The best defense money can buy.

They've done a great job stuffing the run, not to mention holding Drew Brees to under 300 yards passing, but I hope we can get a sack or two from our front four tomorrow. They've been applying good pressure, but I'd like to see them close the deal a couple of times against Kirk Cousins. Of course sacks don't tell the whole story - hell, the Jets sacked Andy Dalton seven times and they still lost to the Bengals - but it's high time for JPP and OV to start putting the fear of God into opposing QBs.

It's also high time for some takeaways. Force a fumble, intercept a pass, is that asking too much?
It's time to hold

Them by the nose and kick them in the ass.
This is why I tend to believe Raanan when he says

that OV's injury might be worse than they're letting on. IMO, OV and JPP would be wreaking havoc right now, but they're both dinged up. Maybe not critically so, but enough to impact their game.
OV getting good pass rush and

JPP almost had a sack last week too. I'd also like to see OO and Okwara get into it with a sack, as well.

To my untrained eyes, OO has been fairly underwhelming while Okwara has been a pleasant surprise. Still very raw, but the tools are there.

Also, I should have included Big Hank as another guy who's due for a sack or two. Time to recapture some of that 2014 magic. I'd also like to see Jay Bromley get in on the act. I know the vast majority of BBI thinks he's a bust, was overdrafted, etc., but I still have some hope for the guy.

Was it Ranaan or Garafolo?
It was Garafolo...

As mentioned in this thread.

But, regardless of who brought it up, I suppose it's okay to speculate about it. Sure beats another OBJ vs. Norman discussion.
there is no defending the fact

our pass rush isn't there yet. now, there are lots of excuses but this D right now is missing the element of a fearsome pass rush. OV is a great run defender but we paid him to be a sack artist, too. JPP didn't get $10M to just stuff the run.

look at the elite pass rushers around the NFL - almost getting a sack and otherwise not sniffing the QB isn't top level stuff.

i am not complaining, our defense overall is impressing the hell outta me, but the pass rush isn't there yet and i agree (and hope) its because our starting DEs are hurt.
Points against.

I would like to see them dominate and get a bunch of sacks but if we keep holding most of our opponents to under 20 we will win a lot of games. I'm confident there will be plenty of sacks once this group starts to gel.
Kind of sad,

when you mention, he "almost" had a sack, after two games....maybe they will come in bunches...
While it is always gratifying

to see our Jints sack the opposing qb, it should be noted that the Steelers had their way with Cousins rushing three DL and putting eight in coverage.
I thought the Giants paid JPP

for QB pressures. Everyone was so enamored by them last season, and that was what made Ayers such a good pass rusher. Oh yea, the Giants also paid JPP for his famous "burst".
I think you guys are making a bigger deal than it is

I don't mean that in a disrespectful way, but first game was against best o line in the game. Second was against veteran Brees who gets rid of ball quickly.

Honestly I feel like they've been living in the backfield especially in 2nd half. They are close. The sacks and in turn, the turnovers will come.

Jpp has 5 QB hurries, good for 3rd best in the NFL. Vernon has 4 QB hurries.

The pass rush is fine. Sacks are great but consistent pressure is better in the long run. We're getting pressure. It might not be an insane pass rush but it's just fine especially when you factor in how good the run d has been and the quality running games they shut down.

You guys are overvaluing the pass rush
adamg : 9/25/2016 1:38 am : link
Our secondary is the best aspect of our D. Three above average corners. One above average safety. A rookie safety who has the potential to be a big aspect of the unit. Not to mention a vet corner who can fill in the blank when someone goes down in Hall.

I think our secondary may be the best in the NFC. Given that, our pass rush might improve drastically, and it may be because the QB has no targets to throw to.

Jenkins is amazing. DRC has been shutdown his whole time in blue, and Jenkins actually looks better. The secondary is our strength.
It seems

The DEs were droppig into coverage against Saints. Somtimes both on the same play with preassure coming from Dbs. Saints rbs and on occassion OTs were not adjusting and Brees rushedd throw.
