Eli was very accurate today, stood tough and made great throws. His receivers need to be better. His OL needs to be better. Great game from Shepard, Vereen and Cruz made up for his blunders with that great fight for the ball.
Defense though was something special. Oh boy most NFL people thought it would take a few games for this defense to come together. They will only get better.
Get Beatty up to speed pronto. Don't care what anyone says.
I was happy with everything in the game with the exception of
- Turnovers
- Red Zone Offense
- Ground game
I thought both teams played well and tackled well.
I have seen our 4 Super Bowl teams and every one had some ugly wins where the Offense was non-existent. Today our Offense was pretty good but mistake prone and will get much better as the season progresses.
Hats off to the Defense .....
Run game is still brutal OBJ was pretty much handled maybe
he stops being the celebrity and saves his energy for
the game he just has not looked explosive this year .
Shepard gets the Game ball ...
Cruz looks to be back . Wasn't crazy about the game calls
the turnovers kept the Saints in the game ...
We were luck to get a W but its a great Win none the less.
We will see an angry Skins team next week .
I say we Bury them .
Last time we had 3 good WRS we did some damage. Both Cruz and OBJ had some misses but also some grabs lesser players don't get close to catching. And Shep is a baller in game 2 of his career.
couldn't run at all, but still would have won comfortably without the turnovers, dropped passes, and inexplicable first down running that produced nothing. The good news is that Beatty should help the OL, and all the rest can be corrected.
But No offensive TDs today?! Amazing........We had opportunities but blew a few Red Zone ops.
OBJ with 2 big drops today too. Not normal for him, as if he was distracted. I sure hope he takes care of business next week instead of letting Norman get into his head.
Cruz with an up and down game, however, he looks like he is still a very good receiver and we certainly need him.
Sterling Shepard was fantastic today and I think this is what we'll see from him this year.
Defense was outstanding all day. We couldn't do much better then that, just a phenomenal performance by our D. If I can be nitpicky though, I would like to see more pressure from our front 4. It seemed like our only pressure came from blitzes.
Specials were also very good today, except for a missed 53 yard FG, but they are certainly not a given.
Saints actually had great field position for most of this game due to turnovers their D got and a great punting effort. I think Harris only had one return for the game.
We need to score when we are in the red zone. Not a fan of the amount of times we tried running the ball and did nothing. We have 3 good Wrs, I'd like us to be less conservative. It's amazing how much production we had today and yet no passing Tds for Eli.
1) The offense overall wasn't as bad as many are saying. They moved the ball. They shot themselves in gthe foot with the Cruz fumble, 3 huge drops, and those back to back holds. The Manning fumble really should have been overturned. OBJ had a decent game, but those 2 drops were 14 points.
2) I love that Vereen is getting more touches this year.
3) Why did they bring in Darkwa when they did?
4) Apple is the real deal.
5) This is the best tackling D we've had in at least a decade.
6) Some more of a pass rush would have been nice.
7) Bottom line, especially after last year, a win is a win is a win.
McAdoo about going for it on 4th: "I'd do it again"
Why are we saying this?? I don't get it...aside from the turnovers obviously. We can say the goal line stand sucked but whats so bad about completing nearly every pass and 415+ yards? Don't turn it over and they win by 2 tds
Gave up 2 TD so far. Holding one of the top O's to 13 puts. Love it, we don't win this type of game last ear. O will pull it together - the future is looking good so far.
It worked out exactly as you see it calculating the risk early in the game. Either we make it, or if we don't score, we hem them in and hold them . We held them, but the guy did get off a huge punt. I liked it at that point in the game.

The Oline is ok, Newhouse got destroyed today. However what killed the offense is mistakes by key players
Cruz fumble.
Beckham drop was a TD. ( deep ball ).

me too. when you D is playing well you have great chance to get the ball back with a short field even if you fail on the 4th down score.
But I think it was criminal to not use Jennig in the goal line the two times you were there with a full three downs. It made no sense, to go with those shotgun draws with your smallest RB. How do you not put in your power back and just pound to in. They didn't even try. Hopefully
McAdoo learns how to better use his RBs in this situation, 100% of the time you Give it to your bruiser on the goal line if your running it.
a lot of it deserved he did a phenomenal job this offseason rebuilding this defense plus has done a great job in the draft over the past 3 years as well. Look at all the talent they have brought in over the past 3 years
Draft: Beckham, Richburg, Apple, Shepherd, Thompson, Bromley, Kennard, Berhe, Flowers, Collins, Odi, Hart, Goodson, Perkins, Adams
Free agency: DRC, Harrison, Vernon, Jenkins, Casillas, Robinson, Wynn, Hall, Tye, Harris, Jerry, Newhouse, Jennings, Vereen
Im not happy with how this Giants offensive is flowing. To many weapons including Odell to ve struggling against a bad Saints defense??! Not excuses. The offensive gameplan and oline must improve.
What do you think the odds would have been for a Giant victory if I told you before the game that the turnover ratio would be -3 and the Giant offense would not score a touchdown? Pretty long odds I'd say. Feels good to be 2-0. It's been awhile.
Bottom of line though is Donnell dropped a touchdown, Cruz got mauled on a pass in the end zone and no call, Cruz overestimated himself on yards after catch and fumbled, Beckham dropped a perfect pass in the bucket.
We deserved to win that game, and in the end...we did.
would hold the Saints to 1 touchdown and less than 300 total yards? The run defense is punishing.
And, you know what? I don't think JPP did much in this game and Vernon was virtually invisible. Imagine if these guys start dominating. It could get scary.
(Besides Eli). Both played mediocre games, especially Vernon who was invisible. Yet we won and it should've been a comfortable win.

Did you actually watch the game?
Becham had a horrific game today. I dont even know how that can be questioned.

Maybe you need to learn the definition of the word?
Great....no
He was ok.....
If Rueben Randle dropped 2 TDs like OBJ did this week and put up some yards...everyone on BBI would say he was atrocious. We have to be consistent here. He had 2 chances to score.... dropped both.
Kept letting them hang around and we finally won it on a short FG.
I disagree. I think I remember that game and I think we played poorly on defense in that game, despite them not scoring that much. I think we played much better defensively today.
but after last weeks game, I thought Mc would somewhat feature Shepard, and hopeful he would have a good game, which he did.
Other than the apparent point killing turnovers, the passing O is playing out perfectly. Mc is featuring Shepard and Cruz which takes pressure off, OBJ AND puts pressure on future DCs in coverages.
I expect OBJ and also the use of Vereen(swing passes) to be featured next week. If that goes well, which I both hope and expect, the NFL will be on notice that the Giants are to be reckoned with.
3 fumbles is what made it come down to the last minute. Should have won going away. Running game terrible today. But, in the end won. Gotta pick it up, against better opponent's.

fair point.
Does this team need a running back who can get around the corner?
Seems like ever since Larry Csonka and Mercury Morris that it's been the rule that a team should have at least one threat to turn the corner, else the other team's defensive front can just concentrate itself more in the center and the defensive backs have easier run support responsibilities.
RE: RE: RE: RE: RE: Odell and Vernon are our two best players
NOnteam has been a pain for us for years. We beat them. Plus I think the offense was not fully engaged. By that I mean they looked at the NO defensive backs and thought this was going to be a easy game for us. Plus I think they kinda was looking at the skins game a little too much. But w all that we dominated this game. If it wasn't for all the dumb mistakes, it's not close. Let's cekebrate this and get ready for the skins!!!
exactly. We should expect more from OBJ for how great he is.
Not my meaning.
Treating OBJ the same as Randle is beyond foolish. The same standard doesn't apply to everyone. Much should be expected from Beckham, but nitpicking when he doesn't make every play is too petty for my taste. You know at the end of the year he's going to give to 10 TDs and 1200+ yards.

But he is good enough to do better than that. Instead of 1200/10..... maybe t should be 1500/15. We should expect more from our best.

without the benefit of all of the camera angles and replays. However, this is what I saw....
Agree with the comments about the defense and the general comments on the offense. This is what I saw...
1. We are unable to consistently move the chains. We get a long pass every couple of drives but then stall.
2. The offensive line continues to be a problem. No consistency in the run game and too many penalties.
3. Eli has not been accurate during the first two games. There are too many passes that he is so far off of the mark that the receiver cannot get two hands on the ball. This has stalled drives too.
4. Play calling needs to be improved as well. For me it is also play design.
I am as happy as the rest of you that we are 2-0. That is huge and gives us a big head start in the division. That being said, we will not compete against the better teams in the league with the way this offense is playing right now. We have played two teams that are weak on defense and we have two total offensive TDs against them.
Now... lets bury the Redskins next week. They are 0-2 and will be fighting for their lives.
But that's 2 weeks in a row against supposed weak defenses that our offense has looked terrible. Again happy for the win, but I am still concerned.
And I am so, SO sick of the shotgun draw... lol
They were atrocious today, with the mistakes made, but the offense really didn't look terrible in week one -- they had a down third quarter, but they mostly just had limited opportunities due to Dallas dominating the clock.
on Eli's accuracy today. I'm a bit tough on Eli but the receivers had more to do with the incompletes than Eli. To me, aside from the sideline pass in the 3rd qtr to VC which seemed high and wide, he had a very accurate day. Aside from Shepard (8 of 8) they all dropped passes - some the DBs got lucky no PI was called.
3. Eli has not been accurate during the first two games. There are too many passes that he is so far off of the mark that the receiver cannot get two hands on the ball. This has stalled drives too.
Eli had 9 incompletions out of 41 attempts today, with four drops and a throw away (per FO). There wasn't a lot of twisting and contorting out there either on the completions, outside of Cruz's one at the end (which was a typical QB throwing the ball up for his WR to make a play deal).
If you're looking for appreciably greater accuracy, at least on the plays they're running and types of throws being attempted, I'm not sure there's a QB in existence for you.
interesting what he can do when he has some players. Defense is playing with conviction, tackling has been good, players in position, very few blown assignments.
Saints defense was overmatched and it played hard and well. Too bad Rob Ryan isn't still the coordinator.
% has to do with the system we run vs the accuracy of the QB so to speak. Just look at Dak P. and the cowboys and what they are trying to do. What was he 22/30 today? Does that mean he is accurate? fuck no, it's the way they run their scheme to limit the burden on him as a rookie.
38 of them, the receivers had two hands on the ball.
LOL. WOW. Those 3 incompletions must have been really inaccurate.
Yes his accuracy improved today vs the prior week. My original comment above is about the first TWO games. He did have 2 drive killing misses today. Much better than last week where he was way off. Please do not mis-interpret what I am saying. The offensive struggles are NOT Eli's fault. Just that at times he does this and when the offensive line is a huge problem, we need Eli to be flawless.

There were 4 drops last week out of his 9 incompletions. So again, your way off statement is quite silly. Ill have to rewatch which 2 misses were inaccurate that ended drives. I think your statement about today is absolutely ludicrous. He made some throws on 3rd down that were dropped that were unbelievable.

TWO games:
Eli Manning: 51/69, 74% completion percentage, 575 yards, 3 TD's, 1 INT, Quarterback Ratings of 110.3 and 104.1 respectively.
The offense will be fine. Sometimes it's just bad luck and these are things that can be corrected. I feel that we got a bad call a couple of times ( Eli fumble, No call on Cruz mugging). I believe the coach should of kicked a field goal instead of going for it. We have to remember it is a rookie coach and he is learning about his team as well as the players. We should have given the ball to Jennings three straight times. With him on the sidelines they new what we were going to do. Shepard is awesome and Cruz is back. Correct me if I'm wrong but Odel started a little slow as far as touchdowns last year too. We still haven't played a real strong team yet and won't get away with these errors with one. A little surprised that we haven't got any turnovers which worry me a little. Awesome to be 2 and 0!!!
I was pumped after the win and then I read some of this thread. Winning in the NFL is really hard. Good teams win games even when they don't play well. Bring on the Redskins!

Eli has been very accurate. Not a good point by you at all.
Who'd thunk a low scoring game..only 1 offensive td between the two.
What a difference the defense is..being there and seeing it live. They hit their run fits..around the ball..good technique..hit...aggressive. everything we havent seen in a few years here.
Any word/update on the injured saint player..scary as he did not move at all.
Cruz..still battling..im happy for him..seems to have a chip on shoulder.

PJ Williams was ok - concussion, but was moving and breathing ok. He was up for x-rays or CT scan of the neck, but it was believed he would make it home on the team plane. Was momentarily knocked out.

Wow..thats great news..thanks section for update..it really looked bad..everyone jumped up waving their arms for some help right immediately after play..great news
The only criticism (not even a criticism really) I have of Coach McAdoo is how sticks with Donnell and Tye even when they're not playing well. I'd like to see what Jerell Adams can do. He's probably a better blocker than both (though that's not saying much) and he's very underrated in the passing game. He's probably faster than both, just as big as Donnell (and bigger than Tye) and while his hands may not be as good as either of them, it's not a huge drop-off.
The run game the O-line thats a area to be concerned with .
Even the the runs that gained yardage was more so on
the elusive gritty runs by Vereen .
Newhouse is not great that we know but he is our starter .
we are seriously thin there .
You're right rally looking for things to complain about
would lose and drive Giants fans crazy in the process. If only we hadn't had three fumbles, a dropped TD pass, a missed field goal, and untimely penalties, we might have won the damn game. But wait. We did win the damn game.
IMO, it would take some really lousy play to be worse then Donnell. We did see the first Donnell falling on his head today. I am certain there will be more to come.

And one catch after the patented bobble. Probably more of those to come, too. Just hope they don't lead to turnovers.
I missed Q1 because I was coming home from a wedding
but quarters 2 through 4 Eli looked incredible. The throw on the run to his left like 30 yards down the field to Cruz? Perfectly placed. The penultimate throw of the game to Beckham? Perfectly placed. Both were huge gains that probably should have been caught.
He moved well in the pocket (for Eli) and took two sacks instead of forcing it. I can't believe anyone is criticizing him based on what I saw and the stat line. What other pocket-passing QB would have done better than Eli today?
A win is a win.
Money does solve all problems!
Nice little win.
That's all the matter.

Guys have to win their matchups.
Donnell matched up 1 on 1, drops a ball in his hands.
Beckham matched up 1 on 1, drops a ball in his hands. The calls were absolutely fine.
The insistence on running the ball was mind-numbingly stupid.
The defense played as well as humanly possible in the absence of front four pass rush.
NO MORE LARRY DONNELL.
tight ends
Drops

One of the worse called games on Offense I have seen in awhile. Way too conservative
Yes Eli really had a good day throwing. Handful of drops, handful of non-PI calls and still 368 yds and another 100+ QB rating.
OBJ with 2 big drops today too. Not normal for him, as if he was distracted. I sure hope he takes care of business next week instead of letting Norman get into his head.

I think Moose brought it up or hinted at it. I was with everyone here at BBI about the knee, but would have kicked on 3rd down.

I tell you if the Giants would have lost this game. Sports radio in NYC would have their story line for the week.
I can hear Francesa now
'You neva tak points off da bhord!'

If Rueben Randle dropped 2 TDs like OBJ did this week and put up some yards...everyone on BBI would say he was atrocious. We have to be consistent here. He had 2 chances to score.... dropped both.
fair point.

(Besides Eli). Both played mediocre games, especially Vernon who was invisible. Yet we won and it should've been a comfortable win.
We have depth, we have an actual team this year.
Odell had 8 catches for over 80 yds
Invisible?
Did you actually watch the game?
Becham had a horrific game today. I dont even know how that can be questioned.
Horrific?
Maybe you need to learn the definition of the word?
Great....no
He was ok.....

The lowest common denominator shouldn't be the standard you're aiming for.
Not my meaning.
Treating OBJ the same as Randle is beyond foolish. The same standard doesn't apply to everyone. Much should be expected from Beckham, but nitpicking when he doesn't make every play is too petty for my taste. You know at the end of the year he's going to give to 10 TDs and 1200+ yards.

exactly. We should expect more from OBJ for how great he is.

But he is good enough to do better than that. Instead of 1200/10..... maybe t should be 1500/15. We should expect more from our best.
McAdoo learns how to better use his RBs in this situation, 100% of the time you Give it to your bruiser on the goal line if your running it.
It's never a crime to not use Jennings.
And I am so, SO sick of the shotgun draw... lol
Banks called it on radio.

They were atrocious today, with the mistakes made, but the offense really didn't look terrible in week one -- they had a down third quarter, but they mostly just had limited opportunities due to Dallas dominating the clock.
How was halftime? Did they have players from the '86 team?
Eli had 9 incompletions out of 41 attempts today, with four drops and a throw away (per FO). There wasn't a lot of twisting and contorting out there either on the completions, outside of Cruz's one at the end (which was a typical QB throwing the ball up for his WR to make a play deal).
If you're looking for appreciably greater accuracy, at least on the plays they're running and types of throws being attempted, I'm not sure there's a QB in existence for you.
Saints defense was overmatched and it played hard and well. Too bad Rob Ryan isn't still the coordinator.
OBJ had a horrible game? He had 8 catches for 86 yards and drew two pass interference penalties deep.
Eli inaccurate today? Didn't he complete 78% of his passes today?
LOL. WOW. Those 3 incompletions must have been really inaccurate.

Carson, Banks, Martin, and Bavaro. I think LT was watching from Tootsie's in Miami.

38 of them, the receivers had two hands on the ball.

Eli has been very accurate. Not a good point by you at all.

Who'd thunk a low scoring game..only 1 offensive td between the two.

Wow..thats great news..thanks section for update..it really looked bad..everyone jumped up waving their arms for some help right immediately after play..great news
He's been amazing so far. The only questionable throw I've seen him make was the Brandon Carr INT and that may not have even been his fault.
Even the the runs that gained yardage was more so on
the elusive gritty runs by Vereen .
Newhouse is not great that we know but he is our starter .
we are seriously thin there .
So it's been said, but IDK, I'd like to hear it from Big Ben himself. Maybe it's not just the mental aspect? IDK
@DDuggan21
Looking at my notes, seven of Eli Manning's nine incompletions were dropped/could have been caught.

He was very inaccurate though.
What does he do well that doesnt deserve criticism?
Beckum hasn't been on the team in years.
And one catch after the patented bobble. Probably more of those to come, too. Just hope they don't lead to turnovers.
He moved well in the pocket (for Eli) and took two sacks instead of forcing it. I can't believe anyone is criticizing him based on what I saw and the stat line. What other pocket-passing QB would have done better than Eli today?
The passing game is dink and dunk. just can't get fully behind the WCO and this is not a good version of it IMO
Teams are not going to let OBJ break the game. They're just not. And as solid as Jennings is, he's not scaring anyone.
