Better Giant: Dave Brown, Danny Kanell, or Kent Graham

bigbluewreckingcrew25 : 9/14/2016 1:45 pm
Brown: 8,806 passing yards, 40 TDs, 49 Ints, 54.6 Completion %

Kanell: 3,570 passing yards, 23 TDs, 20 Ints, 51.4 Completion %

Graham: 3,760 passing yards, 20 TDs, 20 Ints, 51.8 Completion %

You have to pick one

Put Graham's arm on Kanell's body and you might have gotten Phil Simms 2.

Tallest midget contest?
trueblueinpw : 9/14/2016 2:17 pm : link
Well, I thought that Dave Brown was pretty much a wasted pick. Beaker was a guy who I thought had some energy and maybe won a few games for us. DKNY, well, wasn't he pretty much out to manage the game and not do anything stupid?

I guess for me I'll vote Kent Graham as the tallest midget. Man, those were some dark days.
I have to go with Kent Graham as well.

Dave Brown has had a very successful career in the Private Equity industry. He is well respected. He ran Greenhill and is now at Moelis. He works near me in midtown. I often see him near my office. His group is well respected and well known in our industry.

He's not as dumb as some people think...
I am picking Dave Brown...
Chris in Philly : 9/14/2016 2:59 pm : link
because he trucked Deion Sanders.

And really, because he was a nice guy that was set up for failure by a coach that didn't want him. He never had a chance and he deserved better.

manh george : 9/14/2016 3:10 pm : link
For one thing, a stadium without swirling winds that turned his sideline throws into adventures. An OL and wrs would have been nice, too.

Given all of that, I probably go with Graham, but not by much.
What is this, 1994?

I don't think anyone thought Brown was dumb
Greg from LI : 9/14/2016 3:16 pm : link
He just wasn't a good quarterback.

It's kind of a sad story - kid from NJ gets drafted to be the QB of his favorite team, but struggles mightily and and becomes a magnet for booing.

That's why I'm relishing every moment of Eli's final years. Cause we can once again have to relive the 90's.
I always had a soft spot for Brown.
NorwoodWideRight : 9/14/2016 4:31 pm : link
I probably liked him a little more than I cursed him while watching him on TV. He had no line, nobody who could catch and his favorite thing to do was drop back 10 yards in an effort to avoid never-ending sacks. Still, slightly more exciting than the run, run, pass, punt that would come after Reeves' tenure.
Poor Dave Brown hands down
GeorgeAdams33 : 9/14/2016 5:00 pm : link
1) The poor guy was born lefty and forced to throw right handed by his own father. It real showed when he was trying to throw a deep out to his left.

2) The poor guy was coached at Duke U. by Steve Spurrier, who routinely ruined young QBs with his hasty decisions to pull them, rotate them, bench them, and then turn around and expect them to behave like the phoenix rising to the occasion when needed to save the team. Kinda like the army; tear you down and build you up...

3) The poor guy was over drafted by George Young. Young spent what ended up being the 10th pick in the draft to take Brown in the supplemental circus.

4) Double the pressure since the poor guy was raised in Westfield, NJ about 30 minutes from Giants stadium.

5) Triple the pressure since he followed Simms & Hostetler.

Too much was expected of Dave Brown. I always hated that he'd bitch openly on the field and throw teammates under the bus, but he was under tremendous pressure. My perception was that Kent Graham was not a good teammate. He was drafted in the 8th round the same year we got Brown and he always had a chip on his shoulder about it.

Nobody was a bigger prick than the soulless noodle arm, Danny Kanell.

if only for that Broncos game. And at least when he was playing you felt like maybe, just maybe, he had a chance to pull out a gutty win, which was never the case with Brown and even Kanell (though obviously he did win some).
That stretch of QBs still haunts me and

colors my view about the team. For example, I'm petrified about what will happen when Eli retires. Will Odell's best years be wasted with a stream of crappy QBs?

jnoble : 9/14/2016 8:27 pm : link
Brown had the size and toughness, Kannell had a better feel for the game (at least initially until he lost his confidence) and Kent had a cannon arm. But none had all three.
He wasn't a great QB for us but I always had a soft spot for Dave B as the perennial underdog who never had a good Oline or WRs or a game plan to work with.

I always liked Randy Dean. I think Scott Hunter was in the mix earlier in the 70s. I moved to Wisconsin in 1971. The first game of the season was the Green Bay Packers vs the Giants at Lambeau. We desperately needed an Offensive Lineman and a cornerback. As the preseason came to an end, we gave up a #1 draft choice for OL Bob Hyland and CB Bennie MacRae to the Bears. That first game was wild with Giants scoring two TD's recovering kickoff fumbles by the Packers in the end zone. Scott Hunter was a rookie QB for the Packers that day and the Packers crawled back but the Giants did prevail 42-40. It was also the debut of former University of Missouri Head Coach as the new Packer Head Coach. He was hated by the Packer players because he made them watch U of M highlights for motivation. Bob Hyland welcomed Devine to the NFL by wiping him out on the sideline breaking Devine's leg.

Yeah, I googled it, and apparently he was married before Harmon. Didn't know that or about this situation at all since I was just a young'in in this time period. Poor Sehorn. Makes me dislike Kannell even more than I already did, even though it's obviously not all on him. Takes two to slam-dance.

He indeed made a good play, as did Toomer on the punt return td. Kanell made some throws from time to time, 3 tds at Philly. My basic point was, other than Dave Brown, and only because he was shell shocked a good portion of qbs could would have done what he did or better. The main reason he got the job done in my opinion was because, one, he hadn't been exposed to a beating, so he had confidence. And two he knew his role and was ok with it. I feel Graham would have done the job, and probably better.

50% of BBI misspelled Kanell as "Kannel" for a long time, even after he was gone. Very annoying, and I blame the player.

She was on Howard Stern (not sure if anymore heard it), and said that she and Sehorn didn't fuck for their first five years together. She also knocked his intelligence. This is from a person who's essentially a media personality that comments on love and relationships.

So let's get this straight, you don't fuck the guy you're marrying, but you'll bang his best friend.

I'll pick Kent
JohnF : 9/15/2016 10:10 pm : link
I was an Albany Firebird season ticket holder when the Giants came to Albany, and I saw better Arena QB's more accurate than Dave Brown, and almost all of them with better arms than Kanell.

I'm still physically ill over the fact I would go to a Giants practice, watch Brown, and then go see Kurt Warner (Iowa Barnstormers) play the Firebirds the same day at the old Knickerbocker Arena. If only....

Speaking of Arena guys who were better than Brown, you might be familiar with this guy:
