BBI Giants-Redskins Game Review Now Available

A bit different this week as I focused on the bigger issues rather than individual player performances...

Game Review: Washington Redskins at New York Giants, September 25, 2016 - ( New Window )

........
I think the review can be summed up pretty quickly
Old Dirty Beckham : 9/26/2016 12:35 pm : link
The giants currently lack maturity and poise as a football team. Not every player, but collectively.

If it changes this team is good enough to win ten games and get in the playoffs.
it was like
Dankbeerman : 9/26/2016 1:06 pm : link
they did the opposite of the sterotypical "key points", like you hear too often.

lost the turnovet battle, all three killed drives probably cost us 9 points minimum

didnt avoid costly penalties, roughing the passer, richburg pushed back instead of 1st and goal killed momentum

made some bad special team plays, kickoff ob, 50+ yard punt return, fake punt all led to points
turnovers are a part of the game
Carthonfan : 9/26/2016 1:39 pm : link
although concerning. Needs to be corrected and hopefully will be.

However, its much more frustrating that they almost definitely would have won the game if they had cut down on stupid penalties. Not all penalties, just the ones that were completely unnecessary.
One take away

Through three games, the Giants have turned the ball over seven times (4 fumbles, 3 interceptions) and only have one take-a-way (which was a gimme muffed punt).

I've never thought about it before, but isn't a blocked FG attempt run back for a TD a take away? I guess once the ball is kicked, possession is lost so it can't be a turnover.

In any event, nice review Eric - and some disturbing trends.

Thanks!

Officially that is not considered a turnover.
Worst exhibition of missed or broken tackles

in memory.
Secondary D stunk.
Eli seriously off.

The Giants are who we hoped they weren't!!

If you want to bury them, bury them!! Channeling my best Dennis Green. Lack of discipline, costly mistakes, and even dirty play. I'm just so pissed off at this team at the moment.

This was a wake-up call for me. These types of losses have been commonplace since their last run in 2011, but the two titles have kept me optimistic. It's time to accept that this is the Giants reality.

I have no expectations for this team; only a desire to see improvement from our most decorated veteran to the team's temperament to the coaching staff, whose lack of aggressiveness on both sides of the ball is frustrating.

Grow as a team and have another strong offseason and this team will have something. It's not time to bury this season by any means, but I have definitely buried my expectations in lieu of patience.

Beckham won't be living the kicking net .gif down any time soon. That's the type of shit that happens to middle-aged dads like me. I don't even want to see the fun extremeskins is having with that one. The Skins still suck. They can enjoy their victory, but that team isn't going anywhere ... for the 25th consecutive year.

To muster up the ambition and drive to write a review of yesterday's shit show shows incredible dedication to BBI. My contribution will be in the mail tonight.

I honestly get the anger, but he should learn some composure. Thats some shit I would do, and I expect better out of a professional athlete.

What he did what that net is basically what I do after stubbing my toe. Yeah, those GIFs will last forever.
Looking at the numbers in the daily news

Actually good and solid comps if you ignore the INTs for and against .

We can fix that.
Two ints
idiotsavant : 9/26/2016 3:03 pm : link
A fake punt that worked and they went for it on a 4th which worked.
One overlooked penalty that drove me crazy....
kinard : 9/26/2016 5:47 pm : link
... was Josh Brown kicking the ball out of bounds after we go up 14-3.

Kick it deep; Play some defense and get the ball back.

A stop and a Giants score on the ensuing possession and maybe the Skins are done.

You can't kick the ball straight down the field there? What the fuck....
I have a sinking feeling that come the first weekend of the playoffs
The_Boss : 9/26/2016 6:41 pm : link
We'll be watching one of Philly/Dallas/Redskins hosting the Vikings, Packers, Cards, or Seahawks and pinpointing this game as to why the NYG miss the playoffs for the 5th consecutive season.
" and we let em off the hook"

As frustrating as that loss was
GiantFanInTX : 9/27/2016 1:25 am : link
and as out of control the discipline level was, one thing in particular is still bothering me the most. Eli Manning is still making throws that rookie QBs do not make resulting in interceptions. Manning was picked twice, but he's lucky it wasn't 4 or 5 times. The play in the end zone was an interception, and we got lucky on that one. There were also the two terrible throws he made that was a near pick by Norman and the one short down by the goal line where he threw it right to two Skin defenders. It gets tiresome seeing a 13 year player who has won 2 SBs making these kinds of throws. These are the backbreaking turnovers that your team leader and star QB cannot be making. The interception to end the game was one of the worst passes I've seen him throw. I realize the team is contributing to the turnovers, but the ones that he's committing absolutely should not be happening at this stage of his career.
Now we get to see
gmenatlarge : 9/27/2016 8:55 am : link
if McAdoo can coach, this was a total meltdown on all phases in great part due to undisciplined play. Can he get this team's collective head together and go get a win in Minnesota!

That is who Eli is as a QB. Not going to change after 13 years. He is both poised and panicky in the game and you almost never know what to expect or when. Clearly the good outweighs the bad, but that doesn't mean that we won't hold our breath any time he is throwing the ball into tight quarters (usually near the red zone), facing a relentless pass rush or otherwise flustered. He is capable of brilliance and incompetence and often it happens within the same game. It's Eli.
Mac & Eli are scared of the game clock.
