Rookie safety Darian Thompson (foot) will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis. Real concern about his foot. He was rolled up on my own man on Sunday vs. Saints. Jordan Raanan, ESPN Staff Writer |
Still better than last year...
#Giants have some options here with Thompson down. Could sign Andrew Adams from PS, but could also move Leon Hall to 3rd safety.
They were checking his shoulder again on the sidelines, during the Saints game. He'll get some time to rest that up as well.
Yeah, I know... too early to panic, and Nat Berhe isn't C.C. Brown.
Will nate start now?
...this very fine rookie Free Safety has a history of getting dinged at Boise State primarily because he is a little reckless with the way he hits, which doesn't sound like the reason for his current malaise.
But it's part of a general pattern. This guy gets dinged.
He got rolled up on and got a shoulder ding (not at all uncommon) which he played through. How can that be construed as injury prone?
Yeah, I know... too early to panic, and Nat Berhe isn't C.C. Brown.
A lot of things went into that to create that situation. It wasn't just CC Brown. That 2009 defense was just bad personnel wise.

Other than the concussion symptoms that caused him to miss the final two games of 2015, what other injuries did he have? He played in all 13 games in 2012 and 2014, but missed four games in 2013. Why? I don't know. Still, in college he played in 46 out of a possible 52 games.
According to his Boise State bio, he played every game that year:

Maybe Leon Hall can help, #1 he's got good cover skills and is a good tackler.
Thompson, though is the long-term answer; It's been a while since we really didn't have to worry about what was happening in the deep zones (and that includes Rolle).
Getting rolled into by a teammate can happen to anyone, at any time. I don't think there's a 'verdict' to be made here.
To me, the issue isn't so much Thompson vs. Berhe. It's Collins, Thompson and Berhe vs. whoever they would plug in if another safety went down. That was a concern even when Mykkele Thompson was available. Now you're looking at bodies off the street or the practice squad.
Hall's role might grow, but it's already pretty big. Didn't he take more defensive snaps against New Orleans than Rodgers-Cromartie?
I'm just so glad someone is out there ready to pounce and label him as injury prone before we have all the information, and on plays where their own teammate caused the injury lol

sooo whats the verdict is this kid just injury prone? or are we going to say two injuries this quickly are freak?

yes because asking a question is clearly labeling him...READ THE POST. it says is he injury prone? or are the injuries freak?
I'm just so glad someone is out there who cannot understand common punctuation and has the ability to understand context. lol
Giants S Darian Thompson said the sprain is on the top of his left foot and "it's minor." He's in a walking boot. No timetable on return.

He got rolled up by one of his teammates with the latest injury - how is that injury prone? Wrong place at wrong time IMO. I think he'll be alright.
yea i like AA alot...the hope is thompson isnt out long, but if he misses a couple weeks AA/hall should be okay

could be worse, a lot worse.
To me it was one of the bigger areas that we needed to
address . We have not had a true centerfielder is quite
some time and it showed with Collins last year .
No one knows how really serious the injury is ...
We do need him but I feel we can survive and he will be
allowed to heal fully . No need to panic ..
Exactly my thought. We have to sign someone. We can't go into the game with only Collins and Berhe, who is a ticking time bomb when it comes to injuries. I'm sorry, but Berhe's body just can't be counted on to hold up. Especially given his style of play.

Very true... he missed few college games. My comment, however, is based on 3 things:
1) I watched a half dozen Boise State games during Thompson's tenure and he played great; he hit like a hurricane and he nicked himself up with the way he tackled;
2) He definitely had a concussion and he may have had a second;
3) What I have seen so far of him as a Pro reminds me of what I saw of him as a college player. Fearsome hitting which at times looks almost like reckless abandonment. In one preseason game, he came in like a torpedo on a sweep to the left and he blew up the ball carrier. He went horizontal and I believe that's when he hurt his shoulder.
Bottom line: Loved this player at Boise State and he's played at a similarly high level in the Pros. But is Darian Thompson thinking about the preservation of his body? The college game is one thing... the Pros an entirely different story. He will break down if he doesn't change his style of tackling to some degree.
Can't speak about the foot injury. I'm simply referring to his general tackling style. He doesn't have to break a man in half to get him on the ground. He missed preseason games because he took a dangerous route to the running back... horizontal head first. He blew up the running back, but he also hurt his shoulder.
Didn't he get hurt?

He's a Safety. He's going to come up and make big hits from time to time. To my untrained eye, he's shown good form doing so. Injuries are part of the game...they happen...but nothing in his history shows him to be "injury prone," so why are you going out of your way to declare that he is, or will be?
if he has surgery at the end of the season.
I didn't hear a doctor say the foot sprain is 'minor',
just the player, always a red flag to me.
We'll see how long he is out.
