Here is a theory on why no D-line Sacks yet.
Giants Offense have not had a big lead yet.
This is Spags defense right ?
If you recall at its peak that defense was all about:
1. stopping the run. FIRST
2. Forcing teams to Pass to come from behind
I know some have pointed out injuries but I think once this offense starts getting some early leads on people its going to be a different story.
This.
I agree with everything you said...
But i do believe when you know that teams are throwing and will be throwing and have to throw to catch up It allows you to be more aggressive because you know whats coming.
And lastly i don't think there is a problem at all with no sacks from DL.
This was exactly my point. It's exciting because I think the team's best football in years is right around the corner.
There were plenty of plays where Brees held the ball because of excellent coverage.
Not everything can be summed up by a singular stat such as a sack.
I have zero concerns about our DL, its awesome and doing exactly what its being tolds to do. The DL has other responsibilities besides getting sacks. Stopping the run, controlling the edge, keeping backs and TE's off their routes by bumping them, containing the packet on passes, etc.
Define dog. I'm really not sure if you're serious with this comment.
JPP has probably been our best defensive player through 2 weeks or atleast top 3 along with Collins and Janoris.
Quote:
Vernon is banged up and JPP is and has always been a dog.

Don't engage him. He's got a gimmick.
Wow...a dog? Seriously? What the fuck is wrong with you?
I think the Giants defense has been keying on disrupting passing lanes, which means you don't put your head down and make a mad blind dash to the QB, you hurry him AND you put your hands up. (Sacks are gravy).
The other thing you pick your blitzing opportunities very judiciously.
I think McAdoo has given Spags a "points allowed" target (16-17 ?). This may not mean spectacular go-for-broke defensive performances but rather translates into #1 Eliminating big offensive plays and #2 Getting the defense off the field, as much as possible.

Setting a goal of 16-17 points per game is lofty air. That gets you into discussion with historically good defenses. The '15 Broncos allowed 18.5 per game.
That's all it is. No theories needed
the entire NFL and The Saints have a good mix of young
and veteran players Terron Armstead is a real up and commer .
I feel that with the influx of new players learning Spags
system will continue to get better .
We will see added blitzing Jenkins DRC and Collins plus
the emergence of Owa and Okwara as the season progresses
and teams will realize how tough it will be to run against
us will also pay dividends down the road .
If the offense gets clicking with a the defense being stout
Vs the Run it will lead to more opportunities when we
force teams to pass more and play from behind .
Maybe Robert Ayers was the guy to keep, instead of JPP, for less money. He could have had the same production as last season with Vernon instead of JPP drawing all the attention. I was vehemently opposed to signing JPP for any price, but then I started to soften a little when I saw his off season work outs and such. I wanted to believe he would be better without the club. So far, he's pretty much the same player as last season, lots of "burst" and creates QB "pressures" and "hurries" but no sacks. I hope I'm wrong, but I had a thread after the Giants signed him, asking how many sacks? Put the over under at 4. I really hope I'm wrong, but I would have cut his ass right after the 4th of July incident. Losing their LT and franchise tagged DE before the season is why TC is gone. All I can say is I really hope I am wrong, but someone else would be paying him if it were up t me.
The Giants gave up nearly as many yards and more points in 3 quarters to the Saints last year than they have in 2 games.
If you measure the quality of the defense on sack numbers, yikes.
I'll take the much improved, disciplined winning defense that's been on the field the last 2 weeks.
The pass rush is fine. You also need to factor in the offenses they faced. Both The qbs they faced haven't been sitting back there with all day to throw. Quick drops...
Don't let logic get in the way dude. You're doing that crazy thing where you put productivity and winning above the stat line.
I'll take those stats and don't give a darn if we never get a sac and JPP and Vernon are downfield in coverage on every play. In effect, the whole discussion is superfluous, bring it up when the villains are actually scoring on us..
