hopefully the leadership has sufficient control over the rank and file to enforce this, but things had been trending in a mostly positive direction over the last couple decades.
and this (peace) is something I used to hear my family discuss and hope for when I was a kid. My mother moved back down there after spending 30 plus years in the states and she tells me it just has a different feel to it, people feel safe.

Just a reminder that, notwithstanding people's inclination to believe that current problems are always the worst, the world is in fact less dangerous than it has even been (nuke threat aside).
