It will hurt the 2 minute offense, 3rd and short completions, and hurt when the team is down big and needs to air it out. Having a competent pass catcher out of the backfield like Vereen is important. This sucks.
it's not just his running/catching, he's a super bowl winner with poise and experience and knows how to pick up blitzes. if Jennings is also out for longer, we are suddenly very thin at running back and may have to give 44 a call back :(

Ben McAdoo said Vereen had been playing with a triceps injury "for a significant amount of time
On the one hand, that's admirable.
On the other hand, that may have been the reason he fumbled and that was a big part of costing us the game.
True. But lets not act like he hasn't made some plays for us either this season. He has.
Oh definitely. I guess it's about knowing your limits. If you're gonna hurt the team more than you're gonna help, you probably should sit out. If ball security is AT ALL an issue, sit out. I'd rather have guys go for short runs and keep the ball than go for long runs and cough it up.
Our offense has one less weapon. Seems that we have some weaknesses on offense - bad TEs (maybe worst in the NFL), mediocre o-line, and average at best RB corp.

Average at best RB corp? What're you talking about? We have Darkwa and Perkins to step right in!
As much as I hate to lose Vereen's versatility I am looking forward to seeing Perkins get the reps. I think he will get the opportunity to replace Vereen next year.
I want to make the playoffs this year but if we don't I am not going to lose much sleep. Too many holes to fill in one year.
I didn't like him as a runner, thought he was paper soft
I knew they had to run him some so defense respected it but I thought it was overused. Now to find out he was playing threw an injury it makes less sense or it says a bunch bad about the others. They should have let someone else take the grind and preserve him for long haul. Great weapon for 2min offense gone! Mistake by this staff.

Have to agree. Darkwa has been inconsistent in pass pro. Don't watch much college football. Did Perkins have any pass pro responsibility in college?
even when RB isn't high on your list at draft time. Injuries make opportunities. Now all those folks crying for Perkins may actually get to see him play sooner than later.
I understand the staff may have felt he was not ready- but I do not trust Rainey at all. He was a nice hedge as a ST player/backup to Vereen who can catch, but I worry about Rainey taking a larger role and Perkins not getting as many opportunities right away as opposed to when Rainey screws up- which if he plays a large role, will be more of a question of "when" than "if", IMO...

We still have Rainey and Perkins to roll out there. Vereen is a good dude but he's nothing special and he has cost us dearly with two fumbles in two weeks. Next man up.

you're speculating the fuck out of everything.
"Worry" is not interchangeable with "speculate". Go fuck yourself.

Based upon skill sets he would seem to be a fairly decent matchup for what Vereen brought to the playbook.
The caveat being I didnt see any of his plays this preseason. I know he was getting snaps with the ones but apparently did not do enough to make the squad (unless there were salary cap reasons).
The fact that Vereen had been dealing with it for awhile...
...may explain why Rainey was kept around. That was a move that surprised me.
And as long Jennings is expected back, there is no need to add Williams or any other RB to the roster. On the other hand, if Jennings is going to be a question mark going forward, Williams could serve as Darkwa's backup with Perkins and Rainey competing for the Vereen role.
Next man up. They have a game next week that they need to steal.
You just admitted it?

injury caused the fumbling, that's my take.
It will be a loss for sure, next man up.
He scares nobody and doesn't keep teams from playing their safeties deep. Rainey and Perkins both have more HR potential.

I like Rainey actually, but he had a fumbling problem with TB if I'm not mistaken.
The guy who has done nothing for the shit ass Browns? Hey, Melvin Gordon says hello.

I think Perkins is actually a lot like Duke Johnson. Could even be a better pro.

nah
Darkwa will need to step up, it's his role to fill for sure.
otherwise this sucks
Just don't hit anybody late!
- 2 starting RBs
- 2 starting CBs
- 1 Starting Corner
- 1 Starting RT
That last play, Vereen just about had his arm torn off .....
(1) Doesn't that constitute a hold (5 yards or no)
(2) Didn't that action occur beyond 5 yards, sure looked like to me.
