Amani Toomer in post game show just blasted TC

baadbill : 9/11/2016 7:45 pm
... saying Giants "got rid" of Coughlin and "it's nice to see it pay dividends in the very first game" winning a close one they lost last year.

I'm really shocked. Why would Toomer go out of his way to take a direct shot at Coughlin? No need to do that. No reason to do that. I always liked Toomer but, geez, what an asshole.

I think using time was the priority on that play. If they passed and it was incomplete they would have probably had time to win it at the end considering how close they came before time ran out.

I think he was smartly disciplined in that moment. Impressive for a rookie coaches first game.

but there is some truth in it coughlin didnt understand the current way the game is played now he was using the parcells rules from 86-90 on game management but he didnt have the greatest defensive player in the history of the game to cover for failing in clock management that parcells did that defence was special and LT was on a different planet from every other defensive player in the league and had a strong supporting cast around him

they also did have the full IR squad this year with coughlin gone either we always wondered if the injury carnage every year was bad luck or coughlin and so far appears to be coughlin thou its fair to say could be the evening out of bad luck too time will tell

Toomer had way more issues working with Fassel. I thought he liked, or at least respected Coughlin.

In any case, I don't think anything about today's game is proof that Coughlin needed to go. Guys executed today. Last year, they didn't. Name one time last season when we called on the running game to close a game out, and they actually delivered.
Punting on 4th and 1 was absolutley the right call
BlackLight : 9/11/2016 8:54 pm : link
And not just taking the outcome into account. Just think of what Dallas's offense could've done on that last drive, had they an 35 seconds to work with.

Why is coughlin even a topic today?

Because Toomer is petty enough to bring him up in and interview after Mcadoo's first win.
Toomer Tries to be Controversial,

boost his analyst street cred but he just comes as pathetic and bizarre. This is similar to his comment touting Romo as a better QB than Eli. We'll never know, but give TC the roster on the field today and he probably does well. Not taking anything away from McAdoo. His playing calling was very good. The team was poised and organized.

I had NO CHANCE of blowing it today! Find another moniker for McAdoo.
Ivan - Romo may have scored on the last drive, but

Yeah I agree with you that with this roster they probably win if TC is still HC. But honestly who cares at this point.

The Ben McAdoo era has begun. That's all we fans should care about. TC will always be part of great Giant tradition and history but he is just that at this point part of their history. I'm looking forward to watching McAdoo's career as Giant HC unfold. it is an exciting time for a fan.
I think Toomer's comment was bizzarre ... no reason to go there

Or how about this: his decision won the game because they left Dallas with their rookie QB who has never run an end game 2 minute drill in his NFL life not enough time by running the ball and killing clock...

I'm 27 so Coughlin has been our coach for almost half my life. I absolutely love Coughlin. I completely agree with Toomer. Coughlin made a lot of calls last year that led to losses.

Also according to Walter Thurmond Coughlin was against modern medicine & that led to so many injuries. As of right now he seems to be correct.

Because there was no reason at all to say it. Why be a fucking prick when you don't have to be?

He is paid to analyze games. He shouldn't say what he thinks?

It was clearly time for Coughlin to go. Nothing wrong with saying that. And the Giants did get rid of Coughlin. You have to be incredibly naive to believe that he left of his own free will.
Giants fans can be such pussies when it comes to Coughlin and Eli
Sonic Youth : 9/12/2016 1:23 am : link
Toomer is a commentator, He is allowed to have his opinion. I have zero issues with what he said, and I love Coughlin - but every coach has his time he needs to go.

Romo would have won the game?
bc4life : 9/12/2016 7:06 am : link
Don't know how you can say that. One of the problems the Giants had was that they had to be careful rushing Prescott because of his mobility. They wouldn't have had to worry about that with Romo.
I thought it was a little harsh
giantsfan227B : 9/12/2016 9:12 am : link
But my final take was he was saying, the Giants fired the coach because of 5 losses inside 2 minutes and you want to see dividends with that move. If the Giants would have lost on a last second FG you could make an argument what was the point of changing coaches.

I have never gotten the opinion Toomer was a big TC fan but in general they want to see the team win and I think a lot of the players that do commentary feel TC got too long of a leash for his 2 SB's.

I agree with you on Toomer. However, Tiki was something else completely. He discussed things that were said in the locker room and spoke for other players. Putting words in other players' mouths.

There are plenty of players who become commentators. They comment fairly on the game. They don't reveal things that were considered to be private. Players don't even do that when they change teams !
