NFT: Anyone had leg bypass surgery?

ErichBarnes102 : 9/23/2016 5:36 am
If so, what was the recovery like both in the hospital and at home?
It will be done with one of my veins. Procedure sounds more invasive than I had first thought.

TIA
My ex father in law just did this week

I don't know how old you are but he's upper 60s so it may not be apple to apples. His was rather severe as well. He was in the hospital for three days but he got home yesterday and is moving around with a Walker and doing stairs. That's positive.

Good luck to you!
Had an aneurisim behind my knee.

Needed to bypass the Aneurism. Had an artificial Artery inserted from above the knee, inside the leg, down to my calf. In the hospital 3 days then home. I was in longer because it was over the weekend. Probably missed work about 6 weeks altogether. The hardest part because they cut the calf it took time for the muscle to heal. Couldn't stretch the calf muscle and each time I got up, I had to stretch it out again. That was very painful. I was out of bed and walking the next day. It was gradual. A few steps at first then more and more each day.
Best of luck Erich. When you are recovering you'll probably have

some free time to tell BBI about your progress. We're pulling for you.
Thanks guys

Sounds in line with what I'm being told: 4-5 days in hospital, 4-6 weeks total recovery time.

Steve L.,
I'm in my early 60s (could probably guess from my handle). I believe you're from Rochester. Did your father have his surgery at RGH (or whatever they're calling it now?

He did have it at RGH. I spoke with him a bit ago and he is doing very well. Better than yesterday. He says the pain is more than he thought it would be, but nothing the vicodin is taking care of.
