I don't know if anyone already started a thread. But just watched the game tape again. I am really liking this guy. He is just massive and moves so quickly and fluidly for his size. He needs some technique work for sure, I often see him just missing his block and having to grab onto defenders, but man, when he gets into someone clean he really pushes them out of the way.
hey, I'd love to see him be All-Pro. Just have to watch how he does with the speed rushers. I hope he's being a better student than it seemed he used to be. Solari's a good coach.
He is not an outstanding player. Hopefully, one day soon, he will be. At that point I'll be happy to give him his due
That's why you often see guys drafted to play LT start out at Guard or Right Tackle, and then move over.
The Giants did not have that luxury with Flowers...and he was a young rookie to start with.
Once they get his hand punch corrected, and some additional footwork developed, he will be every bit as good as Jumbo Elliot.

They did and do have that luxury. They could have signed a number of LTs this offseason but chose not to. They could also put Beatty at LT as soon as he's ready, but they won't. This year he's 22, last year he was 21, next year he'll be 23. Let's see if he progresses as fast as he ages.
Flowers reminds me of a spider. If you fly into his web, you're toast. But if you fly around his web, you're fine. He needs to build a bigger web.

Beatty has not played in 2 years, and got blown up on the one play he got in for on Sunday.
All these LTs the could have signed "but chose not to"...well, if Flowers is the LT of the future, and he has a year on the job, why move him to another position now?
They just need to keep developing his technique and then they'll have a long-term answer vs. a 1 or 2 year rental. The kid is talented, aggressive, tough, and probably most importantly, the game is important to him.
I'll take my chances with Flowers in the long term.
The Oline is getting better...it's not all the way there yet, but it's on the way.
*** THIS!***
QBs and Olinemen, specifically LTs, take time to develop.
We want these guys to be All Pros from day one, but it typically does not work like that.
I am more encouraged about the Oline today than at any point since 2010. There will still be some bumps on the road, but they are on the right track.
I don't think his psyche would have been effected either.
My question was, if you know he's your LT of the future, and he already has a year's experience, why move him?
At no point, as much as we love him, was Diehl considered to be a future stalwart at LT during his first few seasons. In fact, I am fairly certain they saw him as a great RT or RG. Diehl was a stud due to his work ethic and toughness. Flowers very well could add athleticism to that equation.
Imagine that!
Imagine that!
I was one his biggest retractor last year but admit he has been better this year. I was worried because he didnt look good at all during the preseason either.
However, he needs to clean up the penalties tho.
