QB Eli Manning

September 20, 2016

Q: 2-0 start, it would be great to keep this thing going. What are your thoughts on this weekend’s game?

A: We have a tough opponent. Washington, they played tough the first two games. We have to be prepared. They have good players. We have to make sure we’re playing better football, protecting the football and scoring more points. Make sure we’re ready to go and play our best football.

Q: The narrative this week has a lot to do with Beckham and Norman. Do you have any suggestion for him in terms of dealing with this stuff?

A: Just go play football. That’s what the whole team is doing. We have a job to go out there. Everyone is trying to do their assignment and their job at a high level. That goes for him, Victor, me, offensive line. We all have to play at a high level and worry about doing our job.

Q: How do you expect Odell to respond?

A: I think he’ll do his job well. He’s a good player and he works hard. We have to have a good week of practice. I expect him to go out and make plays for us.

Q: Did you say anything to him?

A: He wants to keep this about football. It’s about going out there and doing our jobs. I know he wants to get in the end zone, score and be a big part of this offense. He played well last week and I think he’ll play well again this week.

Q: Do you expect a hungry Washington team to come in here this week?

A: Definitely, I expect a hungry New York Giants team, as well. It’s in the division, early in the season and all these games are important. We have to play our best football.

Q: Norman has the ability to shut players down. With three receivers, does that negate that?

A: Well, he’s a good player. We have to pick our routes against him carefully. We’ll see what their game plan is with him. Whether they’re going to move him around or keep him on the right side. Either way, I feel good about our guys running our routes and being able to win however they want to play them.

Q: You had 20 passes caught by three wide outs. What about having all these weapons at your disposal?

A: It’s good to have weapons. Receivers have done a good job of making plays. Tight ends, running backs, everybody. We have a lot of guys that we can get involved in the passing game. We should have an answer depending on whatever the defense wants to do. It’s good when you have guys you can depend on. A lot of them were my first or second reads, so they’re getting open in a fast and timely fashion. That makes my job a lot easier.

Q: What’s the vibe of this team after the first two games?

A: I’m proud of the team. We’ve been able to win some tight games. They haven’t been perfect by any means. We know we can play better. The defense has been playing great football. Special teams as well. Offensively, we need to pick it up a little bit. Move the ball well but we have to score touchdowns. Can’t afford the turnovers. There’s something’s we can clean up. We’re doing a lot of things really well, but we can clean it up and play better.

Q: What have you seen from Josh Norman on film? Did he do anything different from Week 1 to Week 2 that you saw?

A: He seemed to follow around Dez a little bit more, especially in the second half of that game. He’s a good player. He’s a physical player. You have to understand the matchup and study all the good players. Just know how to deal with that. We still have to run our offense.

Q: Was there any common factor in the three fumbles last week?

A: No. I think three different ways. On Victor’s, the guy kind of got him from behind making a move. Shane, the ball got a little loose. Mine, I have to do a better job of just having two hands on the football in the pocket. All of them are very correctable and we’ll do a good job doing that.
