WR Odell Beckham Jr.

Postgame vs Washington, September 25, 2016

Q: You really personally turned it on in the second half. It looked like you were playing your guts out. How disappointing is it to come so close and not go 3-0?

A: That’s the only good thing. Last year I think we were 0-3, 1-2 or whatever it was. We’re doing better this year. This was a big game. We obviously needed a win in the division. Came up short and made a lot of mistakes. It’s on us. They played their hearts out. They were 0-2. They had to come in and get a win and they did exactly that.

Q: What happened after the game? It seemed like you guys had a really nice moment, you and Josh Norman. What was said there?

A: We’re just two fierce competitors. That’s all it is. We love football. We feel like this has turned into something that is not football. Honestly, I know that all I care for is football.

Q: It looked like there was a lot of talking during the game. Was Josh talking a lot on the field?

A: I don’t really remember any words. I just remember going out and playing our game. It just so happened that we came out with the loss today.

Q: What happened on the sideline after you had a big drive, you seemed to have a meltdown?

A: I don’t remember.

Q: You guys had a lot of completions underneath but you weren’t able to get the ball over the top. What were they doing from preventing you guys from hitting that?

A: I think it’s the same thing teams have been doing all year. Just not allowing anything deep. Keeping everything in front of us. That’s a good strategy. You don’t allow for any big plays. You have to methodically drive the ball down the field. They did a great job of coming out being 0-2 and clawing, scratching, fighting, doing anything they needed to do to get the win.

Q: Were you in tears? At any point?

A: I don’t remember.

Q: How’d you get the scratch on your face?

A: I don’t remember.

Q: On the first touchdown, Norman caught you in the air. You faked and he carried you about five or six steps. Were you surprised the referee didn’t call a penalty on that?

A: I don’t remember.

Q: When you say you don’t remember is it because there is so much adrenaline going that it’s hard to remember?

A: Yes, I don’t remember.

Q: Did the referee speak to you before?

A: Yes. They implemented a new rule this year. It’s basically the Odell Beckham Jr. rule. I had three personal fouls last year so they said if you come out and get one personal foul and another one for the same thing. Today, they came up before the game and said, if you do anything, we’re throwing you out of the game. That was before the game. There was, ‘no, you get a warning.’ There was not any of that. You just have to be on your best behavior. Unfortunately, that’s what it’s come to. It’s not really football anymore as much as it is all the other things that play into it.

Q: You were playing with the expectation that if you committed a personal foul you’d be gone?

A: I was honestly shocked when we ran a play and went to and I guess I blocked too early. I was surprised they didn’t throw me out of the game then. I wouldn’t have been surprised actually.

Q: Did that change the way you played this game?

A: Not necessarily. You just have to stay composed. I don’t know what else to tell you.

Q: Did they give that warning to everybody or specifically to you?

A: No, specifically me.

Q: Do you know if they gave it to Norman?

A: That’s none of my concern. They came up to me and talked to me. That’s all I remember. I don’t remember watching to see if he went to talk to him, Richburg, coach McAdoo.

Q: Did that moment take you by surprise?

A: Not so much surprise. Nothing really surprises me anymore. I’ve been through a lot in the past two years, two and a half years. There’s not really much that can happen that’ll surprise me.

Q: As far as you’re concerned, you have no issue with him?

A: It’s never been an issue. It’s been something that’s been made up by all of this in a sense. Like I said, all I care for is football and I’m sure it’s the same for him.

Q: Do you have an issue with the officiating?

A: No. I don’t have any issues. I just like playing football.

Q: Was that before the game?

A: Yes.

Q: Were you fined before the game as well?

A: We talking about the Redskins game? I thought we were talking about the Redskins game because that just happened.

Q: There was a report this morning that you got fined for last week?

A: Okay, well we just lost to the Redskins in the division. I’m not really concerned with anything other than that.

Q: Do you get more fired up when you go against the best? Is that something that you personally get more fired up about?

A: If it was you, or any of you and we’re playing pinball and your score is 36,000, I want 36,001. It doesn’t matter who it is. I love to compete and I hate losing. Going against the best, what else are you here for. You want to go against the best and compete against the best. Today I think we did a great job of making it a lot about football. Even though there was a lot of outside implications that went on that predetermined the matchup before it happened instead of letting us play football. Like I said, we came up short today.

Q: What were your emotions in the second half when you were having a big drive taking a step back, having a big drive, taking a step back?

A: Same as they always are. Same as they always are.
Actually think the NFL

was wrong with the way the warnings were issued. I think McAdoo has a valid complaint to the league.

If they really told him he had no wiggle room, then they were wrong to do so.

I also think, the hatchet was buried at midfield after the game. Don't think we'll see as much going forward..
the fact that there was no flag on norma

for the body slam tells me there was no warming to him like they gave beckham
It was obvious that the league told the officiating crew
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 9/25/2016 6:57 pm : link
to be overzealous on everything. In doing so, they missed a bunch of other calls that happen during play.
Can someone fill me in on this "nice moment" OBJ and Norman had after

The game? Once Eli threw the pick I turned the TV off.
I think he is spot on about his comment

Regarding the "Odell Beckham rule". It was total bullshit for the league to say before the game if he did anything hen he was getting ejected, but not he guy who threatened his life with a baseball bat last time he showed up. After seeing Norman bear hug Odell after the whistle right in front of he red. You know the game was rigged by nfl to pump ratings. And you know Norman didn't get that same talk about instant ejection if he did something. I would absolutely file a complaint against the officials, They should be fined for their partiality in how they decided to officiate this game from the start. Nothing you can do about it, at least Beckham bettered Norman on the field. I think the refs overall let the skins play football against the Giants, while the Giants were relegated to play paddy cake. Good for some of hem for not accepting that, like Richburg. At least he's got his teammates backs.

They talked at midfield, patted each other on the chest and moved on. I think the craziness is pretty much over.
Beckham has to face Norman twice a year

he better get his shit together. He can't melt down every game -- despite his productivity on the field.
Horrible officiating all game.

Giants did plenty to shoot themselves too but how many times is Beckham going to be picked up and carried and dropped by this fool. And getting called for pass interference on those crossing pic routes. The refs had this as such a one sided game.
Correct David B

Beckham has to get hot hit together and not be in tears every damn week if he can avoid it. I continue to be embarrassed by this new breed of player. A tremendous talent but no need for the sideline show.
hot hit

I meant his shit
7 receptions, 121 yards receiving.

against one of the best corners in the league (except on BBI) with safety help.

Get his shit together?

the problem with the pick was Beckham ran up and grabbed the CB. Pretty bad play.
The production is fine

But we can't have this guy becoming a drama queen every week, whether it's a fine one week or whatever happened this week.

This week is an exception because we knew the hype was real with Norman v. Beckham. Round one goes to Norman. He won the game. So far, we are 0-2 against him.

But he's got to control his emotions esp. if he's any kind of a team leader - which I am not sure he is or isn't.

Would u rather him say what we all are thinking.... Maybe pull a Keyshawn or TO and say get me involved in the fking game before the 4th quarter and nobody on planet earth can cover me? You think Beckham likes seeing play calls like faded to Rainey or seam passes to tye? This kid did all he could to put the team on his back in the 4th quarter. For some reason we don't target him as much as when he was a rookie. He needs 15 targets a game. Every game
