The Giants aren't rewarding this guy with a new contract and he's played in 14 of 34 NFL games so far in his career, and some of those he didn't even start.

I think too many times folks latch on to someone's draft rankings.. he has an NFL track record of not staying healthy, off the field issues, and overall mediocre (at best) performance. Hard pass.

They rewarded Josh Brown with one...just saying
We have no idea what actually happened, or what happened between Brown and the front office. I'm not going to bother speculating.
What I do know is that Giants aren't interested in injury prone players anymore. I also know that they will likely not want to give a guy who has atelast 1 DUI a contract, and worry about suspension hanging over his head.
Not every guy with upside is someone we should look at. The team is righting the ship right now, no need to fuck that up.
Who would you cut in order to bring in an alcoholic? Â
He needs an attitude adjustment but based on talent he'd be the best TE on the team. He's a way better blocker than Donnell or Tye with a larger catch radius and soft hands.
Give him the minimum and see if he takes to a fire being lit under his ass. If he does, I still think he has the potential to be a top 10 TE in the league.
Has a ton of talent but the injuries bug could have also taken some of that away. Hate to say it but today those foot injuries seem to destroy the athletic ability of too many players. Now he would become the fix it solution at TE for us but it will take some research and quality medical evaluation. It's a risk but the contract terms would be pretty much in the full control of the team since he would be just trying to earn a living and maybe one day become a valued FA. Some of these young men just don't understand even with there God given talent life is still very much about choices.
The Giants have one more week in a priority position on the waiver pecking order before 2016 records become the determinant.
That's not a reason to claim Seferian-Jenkins. But if they liked him in the 2014 Draft, they have a pretty good shot at being awarded his rights, should they put in a claim.
Why would a drunk underachiever be a better fit here? Â
Guys - we completely suck at TE and it's not like Tampa should be considered a flagship organization for developing players. We have got to still consider all ways to improve some weaknesses on our squad.
Had lingering questions about his character and work ethic coming into the draft. His production dropped off by half in his final season and was drafted because of his elite size/speed combo - though he isn't an elite athlete at the position in the mold of a Gronk or Gates. Also isn't physical. Not a blocker.
Imho, he was over drafted due to a weak TE class. I'm generally not a proponent of drafting TEs with premium picks. That goes double for guys who come with these kinds of flags.
We now know he isn't much of a worker and the character flags are real, there's the added bonus of him always being injured. Just another example of a guy who's always gotten by on his physical gifts against lesser competition but who doesn't want to put in the work to be great. Waiver wire is littered with these guys.
guys take taxis or Ubers? Heck, they make enough money to hire a private driver for nights out on the town. Or even get a Turtle like Vinny Chase.
Heck they don't even have to do that bc the NFL has a program where any player can call a 1800 number at any time and get a free ride. It's beaten into their skull from the moment they come into the league. These dumbasses like ASJ just choose not to use that service for whatever reason. It's just nexcusable, and I don't want anybody that stupid on our team. Hard pass.

That's a pretty astute observation, BBB. I didn't realize there was a midstream point where the waiver priority considerations change. Still don't want ASF, though.
I understand why you are saying it based upon the status of our TE situation.
HOWEVER, you guys do not know the real situation with this guy. He has not been a team player and the rest of the players were not on board with this guy. Was a huge diva. Was not producing....and the word is that he milked an injury for months that should have taken just a couple of weeks to get him back on the field.
He is toxic and we have a good thing going on in the locker room right now. Would rather roll with who we have vs bring in a virus
...I could see a team using a veteran practice squad slot to give him a chance to prove himself.
Currently, the Giants' vet slots are occupied by two of Michael Ola, Stansly Maponga and Adam Gettis. (I still haven't figured out the rules completely.) Would a two-week tryout for Seferian-Jenkins offer more potential payoff than one of those guys? Hard to say. With Newhouse out, Beatty iffy, and Hart/Jones completely unproven, the two 28-year-old offensive linemen on the practice squad might be valuable insurance.
Why the hell not?

Josh Johnson

I don't know how he was with the Bucs but he was awful in college at blocking.

Oh, next chapter? A self inflicted screw up and (hey, I move on, next chapter).
With the money a lot of them make, they could hire a full time, on-call 24/7 personal chauffeur to ferry them around everywhere in a Rolls Royce.
Agree.
I don't think so.

that can had on the cheap? Got Patriots written all over him. Belichick collects TEs like they were Bon Jovi bootlegs.

Never worked out. Sometimes you are just wrong about a guy. We don't get to interview them like the teams/scouts do.
