Going for a road sweep of the Rays tonight. Sanchez with two hrs last night. Sweeping the Rays on the road would be a huge boost to this teams confidence going into a 4 game series in Toronto.
We are only 2.5 games back but several teams in front of us. They have got to go into these last 3 series with momentum.
As for tonight Cessa vs Snell. Should be a good young pitchers matchup.
yes, best hope is to run up his pitch count and get him out of there ...
Headley has played well too.
He's coming of an injury. Keep his worthless ass on the bench. Play the kid.
Headley was hitting well before the back locked up.

Headley's D has been excellent. More art than science predicting who is ready to rip.
Booooooooooooo....

Nope. Stick with the kid at third. His defense is better than headleys anyways.
He and Tex were like 0-10 tonight. Put butler at first.
Win the fuckin game.
me too. not expecting true contention next year, but continued improvement by the young guys here now and Sanchez continuing his excellence, and looking forward to seeing Bird return healthy, and Frazier coming up to the Show. hopefully some of the young arms progress next year and are ready for prime time in 2018.
It would have been nice to see Sanchez with a bit of protection in the lineup. Not that he could have done any better, but they would have been more reluctant to pitch around him, and we'd have scored more runs. Might we have won the 3-4 more games to put us into the playoffs?

No, I think that's wishful revisionist history.
The trades were designed to do more than bring in talent- it was a full-on get the players attention action. What has cost the Yanks games more than any one single factor is the manager. Girardi's mind-numbing insistence on playing veteran players for no other reason than they are veteran players has hamstrung this team- last night was a great example.
Tex hasn't hit a thing all year- and is retiring. Austin, while not on fire, has CERTAINLY outplayed Tex- by a significant margin. Yet who has played 1B more over the past week? Tex.
The bullpen was BADLY overworked over the past month- rookies got quick hooks- often after just a single batter. Instead of getting rest for some of the vets- Girardi runs them out there day after day.
IMO, Girardi would sit Sanchez for McCann if he could, but even he knows that the media and front office would eat him alive for sitting the best player on the team.
I think that the very first thing that needs to be done in the off-season is to fire Girardi and find someone who knows how to use a bullpen, does not have a hyper aggressive vet protection program, does let a binder think for him, and can actually react to in-game actions and has at least some instinct for the game.
The Yanks need a manager who has some "fire" in him and will be creative offensively. Let's be honest and admit that the Yanks are not going to be a high powered offense next year, even with Sanchez. They are going to have to create runs- which has LONG been a significant weakness under Girardi.
The team needs a manager who can relate to his pitchers and will have the patience to let them develop and work through struggles rather than pulling them out at the first sign of trouble. Look at the difference between the way CC is handled and the way that, for example, Cessa is handled. How many times has CC been left out there to work through a jam? When it is a young guy- Girardi goes to the pen after the first guy gets on.
This is a team in transition, in which there WILL be a LOT of struggles, a lot of mistakes and learning on the fly. Girardi does not tolerate this kind of baseball- and wears those emotions on his sleeve- he is NOT the manager the Yanks need going forward.
Thank him for 2009, give him his gold watch, but tell him he is no longer needed as the team is going in a different direction.
