NFT: Cabin Air Filter

I recently just changed the cabin air filter for the first time in 2013 and will do so for my 2004...I noticed a cleaner smell immediately coming from the vents, what are the other benefits? have you all experienced this same immediate improvement?

Also, changing the brake pads should do away with that annoying squeal.
