Biggest concern going into Minnesota

est1986 : 9/28/2016 9:03 am
And maybe my only 'big concern' going into Monday night is Everson Griffen 4 Sacks, Linval Joseph 3 Sacks, Danielle Hunter 3 Sacks. All three are truly awesome, physical, athletic Dlineman. Not to mention Anthony Barr at the edge. It could be a long day for Flowers, Pugh, Richburg. Jerry and Hart. It will definitely prove to be a good test to see how good we really are up front.

What about you, what's your biggest concern going into Minny?
turnovers
I Love Clams Casino : 9/28/2016 9:04 am : link
not the apple kind either
Uh,
Doomster : 9/28/2016 9:11 am : link
Let's see...OL......dropped balls.....fumbles....stupid penalties.....play calling....int's......ST's play.....

The game is winnable, if the Giant's wounded can play, and we play mistake free football...
Linval Joseph...
superspynyg : 9/28/2016 9:15 am : link
Why does that name sound so familiar?
Discipline and turnovers...
That’s Gold, Jerry : 9/28/2016 9:18 am : link
are my two biggest concerns. Both cost us the game Sunday and could have cost us against New Orleans.

Minny is very good and Zimmer is proving to be a great coach. They are well prepared and play hard.

We have to play a good, smart game.
Eli Apple and DRC

Not playing
Eli Manning

Eli is my concern in this game.
How about keeping Eli alive
GiantsRage2007 : 9/28/2016 9:23 am : link
and him not throwing 3 pick-6 ints?

That team just kills us...

Nice to see a solid #2 pick just walk out the door when entering his prime.
Hope

Flowers is becoming one of the top OT's in the league, I trust in him a lot for show in this type of games what he is able to do. Pugh as LG is more than ok. Richburgh was stupid against Redskins being ejected after 2 Unsportsmanlikeconduct flags, but is a top Center. Jerry in a good day would be ok. Newhouse was the real hole of the OL. Bobby Hart is simply a patch, but a patch better than the starter. With Donnell/Tye helping in the blocks I don't expect an easy game for Vikings front-7.

On the other side of the ball I haven't any doubt. Vikings offense is infamous. All O-Linemen are terrible (but Matt Kalil). They are averaging 2.1 YPC (our weakness). Bradford is not a real threat. Our D has looked really well with signs of improvement.

20 points should be enough to win this game. Avoid mistakes is the key to perform it IMO.

stop with the pick 6 shit. It was 9 years ago.
Victor in CT : 9/28/2016 9:31 am : link
Eli is probably the only player left from that game.

Eli has got to make quicker decisions...
BamaBlue : 9/28/2016 9:44 am : link
He holds on to the ball too long and has very little ability to elude the excellent pass rushers on the Vikings. It's likely the Vikings will be able to maintain a 4 man pass rush, so Eli's going to have to throw short routes, or roll-out on deeper routes. If there's nothing there, Eli has got to throw the ball away...
One thing is if eli takes a hit like he did vs wash
micky : 9/28/2016 9:45 am : link
His streak may be ended. This dl is dangerous vs this ol

I suppose he's learned nothing since then? Will feel obligated to force throws to a whiny, veteran dooshbag named Jeremy Shockey? Have Darren Sharper and the same Minny scheme against him?

These posts remind of the TV "team A hasn't beaten team B in 25 years" and then mention later that they have played each other twice in that time. Completely irrelevant.

still acting like losing Linval was a franchise crushing blow for us...please. Would it be nice to have him still? Sure. He's played pretty well for them, just about as well as expected. We can't re-sign every draft pick we select.

Preach.
My biggest concern
ryanmkeane : 9/28/2016 11:03 am : link
is FINISHING drives against this defense. Our O has looked great between the 20s, but let's finish some drives for 4 quarters maybe??

Their offense doesn't concern me really. Diggs is nice, but i think Bradford will have too much pressure to find him deep. If we can force Bradford into chucking the ball downfield I think we win this thing.
Cut down the mental mistakes
timintey : 9/28/2016 11:08 am : link
If we don't take stupid, drive killing penalties or turn the ball over, particularly on their side of the field, we have a great shot at winning. Minnesota has a great front 7, but their secondary is very meh, imo. We should also be able to contain their offense. Just stop being stupid!!!
My biggest concern is who wins
Hades07 : 9/28/2016 11:10 am : link
I'd prefer it will be the Giants.
Keeping Eli Healthy
Jeffrey : 9/28/2016 11:15 am : link
For all his negatives, both actual and perceived, there is absolutely no hope for this season without him starting every game.

You have to scratch your head. On paper to me they don't look as dominate as they play. Just solid fundemantal team.

I agree with you for the most but....pretty well?
vikings defense
Giants86 : 9/28/2016 11:41 am : link
is the real deal. Going to be very surprised it we come out of there with a victory. They are sound defensively.
It's not just the mental mistakes I worry about.
Jimmy Brown : 9/28/2016 11:59 am : link
It's the physical ones too...fumbles, drops, etc.
Zimmer if I remember correctly
Bluesbreaker : 9/28/2016 12:35 pm : link
His Defense always gives Eli Fits and now there defense
has emerged as a Very Good One .
If we don't get some turnovers and make some plays with
the special teams this could get real ugly .
Our O-line needs to be at it's best without mistakes
and hope we catch the Vikes napping a bit ....
I don't have a good feeling at all about this game ..
That said we should win .lol

I'll admit that I'm just looking at the stats - but Linval had pretty much idential tackles and sack numbers his first 2 years in Minnesota as with the Giants. Doesn't really strike me as some amazing difference he's making.

They are all incredibly physical and swarm to the ball. Similar to the Seahawks D at its height a few years back. Maybe not as good, but similar.

Become one of the top DTs in the league. Minny got a bargain. If Linval was a free agent this year, he would get twice what they are paying him.

Yea, well... he threw 2 picks last week and had at least one other dropped. And he forced a throw to Tye (who, by all accounts isn't nearly as douchy as Shockey lol)

The thread asked what's my biggest concern? It's Eli and throwing picks. Minny has a legit top 5 defense, so I'm concerned.

Yes, he threw a bunch of pick 6's vs them in the past. It happened. Relevant or irrelevant, it happened. Let's hope for the best, but my concern remains.

If Eli stays clean and doesn't throw any int this week I think we win, fwiw.
Eli typically does not take many sacks
AnnapolisMike : 9/28/2016 1:22 pm : link
I don't expect this game to be any different. Even last year the Giants did reasonably well in pass protection.

My concern is whether we will the see defense from the first two games...or the last game.
Biggest concern
pjcas18 : 9/28/2016 1:23 pm : link
is health. If the Giants don't have Apple and DRC this could be a long day. Jennings too.

Otherwise I have no concern. the Vikings run game doesn't scare me, they have one receiver, and their QB is mediocre, worse if they can get a pass rush on.

On the defensive side, the Vikings excel, but if the Giants want to be the man they have to beat the man (WTF does that even mean?) it means if they want to be a top 10 offense, they need to impose their will on a top 10 defense and I think they will.

If DRC and Apple can play I have no concerns for Monday night.

Have you heard of Jonathon Hankins?
The cornerback position.
shockeyisthebest8056 : 9/28/2016 4:23 pm : link
If the Giants can't keep Collins close to the line because they need to protect Wade/Hall, then the run defense suffers too. They need to prevent big plays and make the Vikes one dimensional.

Having these 3 WRs and not playing outdoors in 30 degree weather will make it easier for the offense than it was last season. Cam Newton was actually playing until he hurt his ankle. After that, he was awful and was taking sacks after holding the ball for a year. But it will all come down to the o-line.
As QBs get older,
oldog : 9/28/2016 6:50 pm : link
they may get less mobile, and some even a little gunshy. Is this a problem with the Giants? I am waiting to consider the evidence. There have been circumstances that have raised preliminary alerts.
I want to win this game...
Dan in the Springs : 9/28/2016 7:05 pm : link
it may have playoff implications, but to be honest, the biggest concern I have is team health. I don't want to risk DRC's groin or Apple's hammy just to try and get a win. I'm worried that OV may have a bad hand and is just going to play through it.

I'm not saying let's throw in the towel on the game, just recognizing that this game is not as important as the 12 that follow it, and I wouldn't risk anyone's health for the season just to try to win in Minny. I worry about certain players trying to do just that (see DRC's comments in his interview about returning to the field, for instance).

Not sure what you mean by gunshy, but I don't think Eli has become less likely to pull the trigger.

Perhaps you mean he's concerned about being hit, and isn't taking the time to read the field. In that case, I completely agree that there have been some preliminary alerts.
