With all the talk on our current safeties, another post triggered me to think about all the Giants safeties throughout the year. So... Who do you have as the best safety duo in Giants history? Not necessarily the best player, but the best duo.
Of the Troy Polamalu/Earl Thomas mold. Neither S. Williams nor K. Phillips turned out that way. Landon Collins won't be that. Maybe D. Thompson has a shot.
About the potential of the young guys we have now. I really thought safety was going to be our strength when we had Rolle, Phillips and Brown coming off of an 8 interception season a couple of years ago. Then Phillips no longer had a working knee, Brown got hurt and then was horrible and Rolle was starting to get old.
Tunnell and Patton. Tunnell is the only Giants safety in the Hall of Fame. Dick Lynch, Willie Williams and Henry Carr were all CBs. Allen Webb was the safety opposite Patton in the early 60's

Patton was great, for the life of me I still doj't understand how he is not in the giants ring of Honor, and he certainly would be worthy of a bust in Canton as well. But he came along as Tunnell was slowing down and missed his prime. Patton's heyday I think was probably playing alongside Dick Nolan.
Lockhart playing safety. I thought he was a corner.
Another mind trip....no matter how often I read that Katcavage with the left def.end and Robestelli the right, in my mind I have it reversed. The picture of Andy R. rushing from the bottom of the b&w tv screen (when the defense was facing left) is so vivid that I can't erase it.
I am prepared to trust my memory and say the entire world is wrong...I can even see the swim move and in a beautiful b&w drawing that a gasoline company gave away for free I can see that front four lined up and waiting for the huddle to break and A.R. is in the left end position and Kat in the right.
It's as if I missed Joe Morrison. When I saw him in the Giant Ring of honor "what do they mean Joe Morris?" I remember him as a indistinquishable journeyman, only able to make the team as versatile who wasn't good enough to have a full time position but could fill in when a regular went down. Obviously he was more than that, but I lived and breathed with that team, and it's scary. If I'm that wrong on football things, are there ohter things my mind has remembered incorrectly.?
...as a Giants safety tandem. Individually they weren't the best, though they were quite good. Together they are #1 as a team that I've watched back there.
29 Myron Guyton
47 Greg Jackson
They (within 1990 rules) beat the crap out of Buffalo's receivers in the Super Bowl.
2011 Ant. Rolle, Kenny Phillips
One of those few questions that is just about "inarguable".
By the way, I think if Phillips had not gotten hurt, he would have been a star free safety
till i read other peoples comments
Spider was one of my all time favorite Giants.
Never really played with anyone on his level imo

Agree on Tunnell and Patton.

Harmon Rowe, Otto Schnellbacher, Emlen Tunnell, Tom Landry
He was also an excellent kick returner.
