Roster Moves

*The Giants today made 12 transactions to get under the roster limit of 75 players that all teams needed to reach by 4 p.m. today.

Only two of the players have NFL regular-season experience: safety Cooper Taylor and tackle Byron Stingily. Taylor, who was waived, was the Giants� 2013 fifth-round draft choice who played in 16 games, including six last season. Stingily, who was placed on injured reserve with a concussion, played in 20 games with nine starts for Tennessee and Pittsburgh from 2012-15.

Third-year defensive back Bennett Jackson, a 2014 sixth-round draft choice who missed each of the last two years after undergoing knee surgery, was waived.

The Giants also released eight rookie and first-year free agents: running back Marshaun Coprich; wide receivers K.J. Maye and Kadron Boone; cornerback Joe Powell; offensive lineman Shane McDermott; defensive tackles Davon Coleman and Greg Milhouse; and defensive end Mike Rose.

Tight end Ryan Malleck, another rookie free agent, was waived/injured with a burner. He is the second tight end in as many days to be waived/injured, joining Matt LaCosse (knee).

September 3: Prior to 4:00PM, clubs must reduce rosters to a maximum of 53 players.

September 4: Clubs may establish a Practice Squad of 10 players.

But do you think we keep 3 DTs with some of these other guys on the PS just in case? I say no but if we just kept Snacks, Hankins, and Bromley that leaves us with 3 guys that can fill up the inside. If Snacks gets hurt we move Hankins to the 1 and Bromley plays the 3. If Hankins gets hurt Bromley moves to the 3. If Bromley gets hurt we have Snacks at the 1 and Hank at the 3. We may keep more than 4 DEs with guys like Odi playing inside on passing situations. So, we should be able to get through a game with those players and have other DTs ready to jump up to the active roster from the practice squad. Like I said, it isn't likely to happen but McAdoo said there are no limits on players at each position

when Snacks was out, you kind of figured he was something special. He has been moving down the depth chart instead of up. Seems like the perfect practice squad guy. Hasn't played at a high level, getting the experience of a year of conditioning and practice experience and he might be something.

Jackson and Taylor are the only real "surprises"

They normally activate 4 on the 46-man. Nix was Pat Traina's guess, Cudjo got the most snaps of the backups against the Jets. Hughes got some good notices during camp. Who knows.

Giants apparently liked Nix in the draft. The Texans traded up in the third round to get him IIRC, and then gave up on him after only a year. Their coach called him out for his lack of effort. But he had injuries, and has apparently lost weight. It could be he knows that it's now or never.

They couldn't have liked him that much. They drafted Jay Bromley with Nix still on the board.

Maybe they just liked Bromley more.
