Turnover differential in the spotlight...

Gmaniac1 : 9/28/2016 11:15 am
The Giants enter Week 4 with the worst turnover differential in football (-6).

Minny enters this match-up with the best turnover differential in football (+8).

Obviously, turnovers are a huge deal in the NFL. Obviously. But given the above ratios... this category kinda jumps to the forefront of attention this week.

and both a on the coaches. These are correctable things that good teams don't do.
both big problems
Giants86 : 9/28/2016 11:31 am : link
need to be fixed otherwise we are a 6-8 win team.
This will fall at the heels of Ben if not improved.
Need no turnovers Monday night against The Vikings.
I think it's more about shutting down the Minn offense

They have one very good WR an ok QB and almost nothing else. They don't run the ball well (last in the league in both yards and yards per carry) or really pass the ball well (28th in the league in yards). (And the FO advanced stats agree) We need to hold them to a very low score because their D is very good, rushes the passer, stops the run and is 3rd in scoring defense.
yah,

We are waaay overdue....

So the odds are in our favor to cause some turnovers.
I'm surprised at the amount of turnovers so far

I expected McAdoo to to have his growing pains but I thought his teams would be more disciplined so far.

Lets hope the numbers even out as the season wears on.

Doesn't work that way.

If you flip a coin and get heads 10 times in a row, your chances of landing heads again on the 11th flip is still 50-50
Sure, there's an element of good fortune when it comes to turnovers...
Gmaniac1 : 9/28/2016 12:15 pm : link
... but there's also causation, too.

So far this season, Minny has had a rip-roaring pass rush. The Giants... not near as much.

That's gonna directly translate into this discussion.

Both of those numbers will regress to the mean.
i just hope..

i just hope they don't turn super conservative due to the turnovers..

obviously they have to correct stuff, but its about getting the ball down the field successfully and holding onto the damn ball.

Clams, you are 100% correct re the point of the OP.

However, since this topic comes up so frequently (and I can't help pulling your chain ever so gently) I need to remind everyone that the principle you cited applies ONLY if the events are completely random.

However by the same token, if they ARE random (not a result of a specific cause, e.g. poor technique) then the Giants could just as well get "lucky" in their next 3 games and beat their previous mean.
If it weren't for the Peterson injury
Mike in Long Beach : 9/28/2016 1:55 pm : link
I think we'd get smoked this week. Now I think we have a game on our hands, but we have no chance if we don't protect the ball.
I know the DL will be coming for Eli,
Doomster : 9/28/2016 3:24 pm : link
but we have to attack this defense and put them on their heels....score and make Bradford play catch up...
Were the Definition of Conservative so far this year ..

I actually thought we would be more explosive yet were
far from it and when we run ..Even the North Koreans
know were gonna run ...
I can't think of any play this year that I haven't seen for
the last three years and to me the Opposition feels the
same way .. Now they Dare us to go deep because they
don't respect our run game ...
Unless we catch Minny napping early this one could get ugly

Peterson wasn't doing anything behind when he was healthy, and the strength of our D right now is run defense. If we get smoked, it'll be because their defense completely stifles our offense.
