you are as fucking stupid as I think for bitching about a 5th round "reach".
jeff57 - name the last fucking post you had that said anything positive about Reese. If you can't, then it is you who is the idiot, not the "apologists" or "supporters".

The Giants have been lousy for three straight seasons. Therefore the reality-based position is to be more critical than praising of Reese. Yet you never criticize him. Why is that?
AA has caught my attention in a couple of pre season games. He has a nose for the ball and is always trying to make plays. I noticed him in one game stripping the ball out when an opponent was stood up. The play did not stand but I thought I saw Spags coaching him up. Reminds me a bit of Will Hill hopefully without the troubles. Good Call.
I said just last week that part of the reason we are paying for having to fill holes are the poor drafts a few years ago. I said that Reese should have taken a look at TE's over the offseason.
But I don't sit here every post and make it about Reese. Try and find jeff discussing ANYTHING on BBI that doesn't get punted back to Reese being at fault.
There are actually posters who don't think everything is rosy, but they don't shit on the team every chance they can. You're probably too busy being a smarmy prick to notice.
To an extent I agree, but you also need to consider that drafting a player late is also a way of securing his services.
One time, okay. Three times over the space of a couple of years? Not okay.
Accorsi squeezed in 3 "5th Round Reaches" (can this now be in BBI vernacular?) in a span of two years with Nick Greison, John Markam, and Jonathan Carter. FIRE REESE! ACCORSI!
i have to admit, i was pretty psyched about Cooper Taylor after Sehorn compared him to himself after we drafted him. Sapp compared Marvin Austin to himself, too...
I've given up buying into comments like that from former star players about prospects. Players aren't scouts. There was even a young guy who LT said reminded him of himself. And that player ended up so inconsequential, I can't even remember who it was.
To an extent I agree, but you also need to consider that drafting a player late is also a way of securing his services.

Hey Nick Griesen was decent.
You're right, I take Greisen back. He had a decent career. My point remains that it's slim pickings this far back in the draft. It's the part of the draft where teams roll the dice and look past some red flags for who they think can be the best player. A lot of the times there will be whiffs.
adams has been looking good, however, saw him more as a free safety
The #Giants also released WR K.J. Maye and CB Joe Powell, per sources. Maye flashed at times. Saw some potential.
2013 Draft - ( New Window )
It's not that unusual to waive a PS-ticketed player in the first round of cuts. I think they did it last year with Will Tye.

No one's answered my question: Did Jackson ever get back to healthy? Pre-injury, they seemed to be quite high on him last preseason
LOL. The goalposts continue to move.

And before everybody pisses on the front office, remember that Taylor and Jackson were beaten out by D. Thompson, M. Thompson, Behre and Collins -- all draft picks.
That's it.
i have to admit, i was pretty psyched about Cooper Taylor after Sehorn compared him to himself after we drafted him. Sapp compared Marvin Austin to himself, too..
Byron Stingily, Bennett Jackson and Cooper Taylor among the 11 moves today as #Giants get to 75.
TE Ryan Malleck waived injured.
#Giants cuts: S Cooper Taylor, T Byron Stingily, DB Bennett Jackson, RB Marshaun Coprich; WRs K.J. Maye, Kadron Boone; DB Joe Powell ...
More #Giants cuts: OL Shane McDermott; DTs Davon Coleman, Greg Milhouse; DE Mike Rose. And TE Ryan Malleck waived/injured with burner

FIRE REESE! ACCORSI!
Hey Nick Griesen was decent.
I've given up buying into comments like that from former star players about prospects. Players aren't scouts. There was even a young guy who LT said reminded him of himself. And that player ended up so inconsequential, I can't even remember who it was.

You're right, I take Greisen back. He had a decent career. My point remains that it's slim pickings this far back in the draft. It's the part of the draft where teams roll the dice and look past some red flags for who they think can be the best player. A lot of the times there will be whiffs.
