The future of Elijah Manning

Jerry "Championship" Reese : 9/26/2016 4:30 pm
I love Eli like any other big fan. He is the man and a class act. After yesterday's loss, any reasonable person would question how much left Eli has left in the tank. Will he be worth resigning after the recent contract extension ends in 2018(?) Nassib remains as questionable a replacement as ever after the poor preseason with 5 fumbles 3 interceptions and 40% completion percentage. I believe solid quarterbacks can be found between round 3-5 or even later with really solid scouting and coaching. I think we need to target a player that really has the potential to take over, and we need to do it sooner than later. It would be of great benefit to have Ali's replacement learn from the legend himself with a year or two or apprenticing under Eli. I believe Eli can be solid until around when Peyton was until the age of 38-40.

After the big DT hit Manning hard early on, Eli appeared scared in the pocket and made many poor decisions under pressure (two of which cost us the game, exchange one of those picks for fieldgoals and we win) after the initial sack and fumble rattled him. After this year, he has 2 more seasons on his current contract. This is not at all far fetched or unreasonable to discuss.

lol

Actually, any reasonable person would do the exact opposite of this. Literally the exact opposite.

You're asking if
Old Dirty Beckham : 9/26/2016 4:32 pm : link
we should resign Eli Manning in 2018? There are so many reasons why this question is impossible to answer.

What has the team done the last few years? Do we have the same coach? What does the roster looks like? Does Eli play well? Has he been injured? Are we in position to draft a young QB?

I think you have to realize how stupid your question is.

I concur.

Don't get me wrong. PISSED about the game ending INT. Besides that? I'm fine with Eli.

Somewhat cuttable in 2019 with a dead space of $6.2 million. So no, their is no need to contemplate his future today... The bigger question is Nassib. Who is a free agent after this season. I imagine he'll want a chance to start and test free agency.

I'mRonBurgandy? : 9/26/2016 4:36 pm : link
he looked pretty sharp in games one and two. Yesterday, not so much. He under threw a couple of balls yesterday and had the two bad picks but the Rainey ball, although late and under thrown, did hit the receiver in the hands.

Not worried about Eli.

Much more concerned about the piss poor tackling and the penalties.

I see threads like this I have to assume the person doesn't watch any other games/ how many teams are stuck with absolute garbage at QB. Eli Manning has some weird stink on him where even fans of his own team are oddly ready to dump him with a finger snap. At no point yesterday was I thinking "QB is where are issues lie". Eli Manning is still a high level performer who can win a SB. What more can you ask?
You can get a sold QB in rounds 3-5 or later?
Gman11 : 9/26/2016 4:41 pm : link
Really? Aside from Tom Brady how many solid QBs are there in the league that was drafted after the 5th round? Other than Rhett Bomar, that is.

This guy has actually been around for a while, although he was blessedly dormant for a long time.
Eli is exactly who he has been since about 2009.
Big Blue Blogger : 9/26/2016 4:45 pm : link
2008 was the last year he didn't have to carry the team on his back. More often than not, he does his part and then some. He has a few "WTF?" games every season. Sometimes more. Remember 2013? 2010?
I'd
DanMetroMan : 9/26/2016 4:45 pm : link
be more than fine letting Nassib walk if someone wanted him so badly. I think at very best he's a game manager type. Not someone we one day go "damn it!".

should certainly be looking at high school and college prospects as potential successors. but hopefully that won't be needed for another few seasons. eli is our QB - he's got his warts for sure, but he's also got his super bowl mvp trophies and is still playing at a high level.
Lol
Sonic Youth : 9/26/2016 5:46 pm : link
Out of all the games Eli has played, yesterday is the one that made you question how much Eli has in the tank? WTF??

Eli did throw a bad pick to end the game - but it isn't like we didn't see him doing that same type of shit in 2005, or 2009, or 2012. That's not a knock on Eli, cause yesterday also showed how awesome he can be as well (at one point, wasn't he like 21/28?).

The overarching point is that yesterday, while a frustrating loss, wasn't anything we haven't seen at times over the course of Eli's carer. It's retarded to question him after that game, not what "any reasonable person would do".

If his arm was shot and he wasn't getting the ball down the field, or he looked like his internal clock was broken, I'd agree with you. Yesterday was the same Eli we've always had (and that's not a negative). Sure, it was a bad game, but it's nothing we haven't seen.

Who knows how much longer never he will play. Many factors will determine that none of which have anything to do with yesterday's game.
I understand where you all are coming from in your responses.
Jerry "Championship" Reese : 9/26/2016 8:02 pm : link
This is a discussion for the off season and perhaps 2 years away. On the other hand, the point still stands. Eli is closer to 40 than 30 now, so we have to begin thinking about the post Eli era at some point.

I believe the majority of starting quarterbacks in the league were drafted after round 1, plenty of steals to be had. I don't see anything wrong with scouting out quarterbacks that may be under the radar and able to be snagged in rounds 2-5. I would be happy if we scouted out a potential steal of a 2nd-5th round pick to study under ole Elisha while training to be the future quarterback.

Ultimately, this team has been built to win in the time Eli has left. The front office has been spending more money than ever presumably in an effort to bolster the teams chances with Eli at the helm over the next 3 seasons (or more). Thus, no one wants to think about 4 years down the road when we have a win now football team.

I apologize for the typos made via smart phone, those buttons are just too dam small. I also apologize for making jumping to making this post about 2ish years before it's due which causes much undue stress.

May Ali rest in peace and Mass in find his starting job and payday (doubt he will stay here and i doubt he can really be the future franchise QB).
Holy moly, man...
arcarsenal : 9/26/2016 8:13 pm : link
Part of me almost hopes the Giants are absolutely fucking awful for like 20 years after Eli retires so that all of these spoiled, ungrateful fans can remember what it's really like to spend years and years and years trying to find a franchise QB like the team we share our stadium with.

How does someone watch Eli over the last couple years and start to think he's nearing the end? If Eli has done anything recently, it's show everyone that he still has A LOT left. He made a couple bad decisions yesterday.. big deal. It happens.

I heard some jackass today call the FAN.. claimed to be a Giants fan for 45 years and says "we need to make a change.. this guy keeps throwing games away".. he claimed Tony Romo was "much better", that Nassib would probably be a better alternative and that Eli was barely average.

It's beyond my comprehension what people who hold opinions like this actually see when they watch other NFL games.. or maybe the problem is that they don't.

Eli was going to bring us back until that interception. So I guess I'm in the opposite camp. Interceptions happen. Sloppy play and not finishing routes and penalties killed us that game - not Eli.
Statistically..
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/26/2016 10:07 pm : link
Eli is off to the best start of his career. He's nearly at 70% in completions and is averaging over 300 yards a game passing.

Isn't this the same jackass who spent last week talking about how Hakeem Nicks needed holistic healing and he'd have been OK, built that all the meds caused him to decline? And didn't he blame painkillers for Nicks' compartment syndrome instead of the hit he took that caused a traumatic leg injury?

The stupidity is very strong here.
