Ben McAdoo said Vereen had been playing with a triceps injury "for a significant amount of time

On the one hand, that's admirable.

On the other hand, that may have been the reason he fumbled and that was a big part of costing us the game.
crap
Les in TO : 9/26/2016 1:48 pm : link
it's not just his running/catching, he's a super bowl winner with poise and experience and knows how to pick up blitzes. if Jennings is also out for longer, we are suddenly very thin at running back and may have to give 44 a call back :(

True. But lets not act like he hasn't made some plays for us either this season. He has.

Oh definitely. I guess it's about knowing your limits. If you're gonna hurt the team more than you're gonna help, you probably should sit out. If ball security is AT ALL an issue, sit out. I'd rather have guys go for short runs and keep the ball than go for long runs and cough it up.
Oh, rat farts

Next man up and all that
Welp
SomeFan : 9/26/2016 1:56 pm : link
Our offense has one less weapon. Seems that we have some weaknesses on offense - bad TEs (maybe worst in the NFL), mediocre o-line, and average at best RB corp.

Average at best RB corp? What're you talking about? We have Darkwa and Perkins to step right in!
Lets see
Carson53 : 9/26/2016 2:00 pm : link
if Rainey can pick up the slack. I also don't think this
injury caused the fumbling, that's my take.
It will be a loss for sure, next man up.

you know the Pats would before turning it over to kids.
to be honest this may be a blessing in disguise
chris r : 9/26/2016 2:01 pm : link
Vareen isn't a hr threat and is reliable except when he fumbles.

He scares nobody and doesn't keep teams from playing their safeties deep. Rainey and Perkins both have more HR potential.
Rainy and Perkins
eliapple : 9/26/2016 2:03 pm : link
Time. Eli needs to learn how to throw a screen fast.
Jennings roll
giantgiantfan : 9/26/2016 2:04 pm : link
should expand, he can catch the ball. This sucks. I doubt Perkins is ready. Williams might be getting a call.
Perkins gets an opportunity
joe48 : 9/26/2016 2:04 pm : link
As much as I hate to lose Vereen's versatility I am looking forward to seeing Perkins get the reps. I think he will get the opportunity to replace Vereen next year.
I want to make the playoffs this year but if we don't I am not going to lose much sleep. Too many holes to fill in one year.
I didn't like him as a runner, thought he was paper soft
jimmypage : 9/26/2016 2:05 pm : link
I knew they had to run him some so defense respected it but I thought it was overused. Now to find out he was playing threw an injury it makes less sense or it says a bunch bad about the others. They should have let someone else take the grind and preserve him for long haul. Great weapon for 2min offense gone! Mistake by this staff.

Have to agree. Darkwa has been inconsistent in pass pro. Don't watch much college football. Did Perkins have any pass pro responsibility in college?
This is what Perkins was drafted to do.
Brown Recluse : 9/26/2016 2:06 pm : link
Would be nice to see him do it.
I would use Beatty as a blocking TE
Giants2012 : 9/26/2016 2:10 pm : link
and go Darkwa and Palmer. There are enough receiving threats and not enough blocking IMO.
This is a huge loss, but also opens up a huge opportunity for Perkins
David in LA : 9/26/2016 2:10 pm : link
Obviously, he's not close to ready yet, but let's hope for big contributions from PP in the second half of the year.
Vereen
ryanmkeane : 9/26/2016 2:10 pm : link
had fumbled twice this year already. Gotta protect the du...ball!
Holy crap.
Boy Cord : 9/26/2016 2:14 pm : link
That was unexpected. Bodies dropping all around the league. It's part of the game, unfortunately.
Part of the game...
trueblueinpw : 9/26/2016 2:17 pm : link
The Vikings lost their starting QB and their HOF running back. Next man up!
And here comes the injuries
micky : 9/26/2016 2:19 pm : link
Nothing new
I don't know....
BillKo : 9/26/2016 2:21 pm : link
after OBJ, Sheppard, and Cruz isn't Vereen our next best offensive player?

I like Rainey actually, but he had a fumbling problem with TB if I'm not mistaken.

The guy who has done nothing for the shit ass Browns? Hey, Melvin Gordon says hello.
This is why you draft a guy like Perkins
ZogZerg : 9/26/2016 2:29 pm : link
even when RB isn't high on your list at draft time. Injuries make opportunities. Now all those folks crying for Perkins may actually get to see him play sooner than later.
Maybe TE Adams
eliapple : 9/26/2016 2:29 pm : link
Can get activated now.
What a relief
mitch300 : 9/26/2016 2:33 pm : link
My son texted this to me this am and busy at work. I was thinking Vernon. Thought, I don't remember him being injured and we are FU*KED.
holy shit some of you act like your dog just died
Rory : 9/26/2016 2:34 pm : link
its a brutal game , injuries happen in this sport, instead of pointing fingers and falling apart at the seams , fucking deal with it.

Would have liked to see Perkins get a few snaps while active yesterday
27 : 9/26/2016 2:36 pm : link
I understand the staff may have felt he was not ready- but I do not trust Rainey at all. He was a nice hedge as a ST player/backup to Vereen who can catch, but I worry about Rainey taking a larger role and Perkins not getting as many opportunities right away as opposed to when Rainey screws up- which if he plays a large role, will be more of a question of "when" than "if", IMO...

you're speculating the fuck out of everything.
Oh big deal
Joey in VA : 9/26/2016 2:40 pm : link
We still have Rainey and Perkins to roll out there. Vereen is a good dude but he's nothing special and he has cost us dearly with two fumbles in two weeks. Next man up.

CMicks3110 : 9/26/2016 3:00 pm : link
that vereens agent said he's not necessarily done for the year
Only good I can think is that it's not a knee/back/neck/head injury
Stupendamatic : 9/26/2016 3:05 pm : link
He'll be back 100%, until then, next man up.
Welp...
GiantsRage2007 : 9/26/2016 3:06 pm : link
The only good I can take from this is maybe Eli throws to OBJ/Cruz/Shepherd more now...

Darkwa will need to step up, it's his role to fill for sure.

otherwise this sucks
Perkins!!!!!

Question for those who taped the game ....
Manny in CA : 9/26/2016 3:25 pm : link

That last play, Vereen just about had his arm torn off .....

(1) Doesn't that constitute a hold (5 yards or no)

(2) Didn't that action occur beyond 5 yards, sure looked like to me.
Has anyone seen Spiller mentioned?
bhill410 : 9/26/2016 3:33 pm : link
Based upon skill sets he would seem to be a fairly decent matchup for what Vereen brought to the playbook.

The caveat being I didnt see any of his plays this preseason. I know he was getting snaps with the ones but apparently did not do enough to make the squad (unless there were salary cap reasons).
The fact that Vereen had been dealing with it for awhile...
Milton : 9/26/2016 3:44 pm : link
...may explain why Rainey was kept around. That was a move that surprised me.

And as long Jennings is expected back, there is no need to add Williams or any other RB to the roster. On the other hand, if Jennings is going to be a question mark going forward, Williams could serve as Darkwa's backup with Perkins and Rainey competing for the Vereen role.

he got grabbed and spun around , should have been a flag
Perfect timing..
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/26/2016 4:04 pm : link
in that Area Junk criticized Vereen for "running to the doctor" after being used too much.

I guess we know why he did, shitstain.
And..

here's the fuck's stupid comment:

by the end of the game he couldn't beat Cravens on a 2-way go and had to see the doctor he was so worn down
Big Blow
Bluesbreaker : 9/26/2016 4:25 pm : link
We were smart enough to hold onto Rainey .. He is a decent
pass catcher and still has pretty good wheels .
Perkins should start to be worked into the offense I think
his biggest problem is pass protection and knowing the offense
No need to panic were gonna have injuries it's to bad he
provided a spark in the run game much of it on his own .
Did he tear it on
SHO'NUFF : 9/26/2016 5:02 pm : link
that last INT?
Perkins
Marty866b : 9/26/2016 5:14 pm : link
Is a tough kid with probably the best running instincts on the team. Running back is a position that rookies and step in and play immediately only IF they can read the blitz pickups. If Perkins can do this, we should be fine.
That's what I thought, Paulie ....
Manny in CA : 9/27/2016 11:21 pm : link

Not a whimper of a complaint from the Giants' sideline. I think McAdoo (and the rest of the staff) was so bumbed about losing, they ignored Vereen being abused.

Kind of reminded me of Jim Fassel walking away from the San Francisco play-off implosion in 2003.
