is one tough rookie. He took that hit and got right up talking trash. From Marc Ross - "He is very tough. He’ll go inside with no fear, catch the ball, take the hit, make guys miss and keep going."

He wasn't the WR I wanted to get in the draft ... but he's already won me over 100 % ...
RE: What about him picking up OBJ and throwing him to the turf... Â
The ref didnt throw the flag, but is the league fine with that behavior.
Are you talking about last year? He did throw him down last year and should have been called for it then. Last Sunday he dropped him at best. He didn't throw him down.
My question is if both Eli and Norman were told if you do "anything" we are throwing you out, why wasn't Norman ejected after the personal foul on SS?
That kind of hit has been illegal for years now. No attempt at a tackle. Targeted the hit to the head. Clearly tried to power through him as you can tell by the body language after the initial hit. Didn't even try to go around the waist. That's textbook defenseless receiver.

I have to agree. He didn't lead with his helmet but his shoulder and in fact if Shepard doesn't lower his head in anticipation of the hit I doubt his shoulders get the head at all. It was a hard hit for sure but I don't think it was dirty.
I don't believe they gave him that kind of fine. For some guys that's almost an entire paycheck. That hit wasn't bad at all. Didn't even deserve a penalty.
CTE is not some make believe thing. The league had to adapt or face even more lawsuits. Let's not forget that IT IS actually causing permanent damage.
The hit was most assuredly deserving of a flag and a fine. If we was warned by the officials that they would not tolerate anything like this, Norman should have been ejected.
Linked the rule and here's the applicable language;
a. Players in a defenseless posture are:
2. A receiver attempting to catch a pass who has not had time to clearly become a runner. If the player is capable of avoiding or warding off the impending contact of an opponent, he is no longer a defenseless player
b. Prohibited contact against a player who is in a defenseless posture is:
1. forcibly hitting the defenseless player’s head or neck area with the helmet, facemask, forearm, or shoulder, even if the initial contact is lower than the player’s neck, and regardless of whether the defensive player also uses his arms to tackle the defenseless player by encircling or grasping him
Note 2: A player who initiates contact against a defenseless opponent is responsible for avoiding an illegal act. This includes illegal contact that may occur during the process of attempting to dislodge the ball from an opponent. A standard of strict liability applies for any contact against a defenseless opponent, even if the opponent is an airborne player who is returning to the ground or whose body position is otherwise in motion, and irrespective of any acts by the defenseless opponent, such as ducking his head or curling up his body in anticipation of contact.
Penalty: For unnecessary roughness: Loss of 15 yards and an automatic first down. The player may be disqualified if the action is judged by the official(s) to be flagrant.
As I said, textbook. There really is nothing to dispute. Also, yes, Norman was aggressively jumping into the hit. His body doesn't move in an upward direction on that hit unless he intentionally jumps up into the receiver. Norman's body launched up, not horizontal. His intent was very clear to me. Zero effort to make the tackle. Zero attempt to dislodge the ball unless it was through knocking SS unconscious. Incidentally what the rule was created to prevent.
won the game. Again. And this league is on an irreversible course toward flag football. And to think it started with a Giant: Kenny Phillios and his "tackling too hard" PI against the Eagles. Furthermore, all reception statistics should be curved to reflect the "no contact' nature of plays over the middle. CFL-80s, fellas.

and Norman talked shit to Shep too, there should also have been unsportsmanlike conduct as well

Huh? It was called on the field. There was a 15 yard penalty called on Norman

my bad, I forgot that it was called on the field
lol
Not anymore. Clotheslines are illegal.
I'm not advocating for that to be a penalty but wouldnt that be the definition of taunting?

The refs were in the tank for the epithets and I think they were looking for an excuse to eject Giants like Richburg.
And please dont tell me its because OBJ fake jumped & Norman actually though he had the ball. They have to be dumb & blind to think that.

I don't get it

Not much to get. They don't want that hit in the game anymore. Doesn't matter that it was legal 5 years ago.

I was thinking the same thing ... maybe it was high?
I am surprised he got a flag and a fine for that.

Agree.
