I was never anti-Tebow, but thought he was overrated in the NFL as a QB.
Plus I didn't like his reluctance to change positions. It seemed like everyone who saw him saw h-back, wild cat QB, even a safety with his size and speed.

I hope he succeeds on the diamond.
I would love to see a link to where he refused to try another position.
I have read this repeatedly here (BBI) but I have never seen it documented anywhere else where a coach wanted him to play elsewhere, asked him, and he refused.

He just admitted it a couple of weeks ago when he was discussing playing baseball.
pretty easy to find. In his own words - ( New Window )
Thanks, I see that was from an interview conducted about two weeks ago about his switching to baseball.
I just don't remember him ever saying that during the time of his football career.
After reading it, I can't blame him if that's how he feels. He at least does things on his terms.
Quote:
“For me it’s always about pursuing what’s in your heart, what you love, what you’re passionate about, and I love the game of football but what I really love doing is playing the quarterback position,” Tebow said. “I’ve had a lot of good opportunities to play another position but that just wasn’t in my heart. It wasn’t something I wanted to do. If I was going to make a change I’d rather make a change to baseball.”
open up in Kingsport or Brooklyn unless he looks incredible at which case he will be in St. Lucie (really unlikely since I'm sure they will want to milk this golden goose).
Instructs get a lesser following than GCL games normally do. And to put that in perspective a typical little league game draws probably ten times the crowd a typical GCL game would get. And no, that's not an exaggeration.

I never said I blamed him. He could do whatever he wants, but he could have in all likelihood prolonged his NFL career as a TE or H-Back (or other). The QB or nothing stubbornness is totally his prerogative, but as an unbiased fan in my isolated world I kind of view players in general as being willing to do anything they can to stay on the field and stick around the league.
To his credit or condemnation, Tebow wasn't willing to do that.

I don't fault him for it. Hell, Brandon Jacobs was told to switch positions at Auburn, so he transferred to S. Illinois so he could play RB.
jacobs proved the doubters wrong with a 9 year successful NFL career.
but it was also a little bit different. Jacobs switched schools because they had Ronnie Brown and Cadillac Williams both already at RB. There just wasn't room for Jacobs.
He did play LB a little, but decided he could get RB play elsewhere. and he was right.
so what he didn't want to change positions, that's his choice and his right. If he only wanted to play QB and not TE/RB/whatever, that's absolutely his right. He either only enjoyed playing QB or didn't want to take a beating on ever down like non-QB's do, who am I to say that's wrong?
Annoying in every way. But him as a human being? He's a good dude. I've literally never seen him do or say anything bad, and he played a sport where a lot of people have done some pretty awful things of late.
I hope he winds up a fucking legend for the Mets, lol

Neither of those guys owe their doubters anything, and I'm sure you know that. Why would you play a game if it's not fun for you at a different position? Jacobs had his heart set on RB. Tebow's heart was set on playing qubes. Even if it didn't work out for Tebow, he could at least look back and not have any regrets about it.

I don't think it's selfish and I'm not saying it's wrong and maybe I'm just different in how I grew up and viewed sports. But when I day dreamed about playing professional sports I could not imagine being legitimately questionable (at best) at one position but being told by scouts and coaches I might be able to stay in the league (and excel) in a different role and deciding I'd rather not play the sport than switch positions.
I'm not saying it's selfish, I'm not saying Tebow is at fault, and I'm not saying he's wrong sticking to his principles, but I am saying TO ME it's surprising to see a professional athlete "give up" instead of doing anything in their power to continue playing the game they grew up loving.
I'm trying not to imagine Skip Bayless' boner over this video... Â
the funny thing is that he was ridiculed by so many and much of it had to do with the fact that he was a religious guy. In the end, he was always a good team mate, never an asshole and always worked hard. Not a good QB but he got more shit than all of the other shitty QBs.
Glad he had a good first day as a baseball player.
All of that said, I find it odd that he did not want to play another position on the football field because he insisted that he was a QB, but then made the leap over to baseball. I would have signed him as an H back for sure. Put some weight on him and our TE problems could be solved.
of a below average QB which annoyed people. Nobody gave a shit about his "beliefs" or how he expressed them.
And him only wanting to play QB wasn't him being selfish, but more of a lack of realization that if he really wanted to play football, he had a decent shot at playing a different position--TE for example. And teams were interested but he wasn't. End of story for me.
He ran a 4.72 at the combine at 6'3" 236. That's was too slow for a RB, DB or probably even a WILL. He's too small for a TE. Maybe an H-Back? Travis Beckum was bigger and ran a 4.61.
and the traveling circus probably cost him chances to continue his career, but people clearly gave a shit about his beliefs too. Not everyone, to be sure, but the disdain for Tebow far outpaced anything even his meager talents warranted.
Any truth to the report a bolt of lightning struck Â

Dallas Clark ran a 4.65, not noticeably different.
and he's similar size as Tebow, but slightly bigger.

The small TEs/H-Back types who succeed in the NFL are few and far between. It's possible but it's not like it was some kind of shoe-in like many seemed to think.

Agree, not a sure thing, but it had been suggested on multiple occasions. And my comments clearly were based on the impression I had in my mind of an athlete trying to hold on to a career. Like I assume most of us probably imagine.
Tebow probably had a lot more options than we know about from media to politics, to baseball, so it's not like he was desperate and had a football career or he'd be selling insurance the rest of his life (nttawwt).
but it was so annoying it was funny. But either way it wasn't his fault. He was doing positive things, and trying to make it in the NFL despite not having a good skillset to play QB at this level...him still winning games got people so mad that it was awesome.

His QB and running abilities would have to be considered too. I'd think anyone that had him would throw some wrinkles in with him, like Pryor is doing now.
RE: I keep hearing about all these masses of people Â
Like out in the wild? Read the comments section of any article about something he did, read social media, or read NFL message boards and you'll find tons of people who dislike him for a myriad of reasons. It isn't made up, people hated him like he was Pac Man Jones.

With no rm he's Imperfectly build for any position.
Tim Tebow is the real-life Shoeless Joe from ... Â
Maybe I'm in a naive minority, but I actually think Sandy was being truthful that he's intrigued by Tebow's potential and this isn't just a stunt to sell jerseys. I mean it's a zero risk situation.
Tebow at another position is a joke. He has limited AA and size for anything other than QB. And even if his lower tier AA somehow were good enough, he'd have to be able to tackle or catch, something he's probably never done.
At least he can swing a bat. Whether that's enough to make the incremental step up in the minors is a whole other hurdle.
Me too.
This.
Plus I didn't like his reluctance to change positions. It seemed like everyone who saw him saw h-back, wild cat QB, even a safety with his size and speed.

Best of luck to him. Prove all the haters wrong.
[quote] hope it pisses the people off who get pissed off by Tebow for no reason.
I never got people who wished ill will on him. But I also never got the people who thought he deserved it because of who he is or what he believed in.
when he is ready
Quote:
Think he gets an invite to spring training? It'll be a circus.
when he is ready
Does he really have to be ready though? Many players get invites that have no shot of making the opening roster.

I think most people who couldn't stand him didn't like the unrelenting ESPN coverage rather than his personal beliefs.
