Cliff Burton the bassist from Metallica was killed .I cannot believe that it happened 30 years ago today, I remember wearing my denim vest with the big Metallica ride the lighting patch on the back to the Giants vs Saints game and someone coming up to me saying that Cliff had died ,I thought he was joking with me till I got home and my friend told me It was true ,I was such a huge metallica fan in 85 and 86 that I really was upset ..I really wished Metallica would have released their new album today and not in November that would have been perfect …RIP CLIFF
I'll definitely be cueing up Orion later on today

Them and Metal Church. Was also seeing Motorhead and Megadeth that week. Both shows were cancelled.

This was a crushing blow to music. He was an incredible talent.

I saw this same show at the capital theater in Passaic, NJ. We were surprised that the concert wasn't cancelled but it was in December. The band had a couple of months to prepare and move on. Matter of fact it was the same week that Bavaro dragged half the niner defense.
didn't see big fred's post

not sure they played at MSG but I know they played in Passaic. I never heard of Metal Church until I saw them that night. Barely remember them. Metallica opened with Battery. Is there a better opening song? Nope.

I always listened to Battery right before a race. Best pump-up music ever.

Heh... I really didn't get fully into Metallica until MoP... but when I wrestled I had copy on cassette of Am I Evil that I recorded I think from the B side of a friend's 45... lol, which I blasted getting ready for tournament finals. It was in a rotation of cassettes in my walkman that included Zebra, Sabbath, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden.... lol

"For Whom the Bell Tolls" at an outdoor festival in 1985. Insane what Burton does with the bass guitar.

I think Robert sounds good playing Cliff's compositions.
His creativity is irreplaceable and that's what's been so tragic about his passing imo.
