Ereck Flowers

I don't know if anyone already started a thread. But just watched the game tape again. I am really liking this guy. He is just massive and moves so quickly and fluidly for his size. He needs some technique work for sure, I often see him just missing his block and having to grab onto defenders, but man, when he gets into someone clean he really pushes them out of the way.
He also had two big penalties.

One of the penalties was pretty specious

even Aikman said he didn't know about that one.

Beat me to it. Even the announcers thought it was a BS call.
Yeah, but every guy he misses

is either a potential hold or blind-side sack. So there can't be a lot of tolerance for misses.
Bill, Flowers looked like one of our better OL out there

No one's saying he doesn't have room for improvement, but it does look like he's showing more bend, and that he's applying the new techniques from Solari.

hey, I'd love to see him be All-Pro. Just have to watch how he does with the speed rushers. I hope he's being a better student than it seemed he used to be. Solari's a good coach.
There are those who don't think much of Flowers, they will point out

every flaw they see but not praise him for being an outstanding player. He is in his second year and will get better and will be an All-Pro!

He is not an outstanding player. Hopefully, one day soon, he will be. At that point I'll be happy to give him his due
Right now

He is way too inconsistent to be considered anything special. He's good for a penalty or two a game and that is not very good. I am still not sure he wouldn't be better as a dominant right tackle or guard.
The guy is 22 yrs old, and just getting his career going.

Left Tackles take time to develop.
That's why you often see guys drafted to play LT start out at Guard or Right Tackle, and then move over.

The Giants did not have that luxury with Flowers...and he was a young rookie to start with.

Once they get his hand punch corrected, and some additional footwork developed, he will be every bit as good as Jumbo Elliot.

They did and do have that luxury. They could have signed a number of LTs this offseason but chose not to. They could also put Beatty at LT as soon as he's ready, but they won't. This year he's 22, last year he was 21, next year he'll be 23. Let's see if he progresses as fast as he ages.
Flowers reminds me of a spider. If you fly into his web, you're toast. But if you fly around his web, you're fine. He needs to build a bigger web.

Beatty has not played in 2 years, and got blown up on the one play he got in for on Sunday.
All these LTs the could have signed "but chose not to"...well, if Flowers is the LT of the future, and he has a year on the job, why move him to another position now?

They just need to keep developing his technique and then they'll have a long-term answer vs. a 1 or 2 year rental. The kid is talented, aggressive, tough, and probably most importantly, the game is important to him.

I'll take my chances with Flowers in the long term.

The Oline is getting better...it's not all the way there yet, but it's on the way.
David Diehl took the most circuitous route to left tackle
widmerseyebrow : 9/26/2016 10:58 pm : link
And I don't think his psyche was worse for it. If you have 3.5 quality starters on the line, it would have been lauded to go BPA as it were in free agency and grab one of those left tackles who are currently starting for other teams.
It seems to me that his play in these first two games is a night and
yatqb : 9/26/2016 11:09 pm : link
day improvement over his first year. He seems quicker and when he latches on to you it's over. He certainly needs to become more consistent, and to stop trying to manhandle guys at the end of plays (as this leads to some of his penalties and is totally unnecessary). But I now could see him developing into a franchise LT, something I never thought he could be after last season. He seemed like a RT to me at the time, but now I see the potential as a lot higher than that.

*** THIS!***

QBs and Olinemen, specifically LTs, take time to develop.
We want these guys to be All Pros from day one, but it typically does not work like that.

I am more encouraged about the Oline today than at any point since 2010. There will still be some bumps on the road, but they are on the right track.

I don't think his psyche would have been effected either.
My question was, if you know he's your LT of the future, and he already has a year's experience, why move him?

At no point, as much as we love him, was Diehl considered to be a future stalwart at LT during his first few seasons. In fact, I am fairly certain they saw him as a great RT or RG. Diehl was a stud due to his work ethic and toughness. Flowers very well could add athleticism to that equation.

Great insight here. The Two time Super Bowl MVP had two interceptions and a fumble. Flowers had a strong game for a 2nd year player who was a high pick based on potential and is taking a nice step. I hate ignorant fans like you...bitter
It is almost like..
FatMan in Charlotte : 9/27/2016 10:17 am : link
people who crapped on him regularly during the preseason are reluctant to give credit for him looking much improved.

Imagine that!

I was one his biggest retractor last year but admit he has been better this year. I was worried because he didnt look good at all during the preseason either.

However, he needs to clean up the penalties tho.
Flowers will be a star LT. His game is getting better every week
Victor in CT : 9/27/2016 3:17 pm : link
He needs some polish, but you can definitely see the improvement every week. He's a physical marvel and he's nasty. I'm a buyer
I think Flowers has a lot of potential
cnewk : 9/27/2016 4:35 pm : link
And in the first two games I thought it looked improved and more consistent. But I didn't think he had a good game against the Redskins. He has a tendency to let his arms get too high and they get up around the neck and head of the defender. This resulted in a couple penalties and a couple that could easily have been called but weren't.
