Chris Brown*-Max Lapierre*-Tanner Glass

It was an ENG, but still!
It's all part of our master plan, making him seem just good enough to keep, so at the opportune moment he reverts to the form you all so much admire.

Anyone watching Canada vs Europe?

Good game but the best part is this...

ESPN needs to get the NHL back - ( New Window )

Jooris is hurt

New York Rangers ✔@NYRangers
AV said Jooris "tweaked his groin" at the start of the game and that the team will recall a player cut from camp earlier today. #NYR
Jesus.. Crosby is just undeniable.
Davisian : 9/27/2016 10:36 pm : link
He's got the rings, he's got the international bonifides and now he's being double shifted (with good reason) in a best on best final..

Hate the little shit, but he's the best generational talent since the whole Gretzky/Lemieux transition..

I'll accept Yzerman as a counter argument, but not really. Sakic, Lindros? nope..

Toews has the resume, but he's playing in the same era and there's not really any doubt who's better.

Fuck that yinzer cunt.

He's still a cunt

Utterly loathsome in every way.
Dennis Seidenberg to Brooklyn; Kyle Quincey to NJ

7 teams were in on Seidenberg, including Ottawa. All wanted to wait, but Isles step up. 1 yr, $1 million. Good deal.
Seidenberg likely to get the Brian Strait 7th D role
pganut : 9/28/2016 12:58 pm : link
A 1 yr, $1M insurance policy; not a terrible pickup.
We've had a 35+ year old defenseman on the team
Mike in Long Beach : 9/28/2016 1:08 pm : link
for years now, whether Viznovsky or Zidlicky. Makes sense. Adds both depth and experience. Though that 1 million definitely means there's simply no room for any more noteworthy additions to to forward core unless Halak gets moved at some point. I don't think we even have 2 million in space now.
Also, what does this mean for Mayfield?
Mike in Long Beach : 9/28/2016 1:12 pm : link
I had him penciled in for about 40 games this year.
Mayfield is either the first or second D call up
pganut : 9/28/2016 1:44 pm : link
Pelech might be ahead of him.

You're right, we have very little room as it stands now, but I'd expect a trade before end of camp, whether a wing (Bailey) or goalie, or both.

Pganut, doesn't the fact that Mayfield signed a one-way day indicate the Islanders probably have him ahead of Pelech? Correct me if that logic is wrong, but that's what I remember reading at the time.
one-way *deal
Mike in Long Beach : 9/28/2016 1:54 pm : link
not "day"

You'd be correct if Mayfield is on a 1-way. I must have missed that he did sign that one, not doubting you on that.
Seidenberg
Metnut : 9/28/2016 2:10 pm : link
was almost (but not quite) Brian Strait level bad for Boston the past few years if you look at some of the metrics. Supposedly, he looks great in the WC though, so this could be a buy-low opportunity for the Islanders.

I don't mind him as injury insurance or even giving him ice time if he can outperform others but it would be really frustrating if he gets entitlement veteran minutes over better players like Brian Strait did.
Seidenberg is decent depth
Davisian : 9/28/2016 2:12 pm : link
But I do not understand the Quincy signing by the Devils. Guy is a total sled. But at least he takes a lot of bad penalties, which is nice.

re: Seidenberg it's not the player, it's the usage
DinDC : 9/28/2016 2:43 pm : link
Stay at home dman who can play both sides. Tons of experience. Has looked good in WC playing with Josi.
Obviously has skating deficiencies, some puck management problems. Far better passer than Strait or Mayfield.
All depth defenseman have warts, that is why they aren't top 6.

the problem is that the coaching staff sees fit to deploy deficient veterans far more than their talent warrants.

If Dennis gets spot duty with a mobile partner there will be few issues. If he gets 40+ games like Strait that's on coach.

Sorokin has not regressed after his insane rookie year in the KHL.

I think he gave up a goal last game, so his GAA is up to .937 or something.

If he's not the top G prospect in hockey, he's top 2 or 3.

He's insane. Picked right up where he left off. 7-0 this year with a .954 save pctg, a GAA of 0.93 and 3 shutouts. Granted, the KHL is wacky, but no question he's a very good goaltender.

he just turned 21, so hopefully he can continue to develop in the KHL until his contract is up.

He's not the top in hockey. And at 6 feet even, there will always be massive question marks over him until/unless he proves it in the NHL.

Also, I dont really believe in goalie prospects. So much of stardom at the position is mental (toughness, approach, prep) and that stuff cant be fully tested until guys reach the NHL. That's why you never see teams getting real value for goalie prospects. Though I've noticed you can now get real value for very inexperienced NHL goalies.
I like
feelflows : 9/28/2016 6:54 pm : link
Saros (Nashville).. he's only 5'10, but I think he'll be a stud.

Samsonov (Caps) is much bigger. He's 6'4 203lbs and only 19. He looks good this early KHL season. I saw the highlights of him vs Medvescak, and he has the goods (which sucks.. I hope he stays in the KHL). Mike Pelino raves about him.

You're right, goaltending prospects are the hardest to project, for sure.

I'm not sure that Sorokin's height will be an issue. But certainly he does have a legit body of work to base some projections on. While the K isn't the NHL, it is the "2nd best" league the world has to offer, and he's playing against developed men, quite a few of whom have played in the NHL. That, opposed to playing for a USHL team or at University of Minnesota-Mankato comprised of teens or overaged juniors and getting excited over gaudy numbers.
Shestyorkin has a lot of promise too

no doubt..but who cares? Let him develop in the KHL a bit against grown men. He's only 20, so a few years in the KHL will season him better than playing in the AHL.
