Reese's first two rounds from 2013 on

Essex : 9/19/2016 9:46 am
2013-Pugh, Hankins
2014-OBJ, Richburg
2015-Flowers, Collins
2016-Apple, Shepard

Flowers is probably the worst pick of the bunch and he is a starting LT (with room to improve), but each player is good to excellent. So, while we bash him for some late round misses (which is a crapshoot anyway), he seems to be doing a good job scouting the higher graded players. Put that in your pipe Raanan!
Where have all the Eli Apple haters gone?

people look so hard for something to complain about that either in one of the game discussions or in a separate thread yesterday, there was a protracted debate about Apple not turning around to cover and how he's a penalty flag waiting to happen.

so now when a guy makes a good play, we even bitch about that. And god forgive if Beckham drops a pass!
Yup - the

2013 was solid with Pugh, but the second round pick of Hankins was a grandslam HR

2014 was back to back grand slam homeruns. OBJ possibly the best WR in the NFL and Richburg, possibly the best center in the NFL

2015 getting Landon Collins in the 2nd round was a ridiculous steal. The man is a tackling machine with an attitude - and has the football IQ of Einstein. He was not only the top safety in the draft, but possibly a top 5 overall player.

I like what we did this past draft as well and think we nailed it. Time will tell, but Apple and Shepard are already proving themselves to anyone who had doubts.

Yep. Oh, and remember about 3 weeks ago how Landon Collins was a bust?
I'm not sold on Richburg quite yet.
GiantGolfer : 9/19/2016 10:18 am : link
He's been blown up and run over a couple times so far this year. He's definitely better than a lot of centers in the league, but I wouldn't put him on "best in the game" level yet.

Flowers is still a work in progress too.
Still cant believe the amount of people
Rory : 9/19/2016 10:19 am : link
aka dipshit fans who wanted Reese fired last year.

You either get it or you dont...an Jerry Reese gets it.

Are you shitting me? You're not sold on by far the best overall lineman on the Giants?
I do have to say that Richburg has been inconsistent
Greg from LI : 9/19/2016 11:02 am : link
He missed at least a few blocks yesterday. He's a promising player but he still has room to improve.

I think they are in SF with flowers in their hair (and not Erick Flowers, he'd be too big).
Reese has a great eye

for talent in the first couple rounds. It's his misses and "boom or bust" picks in rounds 3-7 that killed the roster 09-12.
I'd argue
ryanmkeane : 9/19/2016 11:11 am : link
Reese is one of the best GMs in the league for non-bust picks in rounds 1-2. He's been near perfect in that regard. That being said...GMs tend to make their money in the not so obvious rounds.
Richburg didn't have his best game yesterday
mfsd : 9/19/2016 11:13 am : link
But on balance he's been excellent. Most of our successful runs the past year and 2 games have come up the middle behind his block

I'm not shitting you. Being the best lineman on the team doesn't automatically make you the best center in the game.

He's been solid, no doubt. But All-Pro level? Nope.

This.
GMs make their money in rounds 3-7 - Really?
RollBlue : 9/19/2016 11:25 am : link
Care to give an example or two? The draft is an in-exact science, where you have a better chance of hitting on good players in rounds 1 and 2 - there's a lot of luck involved after that, including the UDFA, where the Giants have culled a few gems.

Injuries have hurt the most, that's mostly bad luck.

So you think the roster was dead in 2011?

You're going to bitch about him not being the best center in the game? He's clearly among the top centers in the game playing in his 2nd year as a center. WTF?

So we can't point out areas that Apple can improve?
2011 and 2012 drafts

were the really bad ones.

In 2010 they took JPP and Linval Joseph.

lol.
Kudos for some good picks
Bill in UT : 9/19/2016 12:11 pm : link
But teams have, what, a 20-30% turnover rate each year? So you don't stay competitive with just 2 draft picks. You also need other draft picks, UDFAs, and FAs. That's where GMs make their money.

Who's bitching? Someone else said he's arguably the best center in the league. All I said was he's not at that level yet, even though I think he's a very good center.

Jesus Christ! Reading is fundamental. Try it.

2010 was an absolute A+ draft when you consider the found pro bowl receiver Victor Cruz as a free agent who could have easily been drafted 3-7 in addition to 2 pro bowl DL JPP & Linval. Ability to find free agents has to also be consider in the overall player selection process. Not only is Reece excellent at the top of the draft he also does a great job finding undrafted free agent gems like Victor Cruz.
