“You know what I want most of all?’’ Big Papi told The Post on Tuesday at JetBlue Park. “I would love it if the fans at Yankee Stadium gave me a standing ovation.’’
Please, please, PLEASE don't let me down, Yankee fans. Boo the hell out of this asshole.
As a diehard Yankees fan, I will be sickened by any so-called "fans" who don't show him respect.
Absolute bullshit. What did ARod get from Fenway in his last game there? Why does Shrek deserve more? What the hell is with the double standard for this guy?
Fuck him.

but there's no way i'd stand and condone Ortiz. He's a liar, a cheater, and an asshole. And he's gotten away with all 3 while getting filthy rich in the process. I'm good sitting in my seat.
And since I know someone is going to bring this up Â
Mariano Rivera is possibly the most universally beloved player of my lifetime, a humble, gentle man who was generous and gracious in every way. Derek Jeter didn't routinely scream at umps, didn't harass official scorers to give him hits instead of errors, and wasn't a roider. Drawing false equivalencies between those two guys and Shrek is absurd.
The real comps for Ortiz are guys like ARod, Bonds, and McGwire. Despite them all being far superior players, none of them got weepy sendoffs in rival ballparks.
not sure if anyone is paying attention, but I'm going to guess it will be almost 50/50 Red Sox and Yankees fans in attendance.
Every time I got to Yankees Red Sox in the Bronx, even if the Yankees are in contention there are a ton of Sox fans there.
but if the Yankees fans there in attendance don't make some noise voicing their displeasure with Ortiz I'll be disappointed.
There is no way he deserves a standing ovation from Yankees fans, he's definitely not lofted to that status since he's a documented cheater and a foul-mouthed, loathsome individual.
I hate that the media, the fans, and baseball in general celebrate Ortiz.
And there is no way the Yankees fans should be anything but hostile toward him.
I'll lose some respect for the Yankees fans if he's cheered. It would be almost like Mets fans giving Chase Utley a standing O.

Very good point and you are correct with the comparisons. Listening to the TV broadcasters, I detect a hint of incredulousness about his ability to hit better at 40 y/o than in the preceding 10 years.
Watching Teixeira disintegrate before our eye at 36 and ARod's fall between August last year and this year should be a red flag. And he can't even walk his feet are so bad.

ARod didn't get respect from his own fucking manager and you want Boston to do more?
Yankees fans obsession with Ortiz is borderline psychotic Â
I said they deserve the same treatment. Go back to grilling threads, Peter, you're out of your element.
I'll dumb it down for you. You are bitching about Ortiz. You are bitching that Boston did not give ARod respect. I pointed out that ARod's own manager didn't give him respect. Got that so far? Why should Boston give ARod more respect than his own manager? It's a lousy comparison.
A better one would be Ortiz getting the same respect that Jeter received.
really don't understand the love for this guy who disrespects the with game with every ab :-). have to know he's doing some type of PED with this performance at his age; along with turning his career completely around from being waived by the twins? and all the bat flipping and antics - and no one ever throws inside at him? never understood the respect he gets from pitchers especially yankee pitchers. would totally boo him.
RE: RE: Yankees fans obsession with Ortiz is borderline psychotic Â
But here is my one exception, there is no way any Yankee fan in good standing could ever, and I mean ever, cheer this hypocrite cheater, liar, and complainer. I am at loss to explain many things in this world, but the respect this cheater gets compared to other cheaters is just astonishing to me. I honestly think he might make the HOF.
Just a couple of random thoughts
1. Before he got busted, he gave an excuse that he didn't know what they slipped into his shakes in the DR as a possible alibi. Innocent people do that, right.
2. He never apologized like Pettite
3. He is obviously still on this stuff, what he has done the last four years is unprecedented at his age except by PED users.
As a diehard Yankees fan, I will be sickened by any so-called "fans" who don't show him respect.
Good lord. Go see that endocrinologist. TRT treatment stat. And this is not a micro aggression. It's a macro one. Nut up son. Patton would slap you silly
as I've said before, I think it's dumb and fairly wrong for an opposing team to even acknowledge a player, no matter who or the circumstances. Ortiz, Rivera, Jeter, ARod (who I don't think should have been booed at Fenway either (although to be fair, the talk on that day was actually whether Yankee fans would boo him or not when he went back home for his last game and why Girardi was saying he wouldn't even get in a game at Fenway), Jacki Robinson, or Ghandi. If the uniform is different, I'm not doing anything for you. Period.
So, I don't care about any of all that for Ortiz. All I care about, is that they lower their Magic Number by one tonight.
David Ortiz is a nonentity. He some how slipped through the cracks of PED condemnation. It's not hard to imagine why, when the best crack at analysis of the issue by the league was headed by someone close to the team he played.
The retirement parade is goofy and unnecessary. It was lame when Rivera and Jeter did it, and more lame still when players who mean a fraction to the game do it.
Ortiz should take a bow before the game and head back to the dugout. This whole gifting ceremony is about as cheesey as it gets.
many opponents. But a guy who is held to a double standard through no doing of his own is perplexing to me.
From being a skinny ass David Arias who was almost relegated to a career in the minor leagues, to being a roided-out jackass who might not only make the HoF as a DH, but also as a steroid user is baffling to me.
The amount of shit given to Bonds, Clemens, A-Rod, McGwire and Sosa compared to this clown is absurd, and we are talking about a guy who has never admitted to anything, never apologized for anything. Never owned up to a damn thing.
For him to be getting the accolades he is while all-time greats were shunned and run out of the league is a crime.
I could respect the hell out of Red Sox like Carlton Fisk, Pedro, Varitek, Jim Rice and others, even if I didn't like them at all, but this fat, piece of shit? No fucking way.
and I know the Red Sox fans turn out in good numbers on a regular basis - but I know at least 5-6 people who are buying tickets to this one *just* to boo.
I hate the fucker, but not enough to plunk down hard earned cash for the right to boo him.

and THANK the Yankee fans for putting up with MLB using Alex Rodriguez as the league scapegoat thus allowing him to continue hitting home runs and avoid the very public embarrassment and shame shouldered almost solely by ARod.
Fuck him. And fuck honoring him.
RE: RE: Notice that all 3 of the Sox's Series wins Â
A better one would be Ortiz getting the same respect that Jeter received.
There are pretty simple differences between Ortiz and Jeter, which have been explained quite clearly in this thread. That comparison is a pretty hard core fail.

Not when you consider what each guy meant for his respective team. It's a lot closer than comparing ARod to Ortiz.
the Mo ceremony included a jab at him and so they went over the top on Jeter. But whether or not either was appropriate, neither had the black mark that Ortiz does. And FFS, the phony nice guy bullshit that has been shoveled toward us about Ortiz after the phone and the RBI whining and all of his other bullshit, he's a heckuva hitter, pharmaceutically enhanced or not, but he's not Jesus.
FUCK THAT! Boo that man
Absolute bullshit. What did ARod get from Fenway in his last game there? Why does Shrek deserve more? What the hell is with the double standard for this guy?

Actually any thread that mentions Ortiz is the link.
And it is actually funny to light the match and watch the place burn down.
It pisses me off to see that nobody seems to care that he must be doping, but I also see the players like the guy.

Screw him
He failed a test. So many players are and were given pariah status who never failed a test or even had seriously compelling evidence they cheated.
the celebration of this cheater is bizarre.

You are lost.
My, what a big head you have, Peter, as if your comment was worth bothering with when it was so self-evidently stupid.
