What Was The Deciding Factor in the Giants Loss?

gidiefor : Mod : 9/26/2016 7:53 am
For my money -- I think DRC and Apple leaving the game was what made the difference - the Defensive backfield was a different animal in the second half giving Washington new life on Offense

We had less points.
Jimmy Googs : 9/26/2016 8:00 am : link
Seriously, there were so many egregious mistakes by all 3 of our units, any of which could have given us 3 more points...easily.

Just do not know which was the most egregious.

But no way it was injuries.
...
Chuck Q : 9/26/2016 8:02 am : link
Eli's last interception... without that, he was probably going to march down the field and we kick a close range field goal on the last play for the win.

GiantsRage2007 : 9/26/2016 8:06 am : link
Being out was killer.

Wade was horrible. Just bad. The fake punt, The interference- just bad.

Granted the 45 other mistakes didn't help for sure - hard to blame it all one one guy

Yhis was a total team loss but Wade really hurt them
gidie, I was thinking that too
Bill L : 9/26/2016 8:07 am : link
I also thought that not having Thompson there was a big loss. I like Behre but he's a very different type of player.

But that was just one of many. Too many to overcome!

We were sloppy and undisciplined!
There were many factors for the loss
steve in ky : 9/26/2016 8:08 am : link
But IMO penalties would lead the list.

You can't play that undisciplined and commit that many penalties and expect to win and that Vernon roughing the QB was the cherry on top of all of them. They probably don't even fall behind the Skins at the end if he doesn't commit that one.

DRC and Apple being on the field and the game is an easy win
I think we all agree that it's sloppy, undisciplined football
Bobby Humphrey's Earpad : 9/26/2016 8:11 am : link
Across the board. That's the simple message - they have not been sharp all season. And cutting a practice squad guy is not going to change it.
#1 - OL
jcn56 : 9/26/2016 8:12 am : link
That OL had Eli hurried against a not very good D for most of the game.

Deciding factor is tough in a game where they should have won and had a chance to until the bitter end. The Redskins are a lousy team, and the Giants should be extremely disappointed with themselves today for forking over a home game that they should have won despite losing DRC and Apple (and Richburg on account of his own stupidity).
Here's a theory ---
gidiefor : Mod : 9/26/2016 8:13 am : link
with a weaker backfield -- it started putting pressure on the rest of the team and caused them to push themselves and unravel

I also think that Washington's Offensive line did an outstanding job - even with losing two of their players
On the bright side,
Bill L : 9/26/2016 8:13 am : link
how much better than Washington are we?

We shot ourselves in the foot in every imaginable way. If we play even a tad normally and both teams play it straight up, we win by at least 30 points.
Deciding Factor?
M.S. : 9/26/2016 8:15 am : link
Washington out-played the Giants and made all the critical big plays. The Giants were also out-coached. And the Giants lost composure in the form of a bazillion penalties. I would put DRC/Apple way, way down on the list.

As far as I'm concerned Washington was the better team yesterday, they won. That's all that matters in my book.

A ton of criticism, when that was a bullshit penalty. I get that you don't give the refs a reason, but if that was any other player than Josh Norman, that isn't flagged.

WAY, WAY down the list? Despite ALL the stupidity and undiscipline, we lost by TWO POINTS with an excellent shot at the end..This is no real contest if DRC and Apple are in there, DESPITE all the crap that went on. If they're in we win this game and overcome all that occurred, imv

30 might be a stretch. I thought we are two touchdowns better.

You need to have vision. We play the Redskins again, they're the division champions, and there was not one and thing from yesterday that wasn't either a fluke or a correctable error. I think there's a lot of reason for optimism.
Plenty of bad to go around in all 3 phases
Motley Two : 9/26/2016 8:31 am : link
but the entire game plan & approach to this game was god awful. Mac should have had this team licking their chops going into this game.

Whatever happens between Mac & Eli, with play calls, checks & audibles before the ball is snapped was not working.

It's pretty fucking clear that Eli, Odell, Sheperd & Cruz are the strength of the offense and designing plays featuring Darkwas, Tyes & Rainys is pretty god damn stupid in my opinion. Especially when the other team loses 2 starters from their secondary. When it was 14-3 in Giants favor, it was time to pour it on. Their secondary had no answer for the Giants WRs. None. Odell, Cruz & Shep should all have been over 100+ yards.

To me there was no deciding factor although the penalty on the BP hurt...this was a team loss.
Sloppy play by many players.
Ira : 9/26/2016 8:38 am : link
Too many penalties and turnovers and other mistakes. Coach McAdoo says this will be corrected. If it isn't, it's on him and his staff.
We
AcidTest : 9/26/2016 8:38 am : link
were undisciplined, as we were against the Saints. The turnovers and the penalties are an indication of an undisciplined team, which is on McAdoo. The endless PF penalties were particularly bad, and we are now minus five or six in turnovers for the season. Losing Apple and DRC hurt, as did not having Thompson, but the Redskins lost Breeland and Hall. That isn't why we lost the game. We beat ourselves, as we so often do. We were a far worse opponent than the Redskins.

Bill I'm not one to overreact after one poorly played game. But the the lack of poise and discipline is concerning to me.

If I remember correctly Joe Buck and Troy Aikman didn't even talk about the penalty. They showed it and then never addressed it at all. There were a few other bad penalties that they just ignored too. They show ODB flipping out on the sideline for 10 minutes straight but ignore awful calls.
penalties
NoPeanutz : 9/26/2016 8:48 am : link
128 yards in penalties is more than 7 points off the board. This team played dumb and lost by 2.

It was a complete breakdown....
Doomster : 9/26/2016 9:36 am : link
Hard to focus on one play......but with so many you tend to focus on the last one, because if it didn't happen we had a shot at a win, despite everything that happened up to that point.........

As soon as Wade had to come into the game, I knew we were in trouble....

We said this before the season started.....the starters have to stay on the field because, there is no depth behind them.....backups get out there and become weak links...and while we started out well with few injuries, they are starting to pile up....and if they continue, then this season can start to go south on us....hopefully they are minor and not major....

The deciding factor?
Cruzin : 9/26/2016 9:42 am : link

Forced to pick just one I would say Crowder's 55 yard romp through the middle of our defense was a killer.
The immediate cause was the poor INT by Eli on the final drive
Mike from Ohio : 9/26/2016 9:46 am : link
But this was a total team loss. More so than they have had in a while. Offense, defense and special teams all failed at critical times. No one unit, play or player was responsible for the loss.

Need to shred the tape of this one and get right for Minnesota. The coaching staff and the players need to figure out how refocus on playing smart, disciplined football like they did in the first two weeks.
