Sterling Shepard risk routes

VCruz80 : 9/28/2016 9:18 am
I have seen him in this 3 games running some cross routes like slants, grapping the ball but receiving very hard hits for a WR with that size.

He only lost 5 games in college so I don't say he is injury prone, I say that if McAdoo continues to send Shepard this type of routes, He has a high risk of injury.
I find it interesting
Randy in CT : 9/28/2016 9:21 am : link
that some here are so anxious/insecure about things that:

a) they have no control over.
b) they understand very little about the nuances of things.
c) they keep forgetting/ignoring that football is a violent sport and injuries can happen even without contact.

So, we see threads about worrying over nothing continually.
So what are you saying?

He should stop running crossing routes?

I guess he is not the most appropiate guy to run that routes, maybe a TE?

Silly post. One of the basic tenets of the WCO is:
Victor in CT : 9/28/2016 9:35 am : link
if the defense is in a zone, stay outside, if in man, cross over the middle with slant routes
You'd prefer to kill
VenteSette : 9/28/2016 9:37 am : link
Cruz or Beckham? Somebody has to go over the middle and the tight ends suck.

I understand what you say but, Is in your opinion safe to send Shepard run 10-12 cross routes by game to be front-tackled by a 300lb-guy?

Sure.
Randy in CT : 9/28/2016 9:38 am : link
Yes.
Shepard adjusted beautifully one one catch over the middle
regulator : 9/28/2016 9:39 am : link
caught the ball and did not take the punishment he would have if he kept his original body position. Still took a shot but it was more of a glancing blow than a head-on impact.

I'm OK with him working over the middle. The kid gets it.
It would probably be best
Rocky369 : 9/28/2016 9:40 am : link
to send a bigger body over the middle, with little to no chance of catching the ball.
Is football
superspynyg : 9/28/2016 9:41 am : link
Not basket weaving. Hard hits and crossing routes are part of the game. Now if he is getting hit in the head, that is different.
So the idea is then maybe to use

Beatty as a TE and have him run 3 yard outs?

Mid routes usually perfomed by a TE.

Well, if you think it should be the TE's...
okiegiant : 9/28/2016 9:47 am : link
You can have Tye wander across the middle with no clear idea of what he's doing, or Donnell who will probably knock the ball up for an int.

Even with the oline issues this offense could explode with a TE. Not even a great one...just a competent one...give me one like Boss.

The Giants will live and die with Beckham, Shepard and Cruz. They have to carry the load including doing the dirty work. There isn't another choice.
Only thing that concerns me about Shepard (and Cruz & Beckham)
Motley Two : 9/28/2016 9:52 am : link
is their head coach and his socialist play calling.
I know the feeling,

I had a risky paper route as a kid...

We're Jerry Rice and John Taylor TEs? Because those were their marching orders. Per Jerry Rice.

You don't know what you are talking about so stop it.
I'm hoping the play calling settles down after a few more games...

My god this is an awful post, even by your standards.
but Shepard isn't small

he's just short. Dude is built.

It's on Eli to not get Shepard killed.
It's football

I expect the coaches to put him into position that they feel best increases the chance of helping the team win games.

Worrying about the possibilities of injury and building game plans around that fear is a blueprint for failure.

Better yet, we can use Snacks since he was confident that he could get a yard in the run game if we needed it. I say make him earn his money by having him lumber across the middle for a 2 yard gain. The plus side is that after a dozen plays, the opponents secondary will be depleted by injuries and it will be safe for Shepard to run a few across the middle.
Seems that the opposition has

caught on to how to defend us . Two deep zone with
no threat of a consistent running game they play there
safeties back not allowing the deep ball so the middle
of the field is open and yep your bound to get clobbered
once in a while . Problem is we don't have a legitimate
TE on the team . It's a problem ..

They caught on how to defend us??

We have moved the ball fairly at will. I don't see much shutting us down after 3 games other than Giant turnovers/penalties. I would like slightly more chances given to OBJ even with a deep safety look but not enough to force it.
Shepard made his reputation in school ....
TC : 9/28/2016 9:25 pm : link
running those routes. And he's very smart & adept at avoiding needless punishment after a catch.
