LB Keenan Robinson

September 23, 2016

Q: When you get up there to give a speech to the team, what is your approach?

A: I just speak from the heart. Whatever is on my mind. I don’t really plan anything. I just speak from the heart. From my heart today I was just telling the guys that in order to get to, right now we’re 2-0. It doesn’t really mean anything yet. We have to consistently put in the work that we started back in April in order to get to where we want to get to. That’s obviously to put another banner up and get a Super Bowl. That’s everyone’s ultimate goal but in order to do that, you have to be serious about the goals that you set. You have to be serious about the steps you take towards getting that and achieving that. We have to come to work no matter if we’re 0-2 like they are or 2-0. We have to put in the work because every team in the NFL will come ready to play on Sunday, Monday or Thursday, whatever night the game is. We have to make sure that we never overlook anyone. Stay on top of our P’s and Q’s and handle what we need to handle. Just come ready to play firing on all cylinders come Sunday.

Q: A division opponent even at 0-2, you wouldn’t overlook them anyways right?

A: Exactly. This is a big game. This is two for us. It’s a division game. Either way you want to look at it, it doesn’t matter. We just know that some people need motivation in different ways. Our motivation on defense is to continue to build what we want to build. On offense it’s to continue to build and become a dominant offense. On special teams we have to be able to get back to the top 5 special teams in the league. Everyone has their own goals that we have set before the season. This game is another opportunity to showcase that.

Q: Were you asked to give the speech?

A: Yes.

Q: How’d that make you feel?

A: It was pretty cool. The coaches here see me as somewhat of a leader. I had something to say to the team that would help inspire us and help us get to where we want to, which is 3-0.

Q: Snacks gave a speech last week, what’s it say about you new guys being able to come in and take that on?

A: It’s weird. We have leaders that have been here in the past, but we have a lot of guys that are vets who were brought in through free agency and in the offseason. A lot of guys that have played on different teams. Now we’re here all on one team. We have leaders but they may have come from different places and different teams before. They still consider us leaders and guys that can step up and make an impact. Guys that can step up and feel like they have a presence on this team. That just shows how much they respect us, whether they’ve been here or not.
Robinson did well last week...

must be impressing the coaches to, as he received the most snap counts of all the LBers in addition to being asked to give the speech this week.

A lot of us were excited when he was signed - liked what we saw from him in DC. He kind of got lost in the media coverage with other players stealing the spotlight. Hoping he can stay healthy and continue to contribute to us.

LB Snaps (defense only, not ST)
Robinson 52
Casillas 41
Sheppard 10

At LB allows us to use Collins in the box as a hybrid LB/S and keep 4 DBs back. The flexibility that Robinson's speed and coverage ability give us is HUGE out there right now. He'll have to strap it up on Sunday though, the Skins OL is huge and Matt Jones is a bull. I suspect we'll see more Devon Kennard with Collins more at SS.

I'm guessing you liked the Robinson signing assuming he could remain HEALTHY?..Also, has Casillas surprised you to date?

Joey, how do you see the Giants covering Reed?

Now that's an interesting take re Kennard. I expected to see more of him against the Saints, but the Giants played so much nickel and dime that it left him languishing on the bench.

Joey, how do you see the Giants covering Reed?
Carefully? I'm not sure what Spags is going to do, he has to keep Berhe deep but keep the DBs wide, this is an offense designed like ours, to get YAC. They will take shots deep but keeping everyone in front of us should be the plan. Stopping the run is issue #1, do we go base with Sheppard, Kennard and Casillas or does Robinson start in a big nickel with Collins down low?

I think they zone this team up a lot, they have the WRs to get deep and the TE to keep safeties occupied so the LBs have to pitch in covering the TE a lot. I'd look for them to contain him zone wise in levels, LBs in the hook zones and a nickel CB over the top. DRC may get the nod there, he's got the length to do it, but I think underneath he's zoned up by the LBs.
i think nickel/dime

gruden runs a base 3 WR offense so expect the jackson/crowder/reed/garcon matchup right away. they also have vernon davis as their #2 TE, he had 5 catches for 52 yards last week.
they like to bring him in and then flex Reed out to create mismatches if u go base
if u go nickel they run. expecting that early this week
