C Weston Richburg

Postgame vs. Washington, September 25, 2016

Q: What happened out there?

A: I let my teammates down. I have to be a presence in there and be a leader and I let my team down.

Q: Were they provoking you?

A: No, not at all. I think this matchup last year with two individuals was kind of a problem, so I think they were kind of trying to cut down on that. But from my perspective I need to settle down and just be that leading presence for my team.

Q: Is this the first time you have been ejected from a game?

A: No, sadly, I was ejected in college.

Q: What Josh Norman say to you? Did he say something that got you going?

A: No, not at all.

Q: When you saw the flag, did you know it was for you?

A: I mean, no, I hope not, but the guy that threw it was after me, but like I said, they were probably trying to cut down on things because of what happened with that matchup, but it is on me. I can’t control how many flags they want to throw. I have to be a leader and be in there for my team.

Q: Why do you think the guy was after you?

A: I deal with him a lot because he is the umpire and spots the ball, so I am talking to him about calls and what not, but like I said, I just have to be that consistent presence for my team and today I made a mistake and let it pull me out of the game.

Q: Did you speak to your teammates when they came back into the locker room?

A: Yeah. I told them that it is unacceptable for me to do that and I have to be in there with you guys.

Q: Was it you hitting him or was it something after the whistle?

A: I hope not, because it was a good block

Q: How do you think it affected the team not having you?

A: Well, there needs to be some consistency in the offensive line and I need to be in there and that is what I am upset about and that is what I need to fix.

Q: Did he tell you why he threw you out for?

A: No. We didn’t have a very lengthy conversation about it.

Q: Did you say something to Norman on the play?

A: No.

Q: So what are your thoughts regarding that call?

A: I can’t say anything about the call. Those are circumstances that I can’t control, so I have to do a better job and hang in there for my team.

Q: Did that have anything to do with him laying a big hit on Sterling Shepard before?

A: It is an emotional game. Big things happen, big plays and like I said, I have to be that consistent presence in there and be a leader and today I let my offensive line down and my team down.

Q: Do you feel that as a team you guys weren’t very disciplined today?

A: We had a lot of penalties, so we have to be better. We hurt ourselves.

Q: Did you say something to Norman on the play?

A: No.

We all saw him yapping at Norman on the ground.
Second one on him was a killer

Negated OBJ catch and run that pull the ball inside their five. Unacceptable.

What is worse is it was not even the dumbest. most costly, or last unsportsmanlike penalty of the game.

He didn't touch Norman.

He wasn't pointing at him. He wasn't in his face. That call was a complete overreaction to last year's horseshit.
Everyone heard "that's bullshit. No fuck that!"

He was definitely talking to an official.

He also could have been called for a block in the back too

No, the block was good and that is not a PF if it is a block in the back.
my question would be

what happened on the first call?

i saw the holding, but nothing after that would indicate a personal foul that I saw, and he was on camera for a while
The loss sucks.

Our team was very undisciplined. But that, to me, is still a play that brings a team together. He showed his teammates he had their back. I hated this 2 personal foul rule since I first heard about it. Didn't look like the type of hit to warrent a personal foul, and certainly not an ejectable offense. I hope our boys can bond and come together over this loss and not fall apart. Clean it up, on to Minnesota.

Watch it again. Richburg blocks from behind. It is as clear as day.
