Lane Johnson suspended 10 games

Big Rick in FL : 9/20/2016 9:38 am
His B sample came back & he still failed his drug test. His appeal will be heard during the Bye week & if it's upheld he will miss weeks 5-14. IMO he should have just took the suspension from the beginning. Missing the Browns & Bears in Week 1 & 2 is a lot less important then missing games against Seattle, Green Bay, Cincinnati & Washington. Works for me though.
He thinks he can win on appeal, I guess.

Making the timing more inconvenient is worthwhile if there's a chance of avoiding or reducing the suspension.

That said, what the hell takes the NFL so long to resolve these appeals?
why miss 2 games
UConn4523 : 9/20/2016 9:51 am : link
when you think you can win the appeal? You could also argue that getting off to a 2-0 start is more impactful than being available after 10 games when you may already be out of it.
The guy is a lying cheat

He went from a QB to a 320 pound tackle, failed two drug tests, but yeah by all means let's believe his "supplement" story.
As others have said

he clearly thinks he can win his appeal. It's not only about games missed. He's also forfeiting a ton of money by missing games due to suspension.

How on earth can he appeal the suspension? He failed multiple tests and is a repeat offender. What is there to appeal and how could he possibly win an appeal.

It's a pretty black and white issue.
Maybe he thinks there is a chain of custody issue

ala Ryan Braun
From what I understand

his claim is he used a supplement that he was under the impression was legal. The Players Association provided players an app to check the legality of supplements and that app told him the supplement was OK. I agree he'll likely lose his appeal. However, there's a chance he could get that suspension reduced or perhaps this would set him up to take legal action against the Players Association and App creator.
His defense is the scam
Essex : 9/20/2016 10:14 am : link
They find "supplements" that hide the banned stuff from its label and then claim, I didn't know and I checked it out with the app. It's the same BS with everyone who failed the test claiming they had ADHD. These guys are cheaters so they have no moral issues with lying to cover their tracks. The question isn't whether Lane Johnson is using the PEDs, the question is whether he can get away with it.
I also think it is outrageous that an NFL reporter

jay glazer in this case is working out with people he is supposed to objectively covering. How can a major sports broadcast company allow that to happen? The whole thing stinks.
It's ridiculous that the appeal process is taking so long.

He should be missing games now, not later.

It has no bearing on the players' games. Journalists sweep stuff under the rug all the time based on gaining access.

The NFLPA provides an app that allows the listed label ingredients of a supplement to be checked against the prohibited list.

But the NFLPA also highlights in the boldest, most explicit language that the app is not a guarantee of anything because, of course, the NFLPA has no way of knowing what is actually in any supplement.

And, of course, we only have Johnson's "word" that the supplement in question "must" have been the one and only source for the substance found in his body.

Good luck with that.

Note that under the prior CBA the NFL and NFLPA jointly offered a list of approved supplements. That went out with the new CBA in 2011.

Works out better for the Giants. Even if his suspension is reduced to 4 games, his first eligible game back will be against the Giants. Gotta expect he'll be a little rusty after 4 weeks off.

It's great he's missing games later. Games in Week 13-14 are far more important then week 1 & 2. I'd much rather him miss games against the Redskins & Bengals instead of the 2 they've played so far.
Whew..

for awhile there, I thought this was going to drag on longer than the UNC cheating scandal.

Those games count more?

When you bring a legitimate comparison of that farce of an organization, the NCAA, to the NFL, it's a little frightening that the NFL could have fallen this far.

The NC investigation and lack of punishment will go down as one of the all time frauds in the history of amateur athletics, and probably should lead to the abolishment of the NCAA.
