depending on how the servers hold up after release. Halo was a disaster for a while so i won't pick up Battlefield until after its tested by the masses.
Gears 1 was one of the best games ever, but I think its run its course, no real interest in 4.
I'm actually looking forward to a lot of the handheld stuff coming out. Tons of RPG's are getting remastered and put on the DS. I'm not jumping to FF15 in November until its been out for a good amount of time, i'm hearing/reading too much negatives on it.
starting with its fantastic maps. The new ones are just boring experiences, recycling an old formula with updated graphics and ridiculous add ons. This new one goes to space now? No thanks.

The last COD was one of the better ones in a while. But this remake was a long time coming. Unfortunately I don't have any of the new systems. Might have to get one soon.
Mafia 3 (so long as the reviews aren't completely bad). On the fence about Tomb Raider. I loved Uncharted 4 (and am playing through 2 & 3 via the collection) but might be a bit tired of that type of game. Is Tomb Raider a must play game regardless?
Also, anyone ever play Europa Universalis 4? Crusader Kings 2 was a bit too much for me, but this game looks a little bit more streamlined. Is it easy to pick up with a bit of effort?
too often lag leads to goals, and that just sucks in a sport with little margin for error. No idea if its better on PES but the gameplay is supposedly better. The lack of licensing makes it a tough sell, however.

Personally, I thought the last Tomb Raider was better than any of the Uncharted games. Much darker, more serious tone and much lighter on all the climbing. I haven't played this Tomb Raider yet though. I'm looking forward to it.
I have a pretty good router, but I've had very few issues over the past 4 years playing FIFA online. And for the next few months, I'll play almost exclusively that way.

Now would be a good time as most places are giving you a free game with console purchase until saturday. Microsoft store gives you the crew free and your choice of 1 free game for $229 on the quantum break console. Gamestop gives you a free game on top of the bundle games as well

I have to get back into CKII. I put so much time into that game.
Does your friend know anything else about any of the other Square games upcoming? FF15 primarily, but I've been considering getting Worlds of Final Fantasy.
Don't know yet...I ordered it only yesterday after checking out reviews of each.
The licensing issue bothers me some, but I've also been bothered by the gameplay in FIFA the last couple years. It's basically a coin flip for me so I thought I'd try PES this time around.

He recently left and started his own company so I don't think he knows about the final product of FF15. A year ago he told me not to get my hopes up, and judging by the demos and footage, i'd say he was right. Just looks like a really forced game, trying to tie reality WAY too much into what is supposed to be fantasy. How much time is going to be wasted tricking out my car and upgrading my emo clothes? The battle looks interesting, but haven't seen anything not done before.

I don't know. It looks like it's blending a lot of genres of games honestly. I don't know how I feel about it, but I'm trying to reserve judgement. I didn't dislike the demo. It was very action RPG, and you can tell by some of the trailers that there's stealth elements to some of the gameplay as well. I am trying to stay hopeful.
looks great. I like the idea of a very open world to start that narrows and becomes more linear as the plot picks up toward the end of the game. The videos I've seen of the characters walking around and exploring the beautiful world make me eager to explore, and the combat looks promising.

I'm the exact opposite. Take FF7 for example (and countless other RPG's. Spending the first 5-7 hours in Midgar, on a pretty linear path leads up to escaping and having a whole world to explore. I absolutely loathe the bait and switch of starting with full exploration then dropping you into FF13 linearity.
My other big problem is the character drawings. No doubt the open world is stunning, as it should be. But the players look like they will be the worst of the series which is incomprehensible. Emo and hunched over isn't something I can look at for 100 straight hours.
I'm willing to give the game a chance as I am a tremendous fan of the series, but I also haven't been satisfied with an installment since FFX so there's a lot of rightfully earned skepticism on my part.
but the dialogue in those games (and most Eastern video games) is so awful. Is it so hard to get competent voice actors who actually speak American like Americans?

I agree a lot of what you said. Mainly, that FF13 was a complete disaster, FF7 is timeless, and I hope the plot for FF15 doesn't overdo it with EMOness. I've gotten a bit more of a western vibe from what I've seen so we'll have to see how it turns also.
Also, I'm not sure that the end of FF15 is FF13 style linearity. I think it's more in that while you'll still have access to the open world, the objectives that you'll need to meet to move the plot forward will become increasingly linear as the game approaches the climax. I don't see it as a bait-and-switch, and if the plot is actually good, it seems natural to me for a JRPG.
Mafia 3 (so long as the reviews aren't completely bad).
I'll be skeptical of Mafia 3 regardless of its reviews. Mafia 2's reviews were good, but I felt it was totally inferior to its predecessor.
I actually havn't played any of the prior Mafia games. Just read a few previews for this and I'm looking forward to exploring their version of New Orleans and the footage available so far looks great.

One of the biggest downfalls of the RPG genre has been the awful localization. Also, JP storytelling appears to be very different from western storytelling. They rely on a lot of tropes and archetypes. At least in RPGs. This has been my main problem with these games over time. They just feel stagnant and the characters are increasingly hard to connect to.
They are not adding any additional content. I believe it will match or almost match the aesthetic quality of a ENB modded Skyrim. But, the main reason I am awaiting for it is because it will be 64 bits as oppose to the original 32 bits. Good for those with heavily modded Skyrim.

I really want to like it. But if the storytelling is as awful as FF13's was, great gameplay won't make a difference.
They just never had anything resembling a coherent storyline and combined it with a series of made up words and terms that did nothing but confuse and create a convoluted world with characters that no one cared about.

Nice, i'm perfectly fine with an updated look and feel. I never finished it on 360, but I may restart it with a better character build especially with updated graphics.
and it ruined the game for me. I had a harem of b#tches dressed in BDSM outfits who would do all of my fighting. It got kind of boring so I stopped playing.

As long as there are no missions in which your assignment is to move a bunch of boxes from one side of a warehouse to another, the game may be worth picking up.
Curious to hear any anecdotes regarding this WaPo article that posted last Friday. Been on my mind since I read it and figured this was as good a place as any to seek feedback.

Lol that's literally all I hear about the new CoD, everybody wants to play remaster (member berries) nobody wants to play the new trash.
BF4 was a tremendous game, but super buggy for it's first months. Hence i will wait.
So its like Madden then?
You're dead to me.
I played the FIFA beta and liked the tweaks to the gameplay and I'm looking forward to doing the new storymode once I get fatigued with Ultimate Team.

As they probably should, Arkham Knight was such a disapointment to me.. I am a big fan and I have played all those games repeatedly.

Ditto.
There will be mods for XBone, none for PS4.
