NFT: Venmo? Anyone use it?

Milton : 9/23/2016 6:13 pm
A friend across the country owes me $50 and wants to pay me via venmo. How secure is it? My money situation is tight so I could use the cash, but not if it makes my checking account any more vulnerable than it already is. I pay all my bills including credit cards online so I guess I'm already at risk. Also, is it any more or less risky receiving money via venmo than it is sending money via venmo?

Thanks.
my son does, all the time

Just don't use it with people you don't already trust

Very easy for someone to send money and then claim it back.

Like for craigslist or sports tickets or anything really. It's great, but it is definitely risky.
Yep

Venmo is fine. And the transfer to your bank seems to be faster than via PayPal.

Have never had an issue.
Can't he simply mail you a check?
steve in ky : 9/23/2016 8:27 pm : link
If he owes you money he should pay you on your terms and not make you sigh up for something your not sure about or completely comfortable with.
We should do

And ones targeting foreign transfers are going to make cheques obsolete

Checks will always have purpose and use. Apps like you mentioned might be convenient for splitting the tab and the like, but when it comes to real world payments such as pest control, HVAC, etc., checks are still the preferred form of payment.
Venmo is great.

Mailing cash across the country isn't a great idea.
Never heard of it until..

I met the guy who started it. His sister works with me.

Sold it to PayPal for several million and is now developing his next app.

You may be right but I've never had a problem. The Post Office is pretty reliable and all you risk is your $50. If something goes wrong with the electronics you're looking at much time and grief straightening it out. Just my POV.

not for much longer as apps and credit cards extending to B2B and service industries (including mobile payments) will be the norm
