is still a much surer way of putting yourself in a position to win. The top 7 pitching teams in baseball are in position to make the postseason, while 2, potentially 3 of the top 7 offenses will be watching the postseason from the couch. Putting all your eggs in a single basket is a bad idea, but a good and a deep rotation is as effective now as it was twenty years ago.
The Yanks have a few guys with front-end upside, but they're also accumulating a number of MLB-caliber starters within reach of the pros. Some will fizzle, some will get hurt but at the end of the day it's safer than relying on your ability to sign or trade for such guys.

...is too long a season for starting pitchers. Even if the guy has a great season, there is a good chance that by the time you make it to the World Series in late October, the wear and tear and cold weather will render him not the same pitcher you saw in July and August.
RE: 162 games and then another month of playoffs...

indeed, they should go with a 7 man rotation to divide up the amount of games.
to 75 pitches or 5 innings both to increase effectiveness and hopefully avoid injury. Why allow should the Yankees allow a starter to go through the lineup three times when building a superior pen is much cheaper then buying three 30 million a years starters for to many years.

With the way Severino was pitching and the way Warren pitches. I've been wondering if teams would ever consider having a couple long starters like CC and Tanaka and then having days where you have a couple long relief guys who both go 3-5 innings a piece.
Pineda certainly would benefit from pitching 4-5 innings a piece. Joe's done that the last month and he only has a few earned runs in the whole month. I think he only has 1 decision in 5 starts too.
