Concerned about the next stretch of games?

USAF NYG Fan : 9/29/2016 7:39 am

I know it's early to look at stats but I couldn't help it. Redskins rush defense is ranked 24th. Saints is ranked dead last. I mention them as our measuring stick on what we have seen from our OL thus far.

As far as rush defense we are coming up against the Vikings (7th), Packers (1st), Ravens (8th), and Eagles after the bye (2nd). How about the pass rush. Vikings lead the league in sacks at 15. Then tied for 3rd in sacks are the Packers and Eagles at 10. Then, sure enough, the Ravens at 9.

In other words Giants are coming up against the toughest DLs in the game right now (sans Broncos) according to the stats after 3 games. Eli took a big shot against the Skins. I'm a little concerned at how they will handle these upcoming games. Anyone else?

Will we see more of Jones at FB or do they risk Hart/Beatty as an extra OLman? More Adams at TE to block? We know how Tye and Donnell are at blocking? How are Rainey, Darkwa, and Perkins at blocking really?

It will be interesting to see what they do ....

Not really. Each game is an entity unto itself.

Cousins was derided on here a lot and yet, since you cannot rely on past stats for a GIVEN game, played rather well on Sunday. I was disappointed, but far from surprised..Long time fandom kind of makes that clear (GRIN)..

Limit mistakes, we will be ok, albeit Apple and DRC probably being out and a lame Vernon and JPP is of concern to me..
Yep

I fear we lose the next two. Many years ago we were known as road warriors but I don't see it this year.

Giants have the better offense and have a reasonable chance Monday. I think the Packers game will be the more difficult game to win with them having a bye.
Concerned about every game.

Yes, I will be very happy if they aren't 2-3 after the Packer game

Lost 3 of 5 players in Nickel
MarvelousMike : 9/29/2016 9:06 am : link
When 3/5 of your base Nickel DB package is out, of course there is concern. We knew that the Giants had little depth across the board. Injures throughout this season will be a major factor in deciding games, IMO.
"More" Adams
lugnut : 9/29/2016 9:07 am : link
at TE to block? I didn't know we'd seen ANY Adams.

Seriously, I haven't heard one little squeak about this guy since we drafted him. I know it's early and he's young, but the utter silence given our situation is starting to be concerning.
I'm not scared of Baltimore
Steve L : 9/29/2016 9:15 am : link
They may be 3-0 but they haven't beaten anyone. Buffalo, Cleveland and Jacksonville.

I think we split Minnesota and GB. Then we beat Baltimore and the Rams. We're 5-2 going into the bye.

tough stretch coming up. 2 road night games against tough teams
Victor in CT : 9/29/2016 9:31 am : link
BAL will be tough too. Can't say they're easy because they "haven't beaten anybody". Who have the Giants beaten?
While I am concerned about
Gman11 : 9/29/2016 9:34 am : link
every game, if they can't beat any of the good teams then they certainly aren't a contender. The fact that they played 3 squeakers against three lousy defenses leaves me to think that this team is mediocre. An 8-8 record wouldn't be out of the question after beating up on the lesser teams.

However, if they can beat a couple of these teams then it might be an omen that they have what it takes to contend.
The Giants still look like a middling team
Overseer : 9/29/2016 9:46 am : link
they're likely still another year off from being able to put together a playoff team or even a winning record.

I'm expecting an ugly 2016 with more frustrating losses. Monday will be ugly.
I'm not overly pessimistic,
Mad Mike : 9/29/2016 10:01 am : link
but the Giants have 2 close victories and a loss, at home, to a bad Redskins team. Vereen and likely Jennings are out, DRC and Apple may be out. How could anyone not be concerned about any game for this team.
...
26.2 : 9/29/2016 10:02 am : link
Yeah, Monday nights game will be tough and I'm expecting a double digit loss. Too many turnovers and not enough scoring will lead to some bad losses.
So far, the Giants have been their own worst enemy
Simms11 : 9/29/2016 10:06 am : link
and have really beaten themselves. Yeah there's been a few plays here and there that the other team beat us with, but for the most part we've beaten ourselves with undisciplined play, penalties and turnovers. We have the horses to compete this year, we just need to play more physical, disciplined and, as McAdoo says, poised. Leadership goes a long way in these games too. Someone has to get the Oline and Dline cranked up to play and even moreso in the 4th quarter of these close games too. So far all three games have been extremely close and could have gone either way in the last few minutes.
Concerned about the team's bad habits
JonC : 9/29/2016 10:06 am : link
and ability to defeat itself going unresolved yet another season.

Definitely a more talented team, but not talented enough to overcome itself and its opponent on a weekly basis.
I'll be concerned
bignygfan : 9/29/2016 10:19 am : link
when we play the Eagles. Then I'll be hiding under my computer desk.

These games, not so much.
Yes...
Bluesbreaker : 9/29/2016 10:30 am : link
We can only hope that we catch the Vikings napping after
a big division win . Our offense needs to be mistake free.
I think the defense should be ok providing we don't give
the Vikings a short field via turnover or a big return
on special teams .
I don't fear the Packers in so much as we generally have
played them well and I feel talent wise were pretty
equal .
Same goes for the Ravens .. If the O-line holds up and
we cut down on penalties and turnovers . We could go
into the bye week 5-2 . That to me would be huge .
Could easily finish 10-6 .. but as things sit right now
we could end up 3-4 and end up at best 8-8 .
Oh, I'm shaking!!

This is why I've felt all along that though they have more talent, they wouldn't necessarily have a much better record. To many bad habits to break, too many new players needing to gel into a cohesive eunit

although the
Ravens seem to always give Eli fits . I realize Ray Lewis and Rex Ryan aren't there anymore but I haven't checked the stats but I think Eli has only beat them once !

I get your point but they lost to Dallas and GB in 2007 and then beat them both in the playoffs. Packers, San Fran, and Patriots in 2011. Could be a case of them getting their heads out of the backside towards the end. I wonder if their record will be good enough to make the playoffs though?
We will be 4-3 going into the Bye

We lose to Minn and GB but win the others.

You're a fool. They are 3-0. Buffalo just crushed a good Arizona team and Baltimore stifled their offense and despite the score abused their defense. Baltimore is also getting healthy as they started the season with many players injured...so you are a fool

I'll take a split these next two weeks

and the continuance of showing sloppiness and etc on offense quite possibly set them up for a tough stretch here in getting a W.
